Be careful of catalytic converter thefts. Toyota yaris old 2nd hand cars are top of the list for catalytic converter thefts. I would return the car to the dealers. If you want to buy a 2nd hand car with more security, try online carzoo, clinch, cazam or car dealerships.

Personally would have taken it to Toyota dealer and they would have found out what is the problem, may just needed a ECU update. If part exchange this car don't need to tell the dealer-if they don't check properly it's their responsibility.

If the insurance is too expensive for international driving licence, he could try adding additional driver who has UK license and with NCB. This may bring down the insurance.

It doesn’t matter what make the car is, if the previous owner didn’t look after/maintain the car.
Most garages should get your approval before the repair starts. I believe the garage your friend used was not national brand, e.g. kwik-fit, AA, etc. I will not use independent ones unless they are recommended by other you know.
@90sangaaijaiinUK3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the garage my friend went was not big company🥲🥲because when the problem came, they can only go to the nearest garage where they bought the car in Manchester
@k17sher3 жыл бұрын
You don’t have to tell the dealer the problem when you trade in the car. They know all the risks of old bangers. For about £5-£6k, you could have an approved used car from Toyota dealer with 12-month warranty.
@rickidango89693 жыл бұрын
Agreed with the above regarding part exchange but unfortunately the prices of used car has gone up. £5-6k wouldn't get you an Automatic at Toyota!
@k17sher3 жыл бұрын
@@rickidango8969 True. I was looking for an automatic one for my dad in October 2020. I did find a few automatic Toyota for £5-6k at dealers at that time.

This is why I told my dad to buy a 2010 VW Passat manual last year. He only drives the car a few months a year in the UK. Old cars with auto box are gone or expensive to fix, if the automatic is broken.
@90sangaaijaiinUK3 жыл бұрын
Yes, we know that automatic box can be trouble and expensive to fix now🥲🥲😭
Because Japanese cars tenda to be more reliable than European cars if you look at all the car surveys. If this was a European car, this problem probably happened when it is 5/6 yrs old!
If price is overly low means there’s some problems. Don’t be attracted by low price, auto trader price guide is good indication. Auto gearbox at 90k miles are prone to fail too , I would avoid too old if auto. For older cars best to get from dealer with at least a few months to a year warranty in case of issues . Going private is only recommended unless you know what you’re doing about that car.
@@90sangaaijaiinUK You don't even know if the seller is the owner of the car. I think your friend does not know much about vars. Just because the car cannot crank and change the battery is foolish. It could be the alternator that have failed and not charging the battery.
@stevey883 жыл бұрын
You should jump start the car and measure the voltage between the battery terminals to see if the alternator is charging the battery. The voltage should be over 13V when the engine is running. A fully charged battery on its own is 12.8V.
