Bumper to bumper traffic needs cvt and tork converter . In heavy city traffic don't use dct car. But if you drive more on highways then definitely choose DCT. To maintain cvt and torc converter is cheaper than DCT.

Great comparison, very informative....especially for ppl like us who are used to MTs. I have driven an AMT (Celerio) and hated the jerks it gives. Also driven a TC (Harrier). Yet to drive a CVT or a DSG. Have read about many DSG issues (in Vento TDI) like Mechatronic failure and they are quite expensive to repair. CVT may not be my type as an enthusiast, so TC maybe my type!

My Skoda rapid AT IS best value for mileage n performance, shifts like smooth as DSG n have long life than Dsg, city 10kmph , highway 14.6 kmph , it's an enthusiastic car go for it if u need performance put in sports u can even beat manual if u drive properly

I would prefer AMT, easy on pocket and lesser maintenance. Recently launched AMTs are very well tuned with minimal of jerks of your are not harsh on acceletor.

The final verdict matches my new car preference. The tossup was between Kia Carens DCT or Maruti Suzuki XL6 Torque Converter. I will most likely go for the XL6, as need to drive in city start stop traffic on narrow arterial roads, often at speeds of 0-10 kmph.

I will choose iMT out of all as gear shift is very smooth in kia/hyundai. You also don't struggle with clutch in traffic as it is clutch less. it is also pocket friendly therefore it just best in all respects..

Bhai clutch to kisi automatic me nhi hota!😂 Aur bhai imt introduce hua tha to cater to those customers jinko manual ki feel chahiye thi. But in my opinion, imt can also not provide that manual feel, coz main thing in manual is clutch!! If u have removed clutch, then how can it provide that manual feel!!

I am planning to buy fortuner 4x4 diesel but i am confused should i go for manual transmission or go for automatic one? I have not much knowledge about the cars and mechanics of the engine you seems to have very experience in car so pls suggest me which is best automatic 4x4 or manual 4x4 or it just the same ??? You must have drove 4x4 automatic and manual both you must be knowing which is best which has more power and which can do more extreme off roading Pls suggest waiting for your reply.

Selecting between the transmission would depend on your usability. If you drive more in the city traffic then suggest you go for the automatic transmission whereas if you drive more on highways then suggest you to go for the manual transmission. With the manual transmission, you will get more mileage whereas an automatic transmission, will give you more ease to drive. Before making any final decision, we would suggest you take a test drive of both the transmission vehicles to understand the power and comfort better.

I think this is the best explanation I have seen on automatic transmissions , but please explain further what happens to CVT/DCT/TC when coupled with turbo engine. Does CVT turbo engines give that extra performance edge that we are missing?

55 years old male, looking for an automatic trasmission mainly to avoid the way left leg and arm gets fatigued while driving in chaotic Delhi traffic, driving confined usually within Delhi about 40-50 kms a day. Which transmission do you recommend? Somehow I think CVT may be the best. NOTE despite driving exp of almost 25 years I am still not a very good driver, do a lot of clutch driving: -)

DCT reliability is a issue.. Ford had once introduced DCT in a hot country like India.. Within 6 months they recalled all of them... Otherwise DCT is the best. Torque converter will give less mileage as they tend to shift gear at a higher RPM.. Give paddle shifters, issues will be resolved.. CVT is very good...With paddle shifter it is the best. .Not best in pickup due to rubberband effect.. AMT is jerky so not that comfortable.. For the people who are enthusiast but are lazy for them iMT is suited... But for me MT is always the best...

@@karthikbalan9279 Max speed I've touched is 130 kmph and the car was quite stable. Haven't been much to mountains though but have been little bit, the car is quite wonderful and infact was fun to drive on swirling roads on sports mode. If you are a driving enthusiast, GTX AT is the best you can buy at this price point.

