In the 1st season the main gangster killed the 1st person outside the games by accident (they had a fight over the food) and then the guards didn't punish him and the amount of money went up… That's when it clicked for them that they could gain from killing others outside the games and then it ended with the blood bath in the dormitory. The fact that some players were gangsters definitely made them go to violence faster, and maybe be more efficient at killing but during that huge fight in the dormitory it seemed like a lot more people were attacking than just the gangsters. Insanity was contagious in this case!

The mom doesn’t have a debt she’s only there cause she’s trying to get money to pay off the son debt that’s the sad part like the mom really could be home minding her business living her life but she legit there cause of her love for her son. Like the mom said with their money together they could have payed off his debt and had some left over to help them just a little bit but the son completely ignored that.

That line from S1 gets interpreted while missing important context. I speak Korean. Here's the actual conversation between 456 and old man. Context: 456 was being a whiny little brat asking if they had any other drink because he doesn't drink whole milk. Old man overhears this, and it amuses him. "You remind me of my son. I bet your mom spanked you a lot as a kid" The second remark is suggesting that the old man's son (identity unknown) must've also been a whiny picky eater whose mom/old man's wife spanked him out of frustration.

About the sharp weapon from the old lady and the drugs of Thanos, it's not that they don't know about it or they did not check, they purposely let them bring these types of things inside because these could make games extra spicy and exciting, these types of things could stir up trouble and they like that. Unlike with Gihun's tracker, of course, they have to get it from him. Remember in Season 1, they let the lady bring knife. They got it away from her only when she's done using it in "killing each other" part.

The interesting wild card here is that the games, and the VIPs consider the people in the games to be wastes of space and degenerate losers. Yet, 456 is in the games despite being wealthy, because he's trying to save people and make a moral stand. This could put him in a bit of a unique status, particularly with 001. I could see him losing a game and possibly being allowed to survive, in the same way the old man was when he was part of the games.
