DeBarge consisted of Bunny, Randy, Mark, and El. James later joined the group when the album titled "All This Love" was released. When El and Bunny left the group to pursue solo careers, Bobby joined the group, when the "Bad Boys" album released in 1987. The group disbanded when Chico and Bobby got jailed on drug charges.

The Diane Warren-penned song was written for Berry Gordy's motion picture, "The Last Dragon," which starred Vanity.
