I think that real Yachiru no Nozarashi ( her true name or whatever) is that powerful that it can literally take some of her true power and use it as Yachiru's zampakto to show Kenpachi's true zampakto power of whatever. Also i think that Kenpachi will get new ultra overpowered form with his true powers and his true zampakto,.....

@@xTheParadox99 Zangetsu because the shikai was Old Man Zangetsu and bankai was Tensa Zangetsu, a younger form. Same could be going on here, Yachiru is maybe the bankai form and the adult woman is shikai, that's why Yachiru doesn't disappear after Zaraki hears his zanpakuto's voice in Muken, and Yachiru is the one who grants him bankai while fighting Gerard.

I love that the answer turned out to be that Kenpachi's reiatsu is so damn dense that his zampakuto's spirit was able to form a spiritual body, and one that could not be distinguished from a living shinigami. I find no issue with this outcome at all, in fact I love the "unmatched strength brought me unparalleled loneliness, so I split myself in two to end it" trope.

If you think about the bankai like this: Kenpachi is the body that contains the power, but he's basically mindless and it's up to his sword to guide his actions. Nozarashi is the killer instinct that actually fights in Bankai form, while Yachiru seems to be the representation of his mind. Yachiru takes the role of puppeteering Kenpachi and limiting his and Nozarashi's power when necessary. Coincidentally while he didn't know his sword's name at all, any time he got "directions" from Yachiru they always got lost. Kenpachi is the container and source of power, Nozarashi is the instinct and skills, and Yachiru is the guide and limiter. My interpretation of it at least.

Essentially, he viewed her as a person, and named her as such. Due to the nature of souls, she kind of became a person because of that. And as a spirit person with high Reiryoku she naturally became a shinigami. Though I'm really curious about what happened to Sanpo Kenju now that Yachiru is back with Kenpachi completely.

I had theorized she was once part of nozarashi, back when she revealed kenpachis bankai, mainly from the fact her shikai form manifest as two seperate beings. I had the conjecture that nozarashis properties was to literally split anything. Meteors, unbreakable beings, even itself. It seems that nozarashi wanted to split off the weaker parts of herself, but found that only by being complete, is she able to achieve bankai with Kenpachi. This is all just speculation of course, but sounds cool 😎

Its a stretch but you could say this splitting ability even manifests in Yachiru's shikai. She splits herself into 2 more entities, but since she's an offshoot from the "original" Nozarashi herself, her shikai can only mimic her movements, rather than act on their own.

The naming process could be something like "when something is firstly named it has the powers", so thats why Ichibe has the powers over things, because he named them first and them they had the powers that the name envisioned. So Yachiru was nothing but then when Kenpachi gave her the name, she became something, which turned out to be a shinigami

Also with Soul King giving Ichibe the title to name things - he basically made him into the naming force itself. Like most of the Royal Guard is on meta-physical realm at this point, being personifications and gods of specific concepts. So Kenpachi naming Yachiru doesn't copy Ichibe's powers. It's Ichibe's powers acting up/it is an effect of his being on the world. It's through Ichibe as well that the names have power. And with Yachiru - Kenpachi giving her the name, he thought she was a Soul/Shinigami, thus she acted accordingly becoming one. Similarly to other Zanpaktous who take a specific roles given to them by their Shinigami. Like Shunsui's sword creating a second one to hide Ise sword.

Ultimately, i think part of the confusion on the back half of the explanation comes down this- how can he explain concept and story with such depth in a mere Q&A, and a story he hasn’t even written in full yet? I’m sure in time, with more chapters he could have clearly developed and expressed a story with clearer answers than this simple question got in response. It’s quite simple. Remember the vice captain with two releases/names for his zanpakuto? One being the real release and the other being a taunt which annoys it? His release is more potent depending on which one he uses. Zanpakuto spirits react to the name they are called, readers mistakenly believe only the real name can call on the spirits power, no it’s the choice of the spirit to respond to whatever they are called. Nozarashi was never called in at all, but Zaraki in fear of his own power and loneliness subconsciously sealed his own power to spare killing Retsu. That portion of sealed power (Nozarashi) manifested as a spirit (Shinigami and Zanpakuto are both reishi spirits, hence Bankai could be stolen via Vandereich medallions). When that portion of Nozarashi was bestowed the name Yachiru it responds expectedly by adopting a new identity in turn - which is a spirit named Yachiru who like Ichigo did not have an asauchi but called on their own power and formed a zanpakuto. Hence Kubo appropriately saying “think of Yachiru as being like Tensa Zangetsu” he is talking about the fact Ichigo never had a real zanpakuto until Oestu gave him an asauchi.

