I remember in 1965, this Pannai had a fish market at the entrance of the round about,and police quarters close by. My father in police service, I used to catch the horses from the Dutch fort. and ride, I was a small kid. the fort was filled up with prisoners,the area allway smell with rotten fish, sea weed, and the prisoners brought all shit(kakus) from the prison and dump in the sea .also, the town kakus were brought and thrown near the side entrance. Inside the fort, I saw lot of buildings, including Remands,jails., There was a huge dutch church all in one piece, and also iron balls. canons,I saw Tamil writing on the stone floor of the church saying pathiri ponjathi, I use to break fort stones with an iron rod and throw them in the water in anger because Portuguese people built this with Tamil slavery.
