@DougAlesUSAАй бұрын
A combination of a change in tax code combined with improved quality from low labor cost countries made the economics of building yachts in the USA a financial challenge. The 2008 financial meltdown didn’t help either. Sea Ray’s owner Brunswick tried to sell the brand but failed to find a buyer. They held on for multiple years as losses mounted. Eventually, unable to sell, Brunswick did what they had to do, discontinue the portion of the Sea Ray line that was not cash flow positive, keeping the 34 foot and under catagory alive where volumes are high enough to take advantage of mass production methods to contain costs. In my geography, Carver is one example of a US manufactured yacht brand that went under. There are many more. Consumer tastes also changed. As someone who owns a Sea Ray Sundancer circa 2005, I enjoy the cruising lifestyle and take many weekend long or longer trips onboard, but I’m a dying breed. I was at my former marina yesterday. A marina once filled with cruiser style boats now has only a handful of old cruisers remaining, yet every slip is full and they have a multi-year waiting list just to get a slip. The marina is now filled with big, powerful pontoon boats, center consul boats, and activity / ski / wake type boats. The 60 foot+ big yacht world is alive and well, but the inland, and costal cruiser market has shrunk to a shadow of what it was twenty years ago.

I'm a little late to the party, but here goes. I can deal with the small bunks and VIP cabin. What I cannot deal with is the extra small en suite/day head. That shower is so small, it is almost unusable. Master cabin en suite isn't much better. Would expect a little more for a boat that size. So much wasted space in the sun lounge. Could easily fit the galley there and increase the cabin/en suite size down below. Everything else was just fine.

I've always been a fan of SeaRay boats, but the salon on this boat seems rather spartan and small for a yacht of her size. Another troubling sight was the plunger in the day head/VIP ensuite. That in my opinion is a red flag for plumbing/blackwater issues. I don't think I have ever seen a plunger onboard a yacht or in a yacht tour video.

885K 🤣😂Price is a huge problem for these boats. The primary purchase was in the 1.4M to 1.5M neighborhood and likely purchased by someone that could toss around that kind of money and walk-a-way losing huge without the sting. This boat is an inner coastal cruiser and far from a trans crosser. This would be a nice rig for short runs like FL to the Bahamas on a good day or a shore hugger elsewhere. For me, way too much $ for this type of boating and for about 1/2 the cost of this thing, one can buy a sleek twin or even tri engine cruiser and get the same job done faster with loads of comfort and better, the ability to trailer it. I've been on this boat (not this particular one) many times and there is no doubt it is a nice ride and very comfy at cruise but at 25 knots, it's like anything else, you're not going to be lounging around watching a football game tilting whiskey and enjoying your favorite cigar unless the water is glass. In the end, it's just too much $ for what it can't do..