Considering that Kenpachis reiatsu is so vulgarly overwhelming that makes him capable of cutting the air itself and through space-time. Plus the fact that he was his truest self when he was just a kid. Maybe, when he picked up that sword off that corpse, his reiatsu overwrote the traditional rules of how zanpakuto ownership works. His reiatsu forced it to submit though his personality at the time wouldn't allow him to make a personal connection. Maybe, when he was an adult, and baby Yachiru came to him, that was actually him manifesting his will and desire somewhere deep in his soul to make a connection with his zanpakuto before he was even aware of this himself. So the zanpakuto probably read this and with the help of Kenpachis ridiculously op reiatsu, was able to manifest his will and desire into physical form. Then when he gave the manifestation of his will and desire a name, him basically having infinite reiatsu, was able to cause the ownership thing to happen in reverse, giving Yachiru Shinigami powers. Think back to when fused Zangetsu and White was trying to stab 1-5(yeah I got lazy). 1-5 accepted the fusions blade and the fusion poured all of his power into 1-5 to help him gain the Mugetsu. Maybe its like that but in reverse. Instead of a physical blade, it was with extremely potent reiatsu and instead of the zanpakuto giving powers to the shinigami, the op shinigami gave a physical form to the *zanpakuto, AND she was still a little girl too, which shows that his reiatsu STILL wasn't fully matured yet. I expect a very, VERY OP form of fully matured Kenpachi in bbs in the near future now. Just my 2 cent take at this. SHEEEESH!!! that was a keyboard full!

I think before he named her Yachiru, she was a more ephemeral leaking of his shinigami power. Once he gave her a name he is unknowingly acknowledging her existence as something separate from himself and his sword, leaving a real bundle of shinigami power - so of course she is a shinigami.

Honestly I think it makes sense that Yachiru is like the younger form of Shunsui's Katen Kyōkotsu. If I remember correctly the younger form was created by the older as a means of hiding Nanao's sword, but didn't originally exist. Then later, when Shunsui gives Nanao back her family sword, the young girl physically manifests in such a way that Nanao could see her. In this case maybe Nozarashi created a child like form of herself to connect with Zaraki, since he wouldn't/couldn't hear her voice from the sword. Zaraki then names her Yachiru which in turn gives her power to manifest permanently as a Shinigami. Later she becomes a spirit again because Nozarashi knows that the only voice the bankai beserk Zaraki would listen to is Yachiru's. Thus now you have the Zangetsu thing where Nozarashi and Yachiru represent his Shikai and Bankai. (shrug)

I always thought Yachiru was the manifestation of Kenpachi's dormant power. Literally a spiritual pressure so strong that it manifested its own separate spirit while still being an aspect of his own. If you noticed, once Kenpanchi attained his shikai, Yachiru basically disappeared until Kenpachi released his bankai, telling him that his physical form isnt strong enough to handle the power of his bankai.

When his Zanpakuto manifest itself in front of Zaraki it is not a human soul but he didn't know it. When Zaraki gave it a name he recognized it as a young human girl soul (The intend of the name). Now you also have to remember that any human soul with exceptional spiritual energy can become a Shinigami. In short he didn't gave her Shinigami powers he made her into a pseudo human soul thus making her able to attain the powers of a Shinigami.

Okay I have come up with a bit of a theory that may help to simplify things just a little bit. So we know that once a soul reaper calls out the name of it's Zanpakuto, they are able to activate their shikai And it's abilities. So what if, by giving Yachiru a name, Kenpachi is activating her abilities. Another way of looking at it, given the importance of names in soul society, what if having a name legitimized Nozarashi's manifestation as a soul, hence giving her the abilities of a soul reaper.

