I came to America from Hong Kong when I was 8 years old. I am now over 60. I am completely Americanized and find it hard to speak Chinese. But I so much enjoy and appreciate the artistry of Chinese love songs. So much more than American pop. The Shepherd of Kokotohai truly touched me. I have written an English rendition that I think closely reflect the essence of the original. I am poor with singing and video production so this is as far as I can take it. I would be thrilled if someone would take the time and produce a video with these lyrics. Joe Leo Shepherd of Kokotohai That fateful night I could not keep you by my side. The wind and rain Embraced me as I cried. I wake in the echos of camel bells in your journeys this way before. I'm now alone with no tears to cry anymore. The thousand drinks can't drown my pain away. Your phantom songs haunt me every night and day. I would scale the snow caps and cross the Gobi with ease if you're next to me. My dreams all shattered, my heart is cold, when you left so secretly. Oh my love, "Kokotohai" is where you'll find me. I was told, that you're married in "Yi Li". Is it true the enchantment of the "Nalati" has stolen your heart from me? Has the flower's sweetest honey erased you in my destiny? In the fields, I can hear the the cam' bells ringing But you're not there, How I long to see you again. There's no one who can sing your songs that touch me so tenderly. And there is no one who can ever replace the you in my memories.

Yang Zai, simply the BEST. There are many good songs, but very few, which would make you cry from deep within, when Yang Zai sings. Even within his first line. Whereas the other two singers did not move me at all.
