Thank You Great Video. I purchased the 116688 last month and love it. A week later I learned it’s been discontinued along with the Daytona. To me this watch is a work of art. I find the Blue Bezel and white face give it a nice pop with the yellow band.
@KevinGannets5 ай бұрын
It really is an amazing time piece. My personal favorite out of all the Rolex Catalog of course up until it got discontinued. But call me crazy I think the best thing they ever did was discontinue it because so many people gave it hate for no reason now it'll be a "collectors item" and people will give it the love and attention it truly deserves.

The unpopular models when discontinued in my opinion will be the most collectable ones. The 116688 (especially the 2017 models onwards) are made in very small numbers. I went to the used market to acquire mine after being on the waiting list for over two years for a brand new 116680 from my AD that I never got the phone call for. I have an 8" wrist, so it fits lovely. A Daytona looks like Child's watch on me. Love your videos. Best wishes from the UK!
@KevinGannets10 ай бұрын
2 years and still no phone call Yikes! that’s also one thing that I really love about this watch that you don’t realize how small 40mm and under looks on your wrist until you wear this one. It’s definitely the perfect size in my opinion I wish Rolex made more watches in the 44mm sizes. I know they have quite a few 41mm and 42mm watches since 2017 but I really like the 44mm aha. Glad to hear you love the video! I put a lot of time into hoping it will reach its audience and for the audience to be pleased with it so it’s good to hear that 🙂

Definitely a special watch, and I didn‘t know about this movement before! Concerning the polishing: I inherited a 1989 37mm datejust (steel-gold) around 2013 from my grandfather. He wore it almost everyday I think, took regulary baths in the very salty mediterrean see (he was Italian), and so the watch was in quite a rough condition. It was a special moment as well, because since I was a kid, he always told me that I‘d get this watch when he would be gone. When I was little I obviously didn‘t realize that not only this was just a watch, but a really nice one. My grandmother told me to bring it to Rolex for a complete service. It cost around 900CHF at the time, but I was stunned: the watch looked like a brand new one. Even now, 10 years later, it still is in an impeccable condition (I don‘t wear it really often to be fair), and I don‘t regret doing it, and hope that I will be able to enjoy this beautiful timepiece for a long long time, and to pass it to the next generetation as well. Long story short: you get rid of a patina that can be charming to a certain point in my point of view, but get a watch that feels brand new, which is also due to the timeless design of Rolex. Have a nice day!

First of all, thank you for the detailed story! It really puts things into perspective. It’s so nice to hear a heartwarming story like that. Glad to hear from your story how the watch that has so much family history and value to you did not get ruined in anyway and came out looking like new. I’m sure there will be people that are against polishing a watch like that but i’m on the “whatever makes you happy” side of the spectrum. Congrats on your watch and the successful polishing! 🙂

@@KevinGannets No worries, its super nice to see people waering these watches almost daily, even when that valuable, thats what they‘re made for! I was 18 at the time and super happy with the result! Today 10 years later I can also see the other side, but it doesn‘t change the fact that he wore it all those years on the same bracelet. Enjoy your beautiful Yachtmaster!

How often do you get compliments on it? I am struggling to get this or a yellow gold day-date.
@KevinGannets9 ай бұрын
Honestly over the duration I’ve worn this watch i’ve gotten a lot of compliments and/or notices, which is super weird because I didn’t get as much attention wearing other Rolex watches like the Yacht-Master or Daytona. Definitely grabs attention a bit more than the others

Ah yes, I have the same situation with my ss ym2, especially at the boat launch bars. They say what is that you are wearing and I have to explain what she is and her purpose. One guy I meet earlier in the season came up to me and shown me his new 2 tone version and said it was I that convinced him to getting one. Yes, it really is a addictive time piece!!!😅😅😅😂😂❤❤❤

I didn’t like the Yacht Master II until I saw one in person. Photos and videos don’t really do this watch justice but due to that, it’ll probably sky rocket in value when it gets discontinued (which is rumoured to be this year). Also the movement is because each regatta race has a 10 minute count down, after you get set to start but before you’re allowed to cross the start line, thus the movement has a 10 minute timer.

Good video. As a global sailor, it is one of my goals to own this watch, as a reward to myself for sailing the world's oceans. On multi-day passages, I find that I would use the 10 minute countdown timer, to also scan the horizon on the leeward side of the boat, where the sails can be a blindspot. to check for other boat traffic... I currently use a Casio with repeating countdown timer for this, which is set at 15 minutes which issues an alarm and autoresets, but I am willing to work within the limitations of Rolex's technology for the look which I also love... Thanks for the content.

That's a lot of bling! Mine ym2 is all ss and a red second sweep hand with a blue second sub dial ring which matches the bezel color. Also she has minimal bling It's too bad that Rolex discontinued the ym2's now. Watch in the future how this model will be sought after in the end with all those negative videos turning around to positive!😅😅❤❤❤
@KevinGannets7 ай бұрын
It is a shame that they discontinued it but at the same time it's the kind of watch that SHOULD be discontinued. The Yacht-Master II was one of those items in life that received a lot of negativity for really no reason but in a few years will be seen as a collectors item and something that people will say is "cool" or "beautiful" just because you cannot buy one new from Rolex. The watch deserves popularity and if this is how it gets more popularity then so be it 😁