It's possible that Ichibe's power is so intertwined with the soul society that Yachiru would not have been able to manifest the power that she had until she got a name. Not so much that naming her gave her the power, but having no name was preventing her from having the power.

At the point Yachiru spawns, Kenpachi has already put a seal on his power. This affects not only himself but also Nozarashi, so she create a simulacrum to try and get him to communicate. But even the he is deaf to her words and go to give the simulacrum a name, this gives Yachiru individuality and coalesce the untapped reiatsu into her. When later Kenpachi rediscovers his powers, Yachiru doesn't just disperse as she has a will. She does reapear briefly to give him Bankai as she rejoins Nozarashi. That's what I think happened.

It's really poetic that Yachiru Unohana is the reason why Kenpachi starts unconsciously sealing away his power, and Kenpachi names the manifestation of that repressed power Yachiru after her as a tribute, which further represses it because now he's using the wrong name for her and getting further away from recognizing what she really is.

Kubo's Bleach universe was never a very well crafted lore if we're being honest. It was always about a spectacle, colorful characters driven by emotions and teen angst, and grand adventures chuck full of flashy fight "samurai with superpowers" style. It never really was about setting a plothole proof world into motion. Remember how Byakuya lost a speed combat against bankai Ichigo, and then won a speed combat against the fastest Espada? Even though low tier espada like base form Grimmjow were absolutely blitzing bankai Ichigo left and right? And these two fights (Byakuya vs Ichigo and Ichigo vs Grimmjow) happen in a span of just a couple chapters. I tell you bro, Kubo doesn't really care about his world being consistent. He even said so himself. His story for him is just means for the spectacle.

@@mitromney byakuya never tested his speed against ichigo. Ichigo just showed him how fast he can move in his bankai. Also every character in this series gets a zenkai boost after their fights. It was stated during soul society so it makes sense how ichigo was able to catch up to grimmjow. The reason you don't like his writting is because you don't know how to pay attention. Also Stark's the fastest but I bet you missed that detail too!

I mean whether or not Yachiru is a part of Kenpachi's zanpaktou spirit or a part of his shinigami spirit doesn't really matter, because these two are ONE, aren't they? And Lilinett was also pretty literally Starrk's ressurection, not just a part of his spirit, she transformed INTO his bankai pistols and wolves.... And ressurection is an equivalent to bankai. AND she also had her own zanpaktou when they were separated!

I think that Yachiru was originally the same entity as Nozerashi. So when Kenpachi named that little girl the name "Yachiru" he basically identified it as a separate entity to Nozerashi. This name basically differentiates Yachiru as a separate existence. A shinigami, who is connected to Kenpachi but is unaware that she is his Bankai.

From what I understand about zanpakuto, this makes sense (tho take this with a grain of salt because it’s been awhile). At the start, you get an empty sword, you pour your spirit into the blade over time, and you get a zanpakuto; the confusion comes in treating a zanpakuto like it’s not a fragment of a soul. I don’t think it matters what you are in that process so long as you’re some kinda variation of a soul. In giving Yachiru a separate identity, she was able to assume a whole new persona and become more complete as a soul as opposed to just a piece of Kenpachi. I think this is exactly like Starkk and Lilinette, but because Kenpachi is a soul reaper, his powers simple works differently. When an Espada release their Resurreccíon, they are REVERTING or resummoning their old Hollow powers, while Soul Reapers draw out the spirits they’ve manifested inside their blade. Hence why Lilinette kind of goes back to Starkk to regain that power in a way, but for Yachiro, I think you’d be better off looking at it like she’s some sort or lesser soul, or a secondary soul that’s kind of built itself up and imbued a sword with enough of herself to manifest its own shikai. But because she was intrinsically tied to another being, her soul body, kinda like pre-TYWB Zangetsu’s physical blade, was unstable. And she then eventually returned once she remembered who she really was is. Also unrelated but this seems like a cursed way of confirming that shinigami can in theory reproduce asexually if they’re stronger enough.