S cross AMT what's your opinion about its Performance

There is no AMT available in Maruti S-cross. It is only available in AT. Moreover, the strength of this engine is its refinement and ability to pick up speeds in a linear manner. It even sounds just the way a petrol engine should: smooth and refined. Until you reach 3000rpm, you can barely hear it inside the cabin. Vibrations too are kept well under control and this motor is as smooth as you’d want your daily driver petrol to be. Brakes of the S-Cross are impressive in the city and offer a good bite and feel from the paddle. Another big strength of this engine is its ability to pick up speeds from a low rpm. When you go for a smooth overtake, the engine with its 138Nm of torque and mild electric assist lets you surf that wave and make for swift acceleration. While this engine is relatively new, this transmission has been around for ages. That is one of the major reasons why the S-Cross’s drive lacks excitement. Summing up the S-Cross is simple. It’s a good looking car, with great practicality, available at a price which does make it bang for the buck. This is a great video. However, 2 years on, a lot has changed in the market. The unlucky DCTs are back in the game and they have a presence in every segment now - The 1.0L dct (korean), 1.5 TG DI DCT (korean), 1.5 TSI DSG (VAG), the 1.3/ 1.5 dct from the Benz A class and the 1.5 DCT from BMW in the X1. This is in addition to the 2.0 TSI DSG that does duty in a variety of VW, Skoda and Audi cars. Even sports cars use a dual clutch (Porsche PDK) It would be great to see a DCT reliability video in 2023 - are they still 'fundamentally flawed' or are they the future?

I have driven , torque converter, dct , CVT and AMT. I loved torque and dct. But to be Frank i was surprised with the smoothness on Hyundai nios AMT, it's quite good. But yes for overtaking u have to be well prepared

Absolutely very simple and effective comparison video thushar and arun keep up the good work....my city to highway usage ratio is 90 :10 and ofcourse i look for enthusiastic quick overtakes so, It should be a TC as per your review...i will TD one soon but the question is for switchover to manual control i have seen DCT offered with convinient paddle shifters, does TC vehicles come with paddler shifters. Can you also comment on tata latest wet clutch dca is it superiour in performance than kia hyundai DCT and reliable than skoda volkawageb DSG

Given a choice, I would pick iMT over a TC for city driving as it gives the perfect balance between engaged and convenient driving styles. However, when you go to the car market, you, unfortunately, can't yet assemble your own car like we used to assemble PCs. I have to pick between the entire car packages on offer. As of now, only Hyundai/Kia cars come with an iMT and we know these brands have questionable safety, whereas I, unfortunately, cannot buy a Skoda or a Tata with an iMT gearbox, I wonder why?! Till then whatever you prefer (cost vs safety) more will take precedence over the car you ultimately purchase.

@@chars_78 So what? Both are mutually exclusive. EVs are an even better use case, you should be able to modify the battery and motor based on what you need.

Can anyone clear this doubt - Since DCT have quick shifts and they hardly let the engine rev at higer speeds while driving normally(not being aggressive at the peddal) so shouldn't it be better at milage than the manual, excluding the weight of the Gear box? I am currently using a DCT and it shifts into higer gear at 1900-2000 RPM , I am mostly averaging at 1500-1600 RPM. So is it equal to manual?

Would like to know whether Kia has any future plans of introducing an automatic IVT transmission in any of their Sonet variants like HTK, HTK+ or HTX or HTX+? like they have in Seltos HTX. DCT also has a very costly maintenance. Just highlighting! Kia seltos DCT replacement, which a lot of people faced in earlier generations, required 4-5Lakhs bucks!

AMT gearbox offers you a choice of shifting to the manual whenever you feel lag of power. The Automatic-Manual Transmission could be a good choice for hilly areas as well.

Been driving honda cvt since 2010 and love it, like you mentioned, have to be a smooth driver n not aggressive to fully maximise the efficiency n driving satisfaction.

You forgot to add information about hill hold performance and rollback on inclines. Can you please suggest which transmission has the best hill hold. I am currently using venue 1l turbo dct. Super happy. Only complaint is transmission heating in chocoblock traffic

The CVT remains the most fuel efficient of the lot due to its use of belts and pulleys instead of gears, which leads to optimum torque. This is useful in stop and go situations during traffic.

Hi Cardekho team, Really helpful video. I am planning to buy a subcompact SUV soon (preferably Magnite or Kiger) and have a question about CVT transmission. 1. Is it expensive to maintain? 2. Would it last 100,000 KM run or 9-10 years. I have heard CVT transmission repair or replacement is very expensive and may cost 3-4 lacs.

one constructive criticism I have on this is that they compared a pretty good iMT(Sonet) with a terrible AMT ( Triber). Could have compared it with something of the same price point.
