I was a one eyed Toyota fan for 42 years, owned 9 various models the last one was a 2009 200 series. When I went to update it for a new 200 it was too expensive and lacked value for money compared to the Patrol. Got my new 2020 Patrol 2 months ago and it's the best vehicle I have ever owned and is an absolute bargain. I wasn't that surprised with the fuel economy figures as my average was 16l/100 for the 200 and I am currently getting 13l/100 in my Y62 Patrol.

i'll tell you... iv test driven both cars... and there is absolutely no comparison in terms of driving experience... the noise isolation inside the cabin in the patrol is almost luxury sedan level... the suspension is amazing for this type of car.. you basically feel it gliding on the road...the luxury features and safety options on the 2020 model are top class....and on top of that the car feels more nimble and agile to drive... i get people who love the land cruiser because of its perceived reliability and ruggedness especially in rocky or rough terrains...but those are old perceptions...the patrol can do anything the land does and then some... needless to say I went with the patrol

How many people got caught out buying the Patrols with the 4cylinder “hand grenade” engines? Most said “never again”. The old 4.2 6 cylinder Nissan Patrol turbo diesels were a Nissan truck engine & driveline & they were what gave Nissan the snowballs chance in hell of competing with 100 series Landcruiser 4.2 turbo diesels. Nissan’s change to the 4cylinder hand Grenade engines just lost them basically their entire Nissan following. It would take a miracle for this new Nissan to wrest back that lost market share now I think. Me, I’ll stick with my F250 7.3 for now, Coz it will pull all 3 of these vehicles backwards through their own exhaust pipes! Heck my wheel nuts take more torque than all 3 of these engines combined can make! 😜😜😂😂👍🇦🇺

Still will not out do Dodge RAM utes or most utes for that matter, as this is Australia, we invented to ute, and Aussies love their utes... as for me, I want a ute, but it will need an extra row of seats (triple cab), other people as well, so they buy a land cruiser or patrol. My 2017 VX landcruiser has to drive at 106 kph to match 100 kph on the GPS. I presume that it follows that for every 106 km on the odo you have only done 100 km. For accuracy, this should be accounted for when calculating l/100km surely?
@johncanalese5882 жыл бұрын
OK, this is not a scientific test but as Nick said, the test loop was measured at 108km (presumably GPS measured), and all three vehicles covered the same course. They didn't need to use the Speedometer nor the Odometer of each vehicle for the L/100km calculations, so any errors there are irrelevant. The only error perhaps is if the tanks didn't properly fill "back up to the brim" due to vapour lock etc. So it is OK for a comparative assessment of the fuel consumption and probably acceptable for absolute consumption as well.

What this proves is that petrol technology is bridging the gap and that the 200 diesel is a old tech motor. Do you have issues mechanically so far in Ford?
@Mambey5 жыл бұрын
I had a thought. My mate has a 2017 patrol and it never fills up first go apparently there is is a smaller tank that the fuel is slow to get into( equalise). Should go back a bit later and fill it again. Maybe it wasn't full. But I am more convinced that petrol simplicity is better . No turbo, ad blue etc...love the video.

Thanks Owen, we took the time to ensure it was completely filled each time properly.

What fuel do you run. 91, 95 or 98 in the Nissan?

I had a series 2 Y62 Patrol, my family of 6 did a lap around OZ including the cape, towed a Jayco Expanda 21.64.1 (full height van) 3.2 t loaded. Mods were: Pacemaker Headers, 3inch King Brown stainless exhaust, UNI CHIP DYNO TUNED, Bull bar, winch.. 27 litres per hundred so much room in the Patrol even had the Engel in the boot !! Best car I ever owned..
@ACCOD5 жыл бұрын
I've been thinking of changing my exhaust basically since l bought my y62 s4 . But I'm concerned about cabin noise when towing. Did it make any difference to power or fuel economy?
@Mrmichaelblake19785 жыл бұрын
@@ACCOD the noise wasn't too bad in the cabin at all, power wise it made a bit of a difference especially after it was re tuned I had a unichip put on it in Cairns and it wasn't until Darwin when I did all the exhaust upgrades but all in all made a huge difference in power over all. There is a Patrol Y62 page on Facebook such is awesome for ideas and upgrades.

Wow that's awesome results didn't expect the patrol to win!!
@jjwoody65325 жыл бұрын
Well well, that result has puffed out my chest as a new S5 Patrol owner. Another reason why the Patrol could be lighter than the LC is the weight of both engines. I would guess the diesel is a fair bit heavier than the petrol. Loving ours.
@Mrmichaelblake19785 жыл бұрын
Wonder of they measure the weight with fuel full, as the land cruiser has the bigger tank, unless the series 5 patrol have a bigger tank in them now I had the series 2
@peterabigail19884 жыл бұрын
Really interesting work, thanks, may I suggest a bit more emphasis on the bottom $ Line $, that's what drives (no pun intended) most people. The very end of the clip where it showed a close up of the fuel bills is whats important. Take into account purchase, running, service, repair, accessory and resale costs and the big picture is revealed.

Great vid again and probably a little surprising to 200 owners. I look forward to some more tow comparisons on differing terrain.

I got series 1 y62 and love it but 1300nm of torque in the ford WOW. The gearbox in the ford probably weighs more than the van!
@muddymaker37215 жыл бұрын
The Toyota Landcruiser 200 is detuned from factory by quite a bit, it is tuned for the current drive train/comfort/economy. The power output of this twin turbo V8 Diesel engine can theoretically produce a lot more.

@MeMurphy10Feb5 жыл бұрын
Ok those are truly remarkable consumption figures for the Patrol. Other recent tests which have no added tow weight but did involve some offload low range were between 22l and 24l per 100K for the Patrol. On the one test where the 200 series was compared directly the Patrol did 24L and the 200 Series did 18.6l/100K. Maybe the constant throttle towing and then the no throttle descent highlighted the differences in the petrol vs diesel "debate" but yes very surprising for the Patrol. I am a Discovery 4 guy so don't have a vested interest :)

I've got a s5 Patrol towing 3.3 ton van and get 16.9 l/ 100km. Also spoken to a few other Y62 owners who have had 200 series in the past They have said that the Y62 is a far better tow vehicle and would never go back to Toyota as a tow vehicle
