Part 2 in the series of the Hot Rod Reverend removing a stock camshaft, lifters, and timing set and installing an Isky E4 cam, NOS lifters, and an adjustable Rollmaster Timing Chain and Gears. The engine is a 292 Ford Y Block, and the car is a 1955 Ford Fairlane Club Sedan.

Thank you for your video! Very helpful. Your advise to my son Jon last week on his Holley 4000 was perfect! He has his '55 Merc running great! Thank you!

Just ran across your site a few weeks ago. I have to say THANK YOU. I currently have 1956 Fairlane with a 272 ci motor with 3-speed manual overdrive. Am currently rebuilding a 312 ci engine for the car. Your videos have been so helpful. My first car was a 1956 Customline with a 292 ci engine and 3-speed manual trans. That was 57 years ago. I am loving working on the car and engine, but your knowledge and videos have been so helpful, especially on the oil pump removal and reinstallation. I learned so much way back then, but as time goes by so do a lot of learned things, again THANK YOU. By the way, my car is the same color scheme as yours, beautiful.

Glad to hear it - I am still learning quite a bit myself as I move along here. Hopefully my camshaft break-in video will be up within a couple of weeks!

Very tedious job, may not want to do this for a living so keep your day job. Just a thought but if you had a magnet like you are using below and the sizing was right could you come in from the top though the lifter bore and pull the lifter straight up from the bottom. Easy for me to say sitting here watching you in my easy chair. You got it done thanks for all your time and effort on this project. Jonny D.

Honored to have you stop by! My buddy and I had a good time, believe it or not. Obviously, I have always pulled the engine, set it on a stand, flipped it upside down, and away we went. Some of this was just to see how this tool was used and to see how difficult it really was to pull this off. A lot of Tbird owners like this tool - according to our friend Ted Eaton.

I'm enjoying your videos. One thing I noticed is something I messed up as well... your audio is only on mono... your music is on the left channel and your voice is on the right. it sound weird with headphones... and if you listen with just one headphone... you only get half the content. You might not notice if you're editing on a laptop. Happy motoring!

Daniel, Why don't you eliminate the oil return tubes off the rocker shafts? It's an easy mod to pressurize the rocker shafts.

Look in my playlist… I put together a set of Barker NORS performance rocker arms and did this exact thing using Tim McMaster’s method.

I've heard about cam swapping a Y-Block. As a Ford product owner for a minute, was this the prelude to the modern day pain that is Ford engineering? Why did they make a cam swap so challenging?
@HotRodReverend

They followed much of the engineering used already in the Ford tractors. Most are not aware that both the Y Block and the 50's Ford tractor engines share the SAME tappets/lifters. Bear in mind too that this was Ford's first foray into the overhead valve market. For the bean counters, it is much cheaper to manufacture a solid lifter/tappet as opposed to the hydraulic lifter that the Lincoln variant used. Obviously, with the FE series in 1958 these mushroom style, solid tappet jobs went away.

@Hot Rod Reverend the advantage of a mushroom tappet cam are well known. Guess the sacrifices you have to make for serviceability

You can find that here, iskycams.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=407 the E4 has been around a long time. Probably the mildest cam you can put in your Y Block and still retain the stick valve springs.