I think it would make sense… Ichibe, one of the strongest shinigami ever existed, the man who gave names to everyone and everything in the spirit’s world, made a son so incredibly powerful that scared even Ichibe himself; so he decided to abandon him without giving him a name. (People of rukongai named him Zaraki cause that was where he came from) I think this story would make sense, if we consider the fact that he gives power to yachiru simply by giving her a name…

Finally, some confirmation. Oh & Lilynette was born from Starrk as an arrancar (no hogyoku needed) with her own zanpakuto. So it makes sense to me why Yachiru automatically became a soul reaper with her own zanpakuto.

The concept is actually kind of simple, but not. The Schrödinger's cat thought experiment more or less sums this up. The fact spiritual energy was given a name and it has a personality means it does in fact exist, and therefor has the ability like any other member of soul society to become a soul reaper. What were the original souls of soul society the dead or divine beings? Also again, Kenpachi and his immense power likely willed this to be in 1 way or another.

Totally easy not complicated at all. Kenpachi found a sword and filled it with his power that then split that power which met Kenpachi and got named by Kenpachi after a previous Kenpachi which gave her her own powers, which she then gave back to Kenpachi so that he could unleash his bankai after becoming an actual Kenpachi. Glad Kubo straightened all that out for us.

With this new information, I also notice an interesting detail, which is that Yachiru returns when he goes into bankai and guides him. Perhaps, since Nozarashi and Yachiru are linked, both of them knew Kenpachi would need guidance when first using bankai and Yachiru is the most familiar to him to help. His power itself is untamed and animalistic, so it would be reasonable that the way his power manifests is dependent on his control over it. The more he masters his powers, and the more he's in tune with Nozarashi, perhaps he'll have more control over his bankai form. As for Yachiru being a shinigami, maybe the name "Yachiru" has a certain effect on whatever object or person it's applied to. It could be that the name serves to empower the object or person with shinigami or shinigami-like powers to some degree. Though, with Yachiru, it could have been applied differently because she's partially a zanpakuto spirit. And perhaps how souls get shinigami powers, through being given a certain name at birth, unbeknownst to anyone except maybe Ichibe or the Soul King.

The way I understand is Nozarashi was basically an asauchi when Kenpachi picked it up, and wanted to be named. When he refused to acknowledge the asauchi as a spirit, it split into two, one he would continue to ignore and wield, and another in the form of a little girl. Normally you'd fight an asauchi into submission to form a bond, but this one had been begging for a connection, so the act of giving it a name completed the zanpukto process, giving it a shikai power. Kenpachi sees Yachiru as a person, not a tool, so he doesn't use the power, she does. Once Unohana forces him to learn Nozarashi's name, he forms a bond with the other half of the asauchi that he stole, unlocking a new shikai. When Yachiru helps him, and combines the two spirits, it forms his Bankai. Yeah, that makes sense.

I think that rather than the name itself giving Yachiru her powers, it gave her the potential to *develop* Soul Reaper Power. She was basically a blank slate, and did not yet have a name. By giving her the name Yachiru Kusajishi, he made her an individual. Distinct from Nozarashi. And because she was named under the belief that she was a Person, rather than a Zanpakuto, the name partly made her a Person

Yachiru representing his Bankai actually makes sense considering how much smaller Kenpachi's axe is in his Bankai. Huge blade for a grown woman, smaller blade for a child. Also, could it be possible that when Kenpachi named Yachiru, it was a similar case with pouring one's soul into an Asauchi? (probably did not spell that right XD)

One thing I've noticed people are forgetting is that wen Ichigo meets the bonkai version of Quincy Zangetsu he pulled out the Hollow. The Hollow is Ichigo's shinigami powers, and he also looked different looking like the Vasto Lorde from and by extension the hollow White.

