The way you talked about there is no one best school zone to move to is super refreshing and fair! I lived here for close to 20 years, every area has good schools and good housing, but equally there are bad school and bad council housing! There is no one perfect place to settle in!

But there are some areas which are unsuitable in terms of housing and schools eg Brixton, Hackney, Slough. The types of people living in social housing in the UK is completely different to that of HK. The socio economic structure of the HK families living in social housing tend to be from good backgrounds and have normal jobs.On the other hand, the majority of the residents living in social housing in the UK tend to be from broken homes, single parent families and usually on benefits. Drugs and alcohol also play a big part in the way they live.

@@jl2405 I am sorry but I think you are confused. You missed my point. I was just really happy that 老徐 was trying to bust the myth of these absolute great fantastic areas. 老徐 was right about no one magic area nor one all bad area. In UK, most areas have a bit of everything in them. It's just the balance of them are different. So there are berrer or worse areas. In fact, Brixton, Hackney and Slough might have been rough a decade or two ago. But they have been improved dramatically and are well sought after areas now. Particularly Hackney, it's now almost unaffordable for average income households to buy. Also, I exactly said what you mentioned about council housing. I didn't say they are a positive thing. I said every single area in UK has them. It's a requirement to have social housing, it's just the numbers of them and the quality of them.

Jennifer Kwok I guess what I am trying to say is areas like Brixton, Slough, Hackney, Peckham, Croydon, Woolwich, Clapham, Lewisham, Tottenham, Slough, Vauxhall have a high proportion of ethic minorities and not a very balanced mix of the population. It’s impossible to avoid an area with no social housing but the background of the people living there are completely different to those of HK. With a housing crisis in the UK, the UK government has stipulated that developers of new builds must allocate 25% of its stock to social housing tenants or into shared ownership schemes.
They replied with some standard procedures without looking into the real issues. It's one of negatives dealing with the home office.

The problem you encountered is not unique in UK. It is the same in Canada. We can only say that we HongKongers are extraordinary efficient and organized.

Just to make a fair comment, the UK departments aren't being particularly slow with you. After all, all these happened in covid time, everyone in uk is suffering and you guys aren't alone. And there is benefit to this pace of life. Also, just for your reference, UK is already one of the hardest working places in the whole Europe!

There are a lot of EU workers especially Polish and Romanians ones living in the UK and do jobs that natives do not want to do eg construction, picking fruit, cleaning, delivery drivers, uber drivers. To this day, I have never met a local native Uber driver. I don’t think they exist. The British are not exactly known to be hard working.

This is how the gueilos work. In US it is even worse, u r never able to reveive appropiate help. All replies r unhelpful. The gover nment websites r all fucked up. If u call be prepared to wait for at leasr 1/2 hour. Hongkongers must exercise our utmost patience when dealing with gov agencies.
