Two members cut diagonally at 45 degrees are joined with two butterfly-shaped wooden plugs.
The diagonally driven plug tapers in both width and thickness.
As a design, I think it's good to be eccentric.
However, it was surprisingly difficult to make by hand processing.

What wood are you using, is it cedar? It slices so clean and with minimal tearout.