I took it the other way. Don't think Kenpachi gave Yachiru shinigami powers, but rather she did for him when she touched the empty blade. He wasn't a shinigami in the beginning, he was just another soul wandering around looking for fights. Yachiru didn't even show up until after he fought Unohana who was a shinigami, who he admired & wanted to fight again. Once he decided he wanted to become a shingami to be able to fight her again, Nozarashi manifested little Yachiru to help guide him down that path

I think it's because Kenpachi gave her an identity separated and uncorrelated to/from himself. Hence making Yachiru her own person, her own being. I mean she already kinda was since she manifested a body in the spirit world just to reach out to him, but by giving her a name Kenpachi gave a whole new depth to her being. He sort of unknowingly and unintentionally rejected her being a part of himself (Nozarashi). Hence why I think Yachiru was able to awaken a bankai. Edit: To simplify things, she became a person.

What if a Zanpakuto spirit begins aging from when you first have it, and matures into a Shikai - then continues maturing until it splits off forming a younger spirit as a Bankai. There will naturally always be an age gap between the two. This is not something that happens when you unlock Bankai, it is something that simply happens as the spirit matures. This explains why I think that Yachiru is Kenny’s Bankai, and the older woman is actually his Shikai. Yachiru is the spirit that gave Kenny his Bankai, not the older woman. This explains why Shunsui says how he got intimate with the older spirit first (Shikai) before the younger of the two spirits. This explains why Tensa Zangetsu is younger than Zangetsu. So, possibly this could happen with every Zanpakuto, which is why you say Bankai to activate it, you're calling that specific spirit.

What I think of it is that you'd need very specific conditions to do this. For starters, splitting spirits makes two weaker individuals. Yachiru is probably not as potent as Nozarashi, but it's only when they're together that they can achieve bankai. Thus, splitting up many times makes for extremely weak individuals. The whole is stronger than its parts, in that sense. Secondly, it was probably due to Kenpachi's overwhelming power and deafness to his Zanpakuto that the split happened in the first place. I'd imagine that Zanpakutospirits really dislike the idea of having to split themselves in parts, but that's only speculation.

Hi MrTommo, actually a couple of years ago i had a theory (sort of) in which i said that Yachiru was the actual Bankai (just like Tensa Zangetsu) but besides that, that Yachiru was getting imprints of Zaraki reiatsu due to always been close to him and just like him putting locks on her mind and power forgetting she was an actual Zanpakutoh herself. Later on when Zaraki defeats Unohana and open all the locks and he is able to hear the actual name of his Zanpakutoh then it also opens the locks on Yachiru's mind. Don't know if thats a complete nonsense but was a theory of mine xD i'll be glad if you have any comments on it and keep with the excellent work you do.

Zabimaru told Renji the wrong bankai name intentionally, resulting in a flawed bankai. Yamichika intentionally calls their shikai by the wrong name to produce a more physical form from it. So we already know that giving a name with intent can alter the way a person's soul manifests. So it makes total sense to me that Zaraki intentionally granting Yachiru a name while thinking of her as another living being would cause Yachiru to manifest like a normal person. Ultimately it's still all Zaraki's power and soul at work, he's just created a new way to manifest that power. So Ichibei is clearly not the only one that can name things. The difference is that, from what we've seen giving something a name other than it's true name results in a weaker version of that thing. In contrast when Ichibei names something, that becomes it's true name, so there is no power loss in the change of the name unless Ichibei wants there to be; he could presumably rename something to make it more powerful as well.

Its kind of a japanese thing, a lot of anime and media made by japanese authors show that by naming you're imbuing the object or being with some kind of sometimes primordial essences that channel the meaning of the name into that person or thing being, giving the recipient the characteristics associated to the name.

What could mean is that Yachiru didn't have any significant level of power, and she got that from Zaraki, allowing her to become a Shinigami later on, and develop a shikai once she got an Asauchi. PS: or at that point only he could see her, but the moment he named her, she became a regular soul.

