I have watched this movie so far 10 times already. (An American KZbin commentator told me he had watched it over 30 times.) Every time I watch it, I cry. But in the last few times, I cried when I was watching the two middle-aged guys and their interaction, probably because I am closer to their age. A lot of guys in our age have a similar story to tell. I am not an exception.
Hello from Los Angeles! Loved this explainer video! Thank you for including captions so it can be translated into English. It's very hard to find critical analysis or in-depth discussion in English of this beautiful and ambitious film since most of the English speaking world just thinks of it as a gay romantic movie. However, as you’ve alluded, I think it's a brilliantly nuanced film filled with many references to Asian cinema and portrays a modern tale of star crossed lovers using universal motifs of true love, eternal recurrence/repetition and duality. I think one aspect of the film that I don't see discussed (at least in English), is that it’s a very meta film. It references not only "Birdy," but has dozens and dozens of references to almost all of Wong Kar-wai's works such as "In the Mood for Love," "Chungking Express," "Fallen Angels," and "Happy Together." It's this dual aspect of being both a traditional emotional drama and a modern referential film that makes this film so poignant, heartwarming and satisfying to watch. It’s genius! Thank you for all your work!

How do you feel about the movie now in June of 2022 after a year or so?
Is it possible for you to add English subtitles for the video? I love this movie and I would love to hear your thoughts on it but my Chinese isn’t very fluent. Thanks!
