Yakuza 6, the first ever Dragon Engine game, was a massive revolution for the series, vastly improving many things from previous games such as the graphics, quality of life features, and funny ragdoll clips. However, some aspects of this game aren't as beloved. For example, I hate Haruto (see thumbnail).

Not if you want to platinum the game. I had to play the same level over and over so many goddamn times just to get the points for the completion... I'm not a Yakuza completionist, but I wanted to do it this time as a kind of send-off to Kiryu and that minigame was the most obnoxious. Only Puyo Puyo was more annoying, and mainly due to how rage inducing it was, but at least that one was challenging

What's really cool is that with the new engine, they put their blood, sweat, tears, and cum into making the story cutscenes look fucking amazing. They didn't need to make such delicate shots like the baby formula in the opening but they did. Definitely the most beautiful Dragon Engine game in the series, and it hasn't gotten close to this quality again until Lost Judgment, and judging by trailers, the next two games are gonna either replicate the Lost Judgment standard, or maybe even look as good as Y6 again.

Kiryu's DE moveset seems to be more inclined towards Crowd Control, fitting since DE fights usually have way more enemies but it's a bit annoying having these elaborate drawn out animations when, with the previous moveset it was snappy, fast and responsive. I think the grabs exemplify this the most.

I think the previous moveset handled crowds better just by virtue of actually being fast and responsive, although I feel like a lot of issues stem from general changes in the dragon engine's combat itself.

I really wonder what the hell was going through RGG's mind putting a lot of unique Tiger abilities but thinking that Crane is powerful enough as is and doesn't deserve anything else. It was nice to see Yuya make a small cameo appearance and show he was still important to kiryu. Nice to see date have a bigger role after his appearance minutes were declining with each game since yakuza 3. Wish they showed kido from Y4 or even Shinada for that baseball sub story at the very least

Yeah I disagree with most of the criticisms people have for it. This video compliments the new engine for the seamless interior transitions, but then mostly criticizes the combat while ignoring the implication that fights can spill into convenience stores and restaurants, and people can do flying through the glass of a storefront. Also fights are completely seamless themselves and no longer trap you in a small instance of the map. People hate that your don't get multiple fighting styles, but I think apart from Majima in 0, one or two out of the four feel a bit useless. And I just don't understand why the story needed to be some big dramatic send-off just because it was supposed to be Kiryu's last. And no one ever says the story is actually bad, because it's not, but just that it's not specifically what they wanted it to be. And like, Beat Takeshi is a fucking main character in this story, how can you gloss over that?? Some people discount this game for what is isn't more than they give credit for what it is.

Yakuza 6 has probably the strongest cast of original characters in the series Someya, Joon Gi Han, Big Lo and triads, the Hirose family, the yomei captain I forgot the name of. There's so many interesting characters

*spoilers* I still find it crazy that this was supposed to be the end of the Kiryu saga and previous allies such as Majima, Akiyama and Saejima did not show up at the final battle against Iwami.

I totally agree, the "end" of the Kiryu saga lacks scale and fan service. Not just that but they overall wasted a really good concept (Haruka growing up, figuratively and literally) by implementing it what feels like a game or two too early, and in a really flimsy way that's kinda half assed and doesn't feel like they cared about it just so they could have that final cutscene. And all of this only for RGG to go back on their intent to make it Kiryu's last game, and only for Gaiden's trailer to ruin what little meaning 6's story had left at all (Kiryu's family being threatened once again). At this point, I genuinely prefer to consider 4 or 5 the true ending of the series, 4 because it leaves room for a nice happy ending where everybody lives happily ever after, and 5 because it's emotional and dramatic. 6 had its moments, but overall felt more like a tech demo for the Dragon Engine than anything else.

man, i really dunno. I don't think we need more of something that was really a perfect small arc. I wouldn't mind a passing mention, but IMO Shinada's story is already very nice and complete enough. In general Yakuza should really make more callbacks instead of just hugging yakuza 0 tight for its references as if there's no other game they could bring up. I like what they did in 0 itself - for newcomers they showed up a bunch of characters and events that invoke pretty much just surface level reactions, but for people already very familiar with the series they're nice acknowledgements (Teen Ryuji, baby Daigo and fortune teller stuff). They're not massive appearances that take the whole story, but they're a nice little nod. From technical standpoint it'd require getting rights from VAs for what's essentially a very tiny thing. oh, for anyone actually reading the comments - get a mod that brings back japanese exclusive tracks. Tatsuro Yamashita's music fits in this game so well that i get teary-eyed when i listen to the songs by themselves.