There are a couple of thoughts that go through my mind hearing this. (Keep in mind, these are just thoughts, I haven't worked through any of the repercussions of them, or researched their evidence for/against/etc.) So we know that Shinigami can materialize their Zanpakto spirits, as Renji had done to train against. We know that Shinigami CAN transfer their powers to others (substitute Shinigami like Ichigo), and we know that as you mentioned naming things gives them power, and naming zanpakto's by anything OTHER than their name, can either make them weird or different. I feel like all of these things might touch upon what really happened. We know that Zaraki was horribly powerful, and had far more Reiatsu than most captains at a very early age. It is plausible (likely even) that he may have attempted to materialize his Zanpakto's spirit, SUBCONSCIOUSLY. When he picked up the blade originally, it wasn't "pure" it might have been empty, but it may have still retained a tiny imprint of it's previous wielder's reiatsu, which may have changed Zaraki's spirit, or may have made it difficult for him to hear her voice. So if he had tried to materialize his spirit at some point (even if subconsciously) but there had been a communication error due to the zanpakto not having been purified, and perfectly blank, then this is what may have caused a more permanent split of the sword's power. Cutting into it's Shikai, and Bankai halves, but as Zaraki at that point was only in the beginning stages of being able to access those powers, then the power took the form of a young, immature version of itself. The naming would have acted similar to turning her into a substitute shinigami, while sealing her off from her natural zanpakto abilities, due to it not being the natural "true" name she had as a Zanpakto. So in short, the fact that he didn't use a "clean" sword to imbue his soul into originally, meant he couldn't talk with his sword's spirit, leading to everything else that happened from that point forward.

My take on this is as follows: Kenpachi couldn't hear Nozarashi, in an attempt to reach out to him Nozarashi split herself into a being for shikai and one for bankai and sent the bankai being to open a discussion with Kenpachi. The act of splitting and manifesting a part of herself without a connection to her shinigami left the bankai being as basically a baby with scrambled memories. Kenpachi found and named that being and since that being is a part of him as well he was able to subconsciously imprint some of his own shinigami powers onto her since he associated that name with a strong shinigami. Doing this further interfered with the memories of the manifested bankai and only her strong attachment to Kenpachi remained. When Kenpachi finally made contact with Shikai Nozarashi and invoked her for the first time it shattered all the barriers between Kenpachi, Nozarashi and Yachiru all her memories came flowing back and she reunited with her Shikai self once again

Sounds interresting and all but your thoughts have one major flaw I would say. It's regarding the zanpakuto and it's Status quo. Nanao Ise has a Zanpakuto that is not of her own making but inherited by the females in her family. So a Shinigami can use another Shinigamis Zanpakuto. You can argue now that this is a genetic thing and so on. But if memory serves me correct and the translation wasn't absolutely of the god of swords Ōetsu Nimaiya used a zanpakuto from a Shinigami who couldn't handle his own sword. The one in the tank. Also in his realm the assauchi have human like appearance which makes yachiruus case not of such a strange thing. However her having Shinigami powers is truly special indeed.

I always thought of Yachiru as Kenapchis sheath to his zanpackto, and when he finally realized his desire she was born from blood to guide him. It was only after she arrives that he goes to challenge a captain of the seretei, giving his murderous intent and direction and goal. It's quite funny that Kenpachi is more like a hollow attaining Vaste Lorde than a shinigami in some ways. So Yachiru being a part of a incomplete zanpackto allowed her to manifest part of its power too.

After the fight with Yachiru Unohana Kenpachi subconsciously locked away much of his power and potential, as we know. Naming her Yachiru probably imbued her with that power, the power of a shinigami. As for her shikai, it was probably so minimal because Kenpachi had taken most of that power back and then she disappeared when he claimed the last of it with the shikai release. Her appearance before bankai was likely not a physical manifestation but instead akin to how Zangetsu appeared mentally to Ichigo in his fight with Kenpachi.

Zangetsu comparisoin makes a lot of sense. Much like he was a manifestation of Ichigo's Quincy powers, Yachiru is a manifestation of Kenpachi's Shinigami powers; though probably more realistically the sealed portion. Then, as he finally started to not hold back, he began to hear Nozarashi gaining access to his Shikai, then finally Bankai when Yachiru reunites with him. Plus, the naming of her was a pseudo recognition of his sword, granting it/her external manifested power.
