Lost in Translation is the most beautiful movie I've ever come across. It's a quiet, mesmerizing film. Scarlett became my favorite actor instantly after watching it.

You watch this movie which seems a little under budget, boring & meaningless. 20 years pass & you've moved up the corporate ladder, had a few romantic interests and failed relationships. Now you're 45 and single. Then one day you meet someone who is 25 and she shows interest in you. She's the amazing person and you click instantly. You feel in your mind you're still that 25 year old but your body in the mirror reminds you of the harsh reality of the passage of time was not so kind. Still you're perfect for each other except prior to your meeting she's found a job overseas and she's moving to Sweden next week. The movie all of a sudden has profound meaning. It's my story. It's genious. I've watched it 10 times and I always cry. More so because I use to stay at the Park Hyatt Tokyo and had many dinners at the New York Grill on the 52nd floor during when I was in my early 30's

"You watch it and you don't judge it" is exactly how someone should digest the movie. It doesn't highlight the fact that there's an age gap. Coppola hever underlined that anywhere in the movie, its actually plain and simple - two people who are completely lost, find each other and connect. That's it. and if anyone tries to cancel the movie now or in the future... I will be at your door.

I think the relationship gap is addressed and dealt with maturely, namely that a friendship +/- romance between these characters IS complicated and nuanced and hence worthy of exploration. The film isn't problematic because the relationship is taboo, it's good because of that taboo.

There's so much nuance to their relationship that it's difficult to even say it was more than a friendship. I think the scene in question could be interpreted as Bob not wanting to be seen in a negative light by Charlotte because he was found to be unfaithful to his wife, not because she was jealous. Bob knows his lapse in judgement ruined his credibility with Charlotte.

When I first watched this film I thought it boring and quite meaningless and irrelevant. Several years later I feel my life has parallel to the characters, having taken a holiday to Tokyo and meeting a local girl there and experiencing the best bars and restaurants including several dinners at the Park Hyatt's New York Grill on the 52nd floor. I'd dated some amazing people during my twice yearly vacations to Tokyo. Unfortunately none of my relationships lasted and 20 years on I met someone half my age working selflessly at a local cafe where my work office is located. Unfortunately she's found work abroad ironically working at an international hotel as a bartender. This movie has a lot of meaning and memories for me. Life imitates art they say.

I enjoyed the movie, but I'd have rather the characters not have committed adultery. For example, the woman could have been a widow in Japan visiting a busy photographer friend, while the man could have been working while seperated from a wife who committed adultery against him, who he wanted to forgive, and give another chance (though I'm not saying adultery is excusable, but that forgiveness is a fine theme in a film in my belief). The theme of acceptance and friendship between two individuals is wonderful. It's the unfaithfulness, and other sexual immorality- the prostitution, and stripping in strip bars, which objectify God's creations made in His divine 'image'- which upset me. Since I am a follower of Jesus those immoral themes stung spiritually.

The film has no meaning unless you experience similar. I had the sentiment the film was under budget and arthouse. But that was until I experienced similar circumstances as the characters in the film. When the movie first came out I had nil interest. Then 2 years later I traveled to Japan on my own. Got lost. Loved the culture. Hated I couldn't communicate. Had mixed feelings about the people. But then met a Japanese girl in Tokyo who had 2 years previously studied abroad in my home city and she wanted to quit her job and go back. She hated Tokyo. Ironically I hated my home town and preferred to visit her in Tokyo. So we ended up having a long distance relationship. I'd make 2 trips each year to see her and she with not as many allocated holidays would visit me once a year. I remember I'd have dinner with her on the eve of my return flight home at the New York Grill at the Park Hyatt Tokyo, as featured in the film. After a few years we went our separate ways. And 2 years ago I met someone almost half my age at a cafe bar. We got along well but for 2 things that kept us from having a relationship. The age difference and that prior to our meeting she'd applied for a job abroad at an international hotel and was successful in getting the job. Our stars were not aligned. I watch this bloody movie and it makes me cry😂 Also as a fun fact, the Suntory Hibiki whisky that Bill Murray endorses in the film use to be able to be purchased duty free for about $60. Only available in Japan for the domestic market back then. Since this film was made the popularity of Japanese whisky has ever increased with the explosion of whisky bars opening globally. That specific bottle of Suntory had been drunk to extinction due to connoisseurs recognizing Japanese make arguably better whiskey than Scotland. Today that bottle will set you back $2000 if you can find it.