Nice video! Happy to see you talk about Yakuza 6. I was really disappointed with the combat system when I played it for the first time and it made me dislike the game for some time, since combat is the most important thing for me in the Yakuza series. I used to hate how weak Kiryu felt compared to other games and how most of cool stuff was locked behind that extreme heat mode, and because of weird design choices the game was just really easy. But on the other hand, I love the QoL stuff that game introduced, I love Kiryu's look and I think 6 has some of the best OST in the series. Plus Onomichi looks beautiful!

I have a big soft spot for this game. This was the first Yakuza game I beat. This was the game that got me hooked on the Yakuza series. I did play Yakuza 0, but never beat it. I just stopped playing it when it switched to Majima, and just traded it back to GameStop.(idk why I did this, it was a dumb decision) Fast forward a year or two, and I'm browsing in GameStop again just looking for whatever, and I see this game on the shelf, and I'm like "oh Yakuza, that game was kinda fun, I think I'll play this new one" and my god, am I glad I stuck with it Such a good game, with such great characters, great music, great content, just such a fucking great time. Made me feel like a kid again. This game will always have a special place in my heart ngl. I'm finally going back to Yakuza 0, and working my way through it, and Lost Judgment, and those two are phenomenal as well. I legitimately don't know wtf I was thinking when I just stopped playing Yakuza 0.

While Y6 is not my favorite entry, I actually still really like it despite some of the controversial changes. Yes there are definitely some aspects that are questionable in the story and combat department, but it is a pretty important game to this series. This was pretty much the end of the classic era of Yakuza after 6. Plus, for the most part, it was a good way to conclude Kiryu's saga.

Great description of combat. RGG is either being lazy or not taking the combat to full potential. They removed leg holds such an awesome yakuza mechanic but just tossed aside. Slams removed and only spinning finishing holds which are useless on bosses as they take no damage.

It feels like Yakuza 6 overshot with how many enemies to put on screen so to compensate they added Extreme Heat Mode so Kiryu had some AOE and armour. Fighting 10+ enemies who can all stagger you AND you don't have Beast's hyper armour? Yeah they needed a quick fix because the combat in this game is just pain if you aren't in heat mode

I loved the mechanics they introduced in 6 but only in kiwami 2 for some reason. A lot of gameplay stuff in 6 just feels off while kiwami 2 feels more natural, like they knew what they were doing with 6. I love the dragon engine, but not how 6 handled it.

I actually feel the exact opposite. K2 is much smoother and has more options, but charge attacks being implemented in the middle of your combo and extreme heat mode being a more major mechanic (and less OP) was more fun for me. Also, 6 has the super dropkick.

Yakuza 6, I feel, is kinda in a weird position with most people. I personally enjoyed it, and I'll admit the combat is a bit weird at the start but as I played it started to click to me and I actually kinda like it a lot. Evasion strike in this game is also just pretty fun. I think what they were going for is because of all the enemies, Kiryu's new moveset is based on crowd control which is why he has a lot of sweeping attacks and his throws are the way they are. Also maybe it was just me but I found it easier to do combos on the bosses in this game (and K2) then in other games. The story, I do like and think it's good but I do admit I wish there were more legacy characters; I do like a lot of the new characters though. Also this game was actually the first time I've ever cried at a video game. Other games would have me feel like I'm about to cry but with 6, seeing Kiryu walk away from everything he loves just made me sad and broke me.

If I had to guess why there's no recap for Yakuza 0 in Yakuza 6 despite it being the previous game, I'd say it was because Yakuza 0 was the previous game and it actually sold well in the West. At that moment in time, if you wanted to play another Yakuza game then you had to get a PS3. For PS4 players there was only 0 and 6.

On PS4, you can in fact save anywhere in Kiwami 1. I think it's universal.

Well I said that you can't because someone said that you can't in an older video of mine and a bunch of people agreed with them, but now everyone's saying the opposite so I am very upset now lol I don't know what to believe :(

Please stop releasing bangers back to back and take a vacation One thing tho the ragdoll physics and more are bugged in the PC ports of Kiwami 2 and 6 when running at 60FPS They actually fixed this from LAD and onwards on PC But with 6 and Kiwami 2 it gets worse the higher the Framerate is

I wouldn’t say they “fixed” it, but they just significantly improved it. Sometimes enemies can go flying at high frame rates in Judgment and Lost Judgment for example, I mean Judgment released with a few high frame rate bugs. It’s just more above 120FPS that you notice it, and it’s less noticeable now. Kiwami 2 at like 150fps+ is hilarious though
