¹ In Islamic belief, the Israa' and Mi'raj refer to the two stages of the miraculous night journey undertaken by the Prophet Muhammad: first from Mecca to Jerusalem, and then from Jerusalem (specifically the Dome of the Rock) to the heavens
² The Temple Mount, referred to by both Muslim and Christian Palestinians as Bayt al-Maqdis ("the Holy House"), is the area on which Masjid al-Aqsa and the Dome of the Rock are built, and where the Temples of Solomon are alleged to have stood
-----
This week I was originally going to translate and upload an old album of beautiful dhikrs from the Shadhili Hamidi Sufi order (the Egyptian branch of the Shadhili Sufi order), but in light of recent events in Palestine and Israel's latest atrocities against the Palestinian people, I decided to delay those and instead upload this rare music video of one of Fairuz's best songs.
Fairuz is probably the most famous and most loved singer alive in the Arab world today, and like the rest of the people in this video she is a Lebanese Christian. The music video is from 1967, when it was produced and shown as part of the 1967 Cedars International Festival in Lebanon.
As well as being the best song about Palestine I've ever heard, Zahrat al-Mada'in is also a masterpiece on its own, split up into three different stages/emotions like Bohemian Rhapsody, but released almost 10 years before it.
----
Following the illegal, forced evictions of Palestinian residents to make way for Israeli settlers in Sheikh Jarrah during the middle of Ramadhan, the Palestinian people have suffered provocations from far-right Israeli marches, constant invasions of Masjid al-Aqsa, and an onslaught of Israeli airstrikes throughout Ramadhan. As of the 13th May, 64 Palestinians and 7 Israelis have lost their lives, and the conflict only looks to be getting much worse.
You can help by raising awareness of the Palestinian cause, attending pro-Palestinian protests in your area, and contacting your MP to bring up the inhumane treatment and illegal occupation of the Palestinian people in Parliament.

The peaceful holy land that she sings for is NOT the one that ‘Palestine’ activists look for today. The ‘our’ and ‘we’ she sings of includes the “temples, ancient churches, and mosques”, not Arab Muslims ruling the whole land to the exclusion of the interests of Christians and Jews.

@@UchihaSmko there is no irony because Kurds are Iranian/Persian people who wandered in various mountain ranges. It is actually proposed the word "Kurd" is derived from the term for "nomad" or "tent-dwellers". For whatever reason (unknown to me), often people (such as the Druze & Maronites of Lebanon) lived in the mountains to escape various persecutions. Currently, for example, Kurds, who were in the past given refuge in Syria, are now aligned with imperialist forces such as the USA to seize lands unwarranted for them. I have Lebanese friends who claim all of Lebanon belongs to them and I simply reply to them: "Your mere great-grandfathers are from the mountains. You should return there to herd goats, lambs & make kibbeh". Kurds are mere nomadic people who lived in the mountain ranges for whatever reasons.

@@Decoy1138 there is much said on either side of the fences that is pathetic and hateful. The piece orients the "temples, ancient churches, and mosques" toward peace, and to look forward to an end of barbarism, which seems like what all decent people would want.

@Decoy1138 4 ай бұрын
@@microcolonel Maybe. You might know more about it than me, but I get incredibly strong jingoistic vibes from this song which I do not from, say, Yerushalayim Shel Zahav. The song is also basically silent on the thousands of years of Jewish history in the city, despite all of the discussion of its Christian and Islamic history, which would seem to put its ~600,000 Jewish residents in a very uncertain position in the singer’s irredentist fantasy of reconquering the city. Doesn’t sound like peace to me.
@microcolonel
@microcolonel 4 ай бұрын
@@Decoy1138 definitely can be used that way, but there has to be something other than killing some day. It's also easy to point and judge when we have the Internet, and 57 years ago in Lebanon there was word of mouth and the news paper.. normal, sane, decent people can be convinced of a lot even today. Also I don't think the lyrics talk of "reconquering" the city, but rather that the people who take it by force will be met with the wrath of God.. which to me seems like a fair enough sentiment; though it does gloss over a lot.
