The Berkely Gulp crabs work really well here for surf fishing! Maybe they had a lot because they actually sell well? I'm not sure if they work down there though!

I got that package in the thumbnail. They dry out on the hook and you have to cut them off. Haven’t caught anything on them yet, but we’re just getting started.

Those gulp are like one of the best baits for flounder trout striper and drum in Virginia also have gotten big croakers blues Spanish ribbon fish toadfish they catch every predator fish

Bass eat crabs here in Mississippi/Louisiana. And I catch them right in the same water as the redfish and trout. Also rig it sideways. Crabs swim sideways. 🦀
