One day I put my hands on my stomach and sang this song as a prayer of the goodness of God . He gave me peace to trust him. My little girl now Four years old asks that I play her this song at bedtime. It always reminds me of those sincere prayers and the faithfulness of God

when my son passed 6 years ago at age 5, I went to my computer and searched for some peace. I found it in this exact hymn and video. In church today, I saw the choir was going to sing it as opening hymn. I shared with a choir member before mass how important this song was to me. As it it turned out, they were singing the same hymn number just from another book. They didn't sing this song. However, during the communion hymn... They stopped and turned their pages to Yahweh, You are Near and started singing it. These smallest of things people do for someone is amazing. So Christian like. My heart is bursting with gladness..

When my dad was in a hospice care house, my family was alllwed to stay in the rooms just below my dads room. Quite often I stood outside the door of the house and just kept singing a few of these songs...this being one of them, along with Be Not Afraid. I found comfort with these hymns to get me through the rought time.

Ever since we have been prohibited from singing songs with the name of Yahwah in it, this song has been missing. It is one of the best songs ever written for Catholic worship and needs to be retained.

It had something to do with the Hebrew Tetragrammaton where the God of Israel's proper name was notated as YHWH which has commonly been pronounced as Yahweh. I'm not sure how but this pronunciation violates Jewish tradition and that the name from the Tetragrammaton was never pronounced in the Christian context. I wasn't a fan of the change as I grew up listening to this particular song with Yahweh in it. "Oh Lord I know you are near" just....I don't know, doesn't do it for me. I really, really, REALLY do not like the change that was made to the Gloria from the Mass of Light.

I lost my son too on Feb 3, 2016. He lost his battle after courageously fighting for 14 days after suffering a massive stroke on Jan 21, 2016. He had just turned 41. Some days the heartache of missing him is almost unbearable so I know and understand your pain. I find comfort in believing without a doubt that he is so happy and painfree in heaven now. I look forward to the day I will see him again. Stay strong. Our kids are angels watching over us. ❤

I am playing this hymn at this weekends Mass and we are playing according to the accepted liturgy of the Roman Catholic Mass. The first line is "Yahweh, I know you are near". Not sure who is saying that Yahweh is excluded from the Mass. Our parish priest insists on strict adherance to the liturgy and we are playing the hymn as copyrighted by Dan Schutte administered by OCP.

Now and again, I think of this song, as I've heard it so often when my parents would play it in our church's music group. Even though I haven't been faithful to my Catholic upbringing, and the popularity of doubting faith and religion seem so widespread, the lyrics of this song are so true...there is nowhere and no length of time that can pass, that God will still not forget me after all these years, and bless me with life's riches. I checked the current hymnal and now have egg on my face.Yahweh has been replaced with Lord.My copyrighted music was purchased 5 years ago and is now obsolete.Glad I saw this before Sunday,Father called out another musician a couple of months ago for deviating from the Liturgy.Faithful Catholics look to the Vatican for guidance so we can have a single unified voice of praise.It is another way in which we are separated from our protestant brothers who worship in a thousand different manners.
