Yakuza: Like A Dragon - Kiryu Boss Fight (Dub)

The Legendary Dragon of Dojima returns from hiding to test Ichiban and his friends to see if they are worthy of the info he has, beforehand Kiryu stops Kasuga from nearly beating a one of Omi's thugs half to death Kiryu was going to give him the info on Aoki's next move but decides not to after what he just witnessed, Which leads us into this fight.
In this fight Kiryu harkens back to his styles from Yakuza 0 using Rush, Beast, and Dragon of Dojima Styles
He hits hard but this fight is manageable his scariest phase is his beast phase with his barrel attack which can hit twice and take out your party members easily, he is also weak to ice attacks he resists everything else
Fun fact about this fight if you have either Saeko of Eri in the party Kiryu won't even attack them unless you hit him with a physical attack on his last phase he will tiger drop them
Darryl Kurylo returns as the voice of Kiryu in the english dub (he voice Kiryu in the original Yakuza english release)

When "blocking" in Beast Mode, he can directly take on EXPLODING CANNONBALLS without any kind of pain/movelag, making it possible to input a move immidiately after and takes 95% less damage.

The out of breath may be more out of old age rather than actual exhaustion from the fight. Kiryu has huge stamina reserves and the most greatest showing I can think of is probably the hundreds of tojo clan members he fought single handedly in yakuza 5 when he was only the age of 44. In this game he's 50. Taking out kasuga and his party wouldn't be that strenuous for him, not even their most experienced fighters like joon gi han (y7 version) would stand much of a chance since much of the tojo legend's like majima and saejima as well as kiryu stated they were holding back.

Respect to the localization team from VAs, to voice direction, and especially the animators for editing the lip movements to sync up with the English voices. So many dubs fall apart due to off lip movements despite the stellar casting (Kill la Kill on the Nintendo Switch being one example).

Rumor has it they were already recording lines with Darryl for Infinite Wealth but scrapped him as soon as someone realized that a KZbinr with 1+ Million subs had applied, that's why Yong talked about "missing" the audition. It would explain why all the English VA got delayed in Gaiden and will be delivered in a future DLC download since they would have had to get rid of everything they worked on and start fresh with Yong Yea. I still think they should've left Kiryu as "The 'Dragon of Dojima'", as that's the only name he's given in the game (when Saejima says it). Kiryu's name is never mentioned in-game, so Ichi wouldn't know it and neither would new fans to the series. This would keep his identity a 'secret' and push new fans to play the other games too.

The dub in Yakuza 1 wasn't bad, but the script and direction for English were so far removed from Yakuza that it's jarring today. They tried really hard to turn it into Mafia or something. Thank God they tried again with 2 and nailed it. They could've easily given up on Western releases after 1.

@@moiqtheplayer well. Rush Style is fast paced like boxer and parry enemies like Tanimura’s. Beast is basically “THIS MAN HAS A BIKE! RUN AWAY!” which is stupidly powerful somehow. The only weird thing about Kiryu’s fight is both his Brawler and Dragon of Dojima Style. Brawler’s moveset in here is the same moveset as Kiryu’s Dragon Engine combat in both 6 and Kiwami 2. Yet, they give Brawler’s moveset from Zero and Kiwami to Kaito from Judgement. Dragon of Dojima style in here is the same moveset from past games excluding 6 and Kiwami 2.
