Most amazing Handie Talkie I've ever owned. The Yaesu VX-8DR literally does it all. I have 396 repeaters now in memory and its just an excellent radio. Getting to an advanced level of use is going to take a minute to learn. I mean just the menu will take 10 minutes to scroll through not to mention all the sub-settings under the more than 176 page manual It is in-depth on explaining everything in easy to follow details. Do yourself a favor and get the programming software for this radio! Although its possible to input all your frequencies by finger tapping, get the programmer It is a must. It automatically programs offsets and everything on the fly, awesome stuff. The navigation features are awesome. The GPS features are great. The output power is as advertised. There's nothing you won't like about this radio. To bad it was discontinued for difficulty to learn. This is not a beginners radio!

Hi OM, I appreciate your tutorial on this set, I have been contemplating buying one, checked out the review on E-Ham and figured I'd check out you an owner, I'm impressed.I think this one is for me even with my 70 year old fumble fingers you made it look less difficult than I imagined. Thanks for taking the time to make the video showing us this fine hand held. 73, Kim WA7BTG

Great video. TNX I just got a pristine VX-8DR today and will be watching as many of your videos as possible. I've shot a bunch myself, but all home improvement. ;-) TNX for taking the time to make tutorial videos.

Good question. Yes you can by pressing and holding the band button. (the A and B buttons to the left of the LCD) Which ever band button the repeater is on.

Hey great video! Don't forget that it only works on the A band so that needs to be set first.

That little squelch type noise at the first of your video, is in other people's video too. My radio does that also sometimes. I wonder what it is.

Hi! Very interesting video that highlights nice features of the radio. I would like to ask you based on your experience, if using the radio on commercial fm receive, how long does a full battery last? Thank you.

Amazing sound from such a tiny radio. Does FM mode play in stereo if you use headphones? Have to find me one of these little radios. I'm thinking of getting a hand held radio scanner.

I noticed that the radio signal is stronger and clearer in single mode. I wonder if the all frequencies are affected that way in dual mode?

Question - if you are listening to broadcast FM and someone calls you on the repeater, can you keep the radio from switching back to broadcast mode so you can keep listening on the repeater? Is there a quick key for this?

I want to get into amateur radio and I have a baofeng to listen to witch is almost like yours except way way cheaper in a bad way probably. So I got this thing and I want to learn, but I'm lost like its cool. The instructions say I have an option to listen to fm radio but doesn't tell me where to select FM.
