@@mollerbt if i remember correctly, it was to give edamura more confidence in his craft so that when he believes he has to escape the authorities, he'd be more willing to leave the country where laurent would be waiting for him.

@@ZainKaneko you didn't remember correctly unfortunately. It's explained in the second episode that the old lady is a scout for them to find a fellow swindler as they otherwise didn't have any contacts in Japan, thus the need for the scout to act as the bait. 🤦‍♂️😅
