This is The Roof Box Company's official video for the Yakima (Whispbar) K328 Smartfoot & through bars on raised roof rails.
Yakima (Whispbar) roof bars are without doubt, the most advanced roof bar system on the planet. They are easy to fit, stylish to look at, almost silent in use and have a negligible impact on fuel consumption.
Part of the genius of the Yakima (Whispbar) system is that the same "Smart-Foot" is used for every type of roof type, including raised roof rails, flush mounted roof rails, T-tracks, Fixpoints, clamp on systems and even cars with gutters -- its just a question of which adapter kit you use.

Despite a degree in Engineering and a Masters of Ikeaness, I would have had no chance fitting these bars without this video. Luckily I have bought from The Roof Box Company before, so I came straight here, well, after 10 minutes laughing at the written instructions provided first.

I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what the instructions actually wanted me to do. Thank you - you are a life saver. Maybe you could suggest to the company who manufactures these roof parts that they refer customers to your instruction video. Mine is a Prorack K328 but I realize the brand name means nothing, just the model number. OK so me and my laptop are now headed outside to get the job done.

Thanks so much for putting this video on. Had been trying to fix the roof racks for a few hours with no luck. The first thing you say to do is not even in the instructions that came with the roof racks so once I removed them I was able to finish the job. Next time, I think I will check You tube out first before I try doing anything, will save me so much time and energy.

Thanks for the video. I had been looking at the parts that came with the kit and comparing them to the instructions for about 20 minutes, and hadn't gotten very far until seeing the video. Now it all makes sense, except for one thing. At 3:05 the video says "Place the bars onto the vehicle's roof rails." However, at this point the written instructions say "Attach the fairings (supplied with this kit) to the back of the leg." I don't see where the fairings are attached in this videos. Am I missing something?
@roofboxcompany
@roofboxcompany 9 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for the comment! The instructions for the K328 kit do mention fitting the fairings supplied with the kit, but to type C and D crossbars only. On page 2 of the instructions you will see an image of four types of crossbar, A,B,C,D. This video shows the fitting of the K328 kit onto through bars (type B).

I have install everything, to my Crosrstrek per the instructions but for some reason the Whispbar locking covers 1:43 won't go in all the way and the key won't lock when turning. Did i do something wrong on why the locking covers won't fit and won't lock?
@roofboxcompany
@roofboxcompany 6 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for commenting. We are sorry to hear you are having difficulties fitting the locking covers. The problem you are describing usually means that the adjustment screws haven't been tightened all the way so that they sit flush with the profile of the foot. Double check each adjustment screw and tighten if needed with the tool provided. The locking covers should then work fine. We hope this helps, but if your still having trouble drop us an email and our technical team can assist you further.

@@roofboxcompany I had the same problem fitting this to a 2015 Kia Sorento - but only on the front bars. The kit was fitted (and one the car) with locking covers locked on fine when we bought them from you in April - then popped in the garage - when I went to fit yesterday the rear bars went on without a hitch, but the front ones just wouldn't allow the locking cover lock to pass through? It seemed to be worse as I tightened the cap screw (loosen it off and the cover fits easy - tighten it up and the cover is restricted again). Checked the adjustment screw (was fine anyway) and ended up fiddling with the position of the feet on the bar. They are further to the outside at the front - and it 'appeared' that the inside of the foot mechanism was impeding the lock passing through the receiving hole (I don't know how as it seems to move as a single unit)? Finally got it on, but not as happy as I could be as I had to loosen the cap screw, then tighten, fit the cover, tighten, fit the cover etc. etc. until the bar was tight and the cover fitted - but the cap screw was not as tight as it 'could' be.

i just came back to see if the bar rocks like at 3.58 or 4.08,. so this roof rack sits on those cap screws? or has that has to be lifted off like at 4.12 ?
@roofboxcompany
@roofboxcompany 10 жыл бұрын
At 3.58 and 4.08 the 70mm cap screw is loose which is why the bar rocks. Once each 70mm cap screw is tightened, both parts of the foot tighten around the profile of the rail bar as shown at 4.10 - 4.19.

getting 2.26 was tough, else paper could be followed. I hacked off the end of the allen key to fit in that gap as the provided allen key was not long enough to the the work at 2.27

Thanks for the comment. We would never recommend altering the tools provided by the manufacturer. If you need a replacement Allen key and are based in the UK please visit www.roofbox.co.uk. Fitting the self-tapping screws can be tricky but the Allen key provided is designed for this purpose and if you follow this fitting guide you shouldn’t have a problem.

The Roof Box Company thanks for replying. the allen key that came with it was a small L shaped one, not long like the one in pix, but i made sure not to overtighten ot exert too much pressure once the screw touched the rubber

Pretty sure that I used this video 18 months ago to install these because the instructions included are garbage. The video is great! Now I can't get the racks off though. The 70mm cap screw just spins but nothing moves or loosens. I think the screw corroded to the back nut and the back nut looks to just be embedded in plastic which rounded out. Anyone have any tips on how to remove this thing so that I can put it on my new vehicle??
@roofboxcompany
@roofboxcompany 6 жыл бұрын
Hello there! Sorry to hear your having some issues removing the bars! Have the bars been left on the car for the past 18 months? Whispbar do recommend that you 1)Keep the product maintained 2)Lubricate locks and adjusting screws at regular intervals 3)Remove from the vehicle when not in use a good spray of WD40 may help loosen the cap screw, but if you are really struggling please just give us a call or drop us an email and our technical team will advise you of the best solution.

Is there a video on how to remove them. It’s almost as hard as putting them on
@roofboxcompany
@roofboxcompany 6 жыл бұрын
Hello! i'm afraid we don't have a video for removing the bars. Removal is just the reverse of the fitting process - Remove the locking covers, loosen the 70mm cap screws, loosen the adjustment screws and slide the feet out enough to remove from the roof rails. If the bars have been fitted to your vehicle for a long period of time and you are having trouble removing, a good spray of WD40 on all the adjustment and cap screws should make things easier.

The Roof Box Company Thanks for replying. My rack is brand new, I’ve not had it on the car driving yet. I find the inner grip is easy to move. But when it comes to loosening the other screws that you push like a button to release the grips that are on the outside of the rails, that’s where it keeps getting stuck. I find they move easy when putting on but cease up when removing.

@roofboxcompany 6 жыл бұрын
As you can see in the video 4.09-4.18, the outer edge of the clamp is pulled tight in to the roof rail for a secure fit. When removing make sure to loosen the inside clamp to allow enough room to remove from the roof rail. Then loosen the adjustment screw a max of 10 turns using the allen key provided. Push the adjustment screw in as far as you can and whilst holding this in, use both hands to pull the foot towards you, usually a short sharp pull will do the trick.
