Yak-9 prop fighter vs DH Venom Jet 2006

The 1940s Russian Yak-9 has an Allison V 1710-11 engine while the 1950s Venom uses a Goblin Mark 3 jet. The Allison produces much more thrust but the propeller creates drag at high speeds. The jet gets additional ram air at high speeds and has little drag so it wins the race, as long as the fuel holds out. The Yak-9 is a new built aircraft from Orenberg with the Yakovlev Design Bureau providing all the original drawings. The Swiss Miss came from Switzerland as the Vampires and Venoms were sold all over the world and were operational up to the 1970s. Front Range Airport 2005.
