Kirio and the Zero Squad were mentioned back in Pendulum story arc before Ichigo's battle with Aizen. Urahara took over her position after she was promoted. I love that it was set up previously, even though it's easy to miss. I also love how we saw Ginjo & Tsukishima's souls. It's a confimation that they died in Fullbring Arc but I love seeing them again. And yeah, Ichigo being Kukaku's cousin is crazy. Finally it makes sense why Ichigo looks so much like Kaien Shiba.

The anime actually cut out quite a bit of useful information in the conversation ichigo was having with mayuri. Mayuri explains more about broken bankai's especially regarding ikkaku, renji and komamura. Here's what Mayuri said "Naturally there are exceptions. Komamura Sajin's bankai, Kokujou Tengen Myouou has an extremely powerful bond with its wielder. As a result, any damage to the bankai is reflected as wounds on the user's body. A great disadvantage. However, in return once the user's wounds are healed, the bankai itself is also restored. But this is the only exception I have thus far found. As for the bankai of Madarame Ikkaku, which was destroyed during his battle with Adrad Liones it seems that Akon was able to forcibly restore it original shape but is possess but a fraction of it's original power." Then Ichigo asks about Renji's bankai "I heard his bankai was destroyed in his battle with byuakuya?" To which Mayuri responds "Have you ever counted the individual sections of his bankai form? Those sections of Hihiou Zabimaru that were destroyed by Kuckiki Byakuya remain destroyed to this day"

Everyone who saw Ichigo kept saying he looks just like Shiba Kaien and then later on his dads full name (Shiba Issin) was revealed and it clicked for everyone who remembered the part I mentioned in the first half of my comment. @@vhaelen326 I mean it's based off of Buddhism and Shintoism. So soul reapers and souls both reincarnate back to the world of the living after they die. Also we see zangetsu as an incarnation of yhwach. Ichigo and kaien are depicted as having essentially the same "heart". Byakuya mistakes Ichigo for him they meet. And then there's rukia. Kaien dies by rukia running him through with her zanpakuto, and when rukia first meets Ichigo he gets his powers by her running him through with her zanpakuto. I don't think it's like a plot point or anything but I think there's intentional symbolism. (If you want to theory shit post he does get his black hair back in that one transformation.)

But if I remember correctly it just had his body and memories, rukia being able to kill the arrancar hinged on whether or not it was really his soul. (I've been sick this week so I watched all the way through for the first time. So it's still somewhat fresh.) So fun fact, in the scene with Mayuri talking about broken Bankai, he brings up Ikkaku, Renji, and Komamura. Ikkaku's Bankai got broken in his battle with Edrad and was forcibly remade in the same shape but will never have the amount of power it originally had. Renji's Bankai had some of its segments destroyed in his battle with Byakuya and those segments never returned since. Komamura is a special case because his relationship with his Zanpakuto is so close any injuries inflicted to one is inflicted to the other and vice versa so his Bankai can heal as long as Komamura can heal

I think the popular consensus about Byakuya is that he was actually supposed to die, but due to fan backlash Kubo felt pressured to go back on that decision. I would have been okay with either or in regards to him dying or not, but it would have been interesting to see a version of Bleach where Byakuya is no longer around.

In the manga it's made more clear that one of the reason Ywach leaves after killing Yamamoto is because he knows that means the Zero Squad will come. Also I'd say the orders from Yamamoto for squad 4 to stay in their barracks mirrors the logic of the zero division, while they are incredibly strong and could have helped, what happens if hypothetically they leave their station and end up making a mistake and leaving the Soul King vulnerable, contingencies aren't really contingencies anymore if you start relying on them all the time.
