NEW Azimut Magellano 60 | The best Magellano yet?

The NEW Azimut Magellano 60 is the newest and smallest model in Azimut Benetti Group’s stylish pseudo-Trawler range.
In this video, Jack Haines conducts an in-depth review, sea trial and walkthrough tour to see how the Magellano stacks up against rivals such as the Sirena 58 and Absolute 58 Navetta.
As with its larger siblings, the 60 has styling by superyacht designer Ken Freivokh and a semi-planing dual-mode hull, designed to be stable and efficient at slower speeds but capable of over 25 knots flat out.
On deck, the flybridge extends a long way aft, creating a comfortable terrace towards the stern, which is separated from a large dinette by a neatly integrated wet bar. The cockpit seating runs along the centreline, which when combined with the see-through transom creates a charming waterside dining spot.
The saloon has an aft galley arrangement with a large sofa to port and a clever dining area to starboard, which aligns with the floor-to-ceiling window to deliver excellent views out over the water from the internal dining area.
Below, the striking decor comes to the fore and brings to life a spacious three-cabin, three-bathroom configuration with a full-beam owner’s cabin amidships, double VIP forward and a twin to starboard. Crew are catered for in a single cabin, aft.
The Azimut Magellano 60 is powered by twin MAN i6 730hp engines on V-drive shafts and will hit a top speed of 26 knots with an 18-knot cruise.

Great review! Thanks for taking your time showing how beautifully that hull handled swell! Honestly I don’t to seem to get why Azimut, one of the most beautiful yachts, fall well behind other brands in terms of convenience and usability! While they are top notch in looks and finish, they still lack crucial elements such as side access door at the helm! I also can’t believe that they left that much gab between bathing platform and hull. They lack a lot of storage specifically if compared with similar size and displacement yachts such as Absolute’s Navetta. Not mentioning a tender davit on flight bridge which many owners also consider and provided as an option by almost all semi-displacement builders.

Nice boat and very pretty inside. However, as I may have mentioned in other comments, if I want a Category A boat with a semi displacement hull then it's the Sasga Menorquin 54 for me. This Azimut comes a close second on my list of things I could never afford. Thank you for a great tour and sea trial as usual.

Great review of a lovely boat - there is nothing I didn't like about this 60 and so it would be my choice of the three. Fantastic looking boat with some really lovely interior fittings. It doesn't sacrifice style for practicality though and everything seems really useable and well thought out. I like this a lot.

The mini 25 Metri design is probably one of the most beautiful lines out there. Especially in this colour combination. The hard top always ruins the proportions on small(ish) boats, but its probably much more practical than the bimini.

I would add the Prestige X60 to the Sirena 58 vs Navetta 58 vs Magellano 60 dilemma. There are then the slightly less direct competitors and lower volume manufacturers: Grand Trawler 62 (slower), Pardo E60 (closer competitor than at first glance), Sundeck 580, Explorer 62 etc. The exterior of the Magellano 60 looks quite timeless but I worry that the interior (e.g. rattan) will date. I don't love the high bow of the Navetta and I'm not sure the front window layout of the X60 is fully resolved but I'm seeing it next week and it's sometimes different in the flesh. Lack of storage with the X60 is a potential issue for me, boating in colder climes where you need storage for waterproofs and boots. The shortlist for me would be the Magellano and the Sirena. As someone who feels guilty about fuel usage, I would love to hear about fuel burn in future reviews. I'm guessing about 210l/hr at 20knots???

Serena 58 or the Absolut or the Benetteau Grand Trawler. I can actually think about 3 more boats before considering this one. I always feel that the Azimut Magellano line is the sea's equivalent of high fashion brands street wear. It might say Gucci on it, but it's still just a t-shirt. Thanks for the vid, guys.

Another great review thank you! Beautiful and interesting boat!! Interior and exterior social space look excellent and spacious, but I’m mildly surprised by the lack of some basics like not having dynamic steps to the bathing platform and the awkward passerelle. Great to see ‘much needed’ dedicated space for a Seabob!! (but again… at this level who only has one single Seabob? You generally have two, so where does the other one go? (as it doesn’t look like there is much garage/toy space). Meh I’m not in this price range anyway so I’m in no position to criticise this beautiful boat as I’m ultimately aiming for something more ordinary like a (used) Galeon 500 Fly (which BTW still has steps to the bathing platform, a decent passerrelle and a tender garage that can store at least two seabobs (no crew cabin though)).

Hello Jack! Another great review, thanks. Every time I watch a video of an Azimut on KZbin, I think they are quite remarkable boats but, every time I step onboard one of them - and I did it several time - I am very disappointed! Same feeling with Sirena. Absolute are a little better or at least they are trying to improve. In my opinion these brands aren't worth the money they cost. Rather than these, I choose a Grand Banks 60... less stylish and charming (maybe!) but better built. CIAO!

They really do a good job at making a yacht for every style of boating you couod want to do. The price isn't bad and Azimut does a lot of customer appreciation things amd events. You buy into a brand that is similar to Nordhavn in a way. I don't see owners of CdM's getting a group of boats together and boating to the Bahamas for a giant beach party.

Wondering why there isn't an IPS option for an engine, Azimut as a group are slowly shifting to Pods even in their fly and grande series! Why not the trawlers ? Thanks for the excellent review as usual And many thanks for finally testing boats in real weather not fish ponds!

It would be a good video to compare the Absulute, Magellano and Sirena brands. Even the smallest Horizon FD. I was invited aboard one in Palma a couple of years ago and was very impressed by the quality. I am sure they all beat the quality of my ageing Beneteau First that my wife insists I swap for a power boat before she leaves me. If only I could afford one, either the power boat or the divorce. 😀

Choose between this new Magelanno, the Sirena58 or the Navetta...tough question! Would consider the most economic boat, as in my case I roughly go long distances. Quality wise, not quite sure of which one is the best, but having been on the Sirena and the Navetta, Sirena would be my choice...still have to check the Magelanno and evaluate, but I believe it will be costlier...

Great review, lots of issues with this yacht. We owned an azimut 54 and a 66 fly. Shower on bridge? Why The captain chairs look extremely uncomfortable The day head,why? How about a stacker washer and dryer and walk in closet instead. Master head needs 2 sinks Why do they keep putting couches in the the master? Storage, storage storage. These yachts are occupied 90% of the time by 2 people. Design it that way. Crew? No one has a crew on a 60ft. It should be well designed storage. The aft deck is fantastic

Its a really nice boat and I like the design, but if I wanted a Trawler I'd get one of the American brands. An Outer Reef or Grand Banks to stay in the semi-displacement category. This is a Med Cruiser which is not a bad thing - just not my thing. Of all of these I'd go with the Grand Trawler 62

From this tour, I don't think the side decks are safe at all!! The bulwarks only come knee high. The easiest height to lose people over the side. Should have rails up to the hips at least as other higher end boats do. Beautiful lines for sure. Love to see the range at 8 knts.

I won’t say that it’s not a very nice boat, contemporary design really doesn’t make any sense, like you said different fabrics, textures , materials and colors but it’s all there for the sake of design there’s no reason for any of it, none of it has any purpose. Yacht interiors came about because it’s what works the best they used certain woods cabinets had ventilation so they looked a certain way I think everyone gets my point. The interior of this boat could be some 20 something’s apartment
