Yıldız Palace, built on a high land overlooking the Bosphorus and the Marmara Sea, is the last large palace built by the Ottoman Empire in Istanbul. In the context of the general layout plan, it continues the tradition of Turkish-Islamic palace architecture with the concept of "Palace in the East (State Administration and Harem) - Cuma Mosque (Yıldız Hamidiye Mosque) in the West". Yıldız Palace, which has an area of 500,000 m2, consists of 3 large parts. The first is the main palace where the structures related to the state administration are located, the second is the private section belonging to the Sultan himself and his harem, and the third section consists of the outer garden and surrounding structures. The place called the outer garden is today's Yıldız Park. This large park, which was exclusive to the palace during the reign, is open to the public today. From this part, where many mansions and buildings were located in the period, only the Çadır, Malta and Şale mansions have survived to the present day.
The first mansion in the Yıldız Palace area was built by Sultan III. It was built during the reign of Selim (1789-1807). Although subsequent sultans showed interest in the groves and gardens in the region, the name of Yıldız Palace was given to Sultan II. He is identified with Abdulhamid (1876-1909). The Sultan named the region "Yıldız Palace-ı Hümâyûnu" and designated this place as his primary residence and ruled the country from this palace for 33 years. Yıldız Palace, spread over a very large area between Beşiktaş and Ortaköy; It is a group of mansions with different functions than the other palaces of Istanbul, with its gardens, pools, trees, greenhouses and pavilions. In addition to workshops such as theatre, museum, library, pharmacy, zoo, animal hospital, carpenter's shop and forge, it also has industrial facilities such as the tile factory in Yıldız. Sultan II, who also had buildings built. Abdulhamid, the famous II. He also placed his division (Orhaniye and Ertuğrul barracks) near the palace. It is thought that during this period, the palace had a population of up to 12,000, including those who provided direct or indirect services. Yıldız Palace went down in history as the last administrative center of the Ottoman Empire and the last residence of the sultan.
