Disease: Malignant melanoma stage 4
Details:
In Oct 2021 she has been diagnosed with malignant melanoma at that time she was 2 months pregnant as well we moved to Shaukat Khanum for treatment but they refused to take up our case saying we didn't treat melanomas and referred her to INMOL cancer hospital.
INMOL doctors board decided to continue the treatment with pregnancy at first they've planned 4 cycles of chemotherapy the review of response of treatment was re-evaluated on 3rd cycle after chemo first session tumor started to increase and bleed massively on 3rd cycle of chemotherapy INMOL doctors also refused to continue the treatment saying that chemo is not effective.
We moved home and after 10 days tumor massively bled we moved to Jinnah hospital emergency HB level dropped to 4 we stayed there for 3 months and in 3 months 40 transfusions of blood bottles had been done
Jinnah hospital doctors board decided to recsect the tumor but upon ct scan, they also denied as cancer metastized in lungs and liver as well so they decided to keep us in hospital on palliative care so that safe delivery of child could be a possible professor of surgical department Jinnah hospital wrote a call letter to inmol hospital doctors for palliative radiation therapy so that bleeding factor must be controlled. She went through 4 sessions of radiotherapy one session in a week and on the 18th of April she gave birth to a baby girl upon placenta biopsy, the disease is not transferred to the baby.
After the delivery we again move to inmol hospital for further treatment and doctors suggested that there is only one option left which is immunotherapy and we are not sure about the success rate of this treatment in melanomas as well.
We decided to continue the treatment because immunotherapy medicines are not registered in Pakistan we have to purchase the injections in black or another option is to import the injections from a foreign country
She went through one session of immunotherapy and the next session is due on 7th June. 11 sessions were prescribed by the doctor Each after 21 days.
The drug used for immunotherapy is (pembrolizumab 200mg) And the first cycle of immunotherapy cost us around 3 lac pkr.
