I use 12lb flourocarbon main line directly to a snap swivel, definitely have to play it out with the bigger ones. They'll ruin you if you're to ruff. I see guys horse them in on 50lb braid, where's the challenge in that. You guys did great playing that monster in on 10lb, great job.👍👍

Spawn sacs and skein is the way to go for these fish man! Casting is fun as it is with any fish but if you want numbers you need to use sacs or skein under a slip bobber. Skein is the best but sacs are a good back up

Robert, I hear you on catching salmon from a Kayak. I live on the great lakes, and have caught salmon every possible way. From a Kayak is an absolute blast, and completely different from a boat. They don't pull drag the same, and end up taking you on a mini 'sleigh ride'. I hope you get one on the yak! Nothing like it!

Jumps in boat with excitement--fish takes off. Hits net on side of boat--fish takes off. Slaps water with net--fish takes off. Rob was making it a real challenge for Jon to get that thing landed. Jon was starting to lose patience for a few seconds.

So agree. Gotta pay attention when your the net man. Every time he switched hands he slapped the water with the net. Then lifting the net up with the weight of the fish with the handle straight out in stead of lifting with the handle vertical. I was waiting for that net to fold. Need some net coaching there

The fish will still spawn in the river systems if they can't get upstream. May not be as many but they'll still spawn, I've seen it happen when the rivers were too low for them to jump the dams or go up the fish ladders. You are correct though, in 4 years it will be a slower than usual season, but there's still going to be fish around.
@bitefishing4 жыл бұрын
What a nice dude to offer you the rod. I noticed your lure change at around 9:30 and it looks like you are using a snap swivel. I must say, I love snap swivels. They are a game changer for quick lure change without having to cut down the leader length. I have been pleased with the strength and minimal effect they have on lure action. Are they ever going to let the fish up Strawberry Creek? What's the end goal with that?

Seems like it was snagged, they will take off forever when fouled hooked. You should take your kayak out next season. I slam them all night long inside the harbors, marinas and between the boat slips doing donuts. A lot of fun! Or cast slip floats with skien where you mark an abundance of them stacked together. It's one after another seeing that float go under, and fish after fish. I would suggest slow down your retrieve and keep your bait in the strike zone much longer, always works for me.

Trolling isn't the lazy man's way either. Sure catching one pitching lures like I always do, shore fishing, can be very productive. But trolling is more of a natural presentation to the fish. I've had days where I either got skunked or only got 1-2, and some of my buds went out trolling in the harbour and absolutely hammered them. It's also gone the other way for us shore guys and the boats got nothing and we hammered them. Everyday is different, sometimes even from morning to evening things change, so you've got to adapt. That's fishing 🎣

Wrong level, kings school at a certain depth, circle and vertically go to the surface and then dive directly down back into the school. Casting at them on the surface is a waste. You gotta find the school, the direction of circle and be exactly there when they turn on. Great times. Head up to Alaska if ya want to get the mecca of kings.
@eastalawest16334 ай бұрын
Wow great advice. Must be why I see people kill it with vertical jigs, they're actually getting the bait down to the school.

You have got to keep that net out of the water until it is time ! The biggest mistake I see people make over and over is they try to net a fish prematurely reaching out to the fish ! Wait for the fish to come to the boat so you don't catch only half the fish, and foul-hook the lure into the mesh and lose the fish ! ! ! This battle didn't have to take this long to net the salmon !!!
@YakFishField2 жыл бұрын
Have you caught many salmon from a kayak?
@johnlukasik80452 жыл бұрын
@@YakFishField I have literally caught THOUSANDS of salmon from my boat, piers, and shore along Lake Michigan ! I have never once been in a Kayak in my life ! My comment above was in regards to you fishing in the man's boat and kept scaring away the salmon having the net in the water scaring the fish away ! When you reach way out to scoop a fish too far away, you don't have the ability to scoop the full length of the fish into the net ! In your Kayak, your net WAS too small, but should have been just enough if you would have scooped the fish when it was closer to the boat !!! That's where my comment ""Boy Scouts always come prepared"" comes into play L O L I have fished Lake Michigan for more than 40 years of my life, but not in a YAK !!! I GET IT ! P.S. My BIGGEST King Salmon was caught on a GREEN & SILVER Little Cleo Spoon ( 3/4 oz. ) with a green rubber squid attached ! The fish went 28 lbs. on my 1st cast ! and I went home to smoke the fish !

@nobodyimportant694 жыл бұрын
Those regulations are extremely strict, bordering on ridiculous. In Ontario you can fish the mouths of any rivers or creeks. At certain times and sections of the waterways, it's off limits. Basically protecting the spawning grounds. On the way there , all bets are off. No snagging or foul hooked fish are allowed, no multiple hooks. In some places, no treble hooks on lures, only singles. It's like you said, you've got to piss them off to get a bite with a lure. Using roe or skeins can be more productive on the float rod.

The Great Lakes are connected to the Atlantic Ocean. Atlantic Ocean Salmon can spawn and return to the ocean unlike their Pacific relatives. So why does the Great Lakes salmon die?
@PrimalFlamesPCE4 жыл бұрын
Salmon only go out into the ocean to feed. Rivers don't provide enough for them and great lakes are basically mini oceans that have plenty of baitfish. There's no need to go out that far when you have food close by.
