Another ussful thing you can do on the Ft-2, 3 and 5 is set a GPS location to a memory so you don't have use battery power for running the GPS, and not have to wait for a lock say if you are at home or from a fixed location. You can save multiple locations and change them. This way, you are up and running with your location being sent and receiving other stations distance without having to have GPS on. After getting a lock, say at home, go to setup menu, then APRS, then 24 My Position choose P1 or another, tap Disp then push P.Write. Now the current GPS is saved to that memory. Back out and leave your position on P1. Now, the radio thinks it is there until you change it back to GPS in the May position menu under APRS.
