I am speechless... Without your videos I would sound like newbie for few years. With your tutorials, last time I give my friends listen to my song (without telling them!) and they thought its radio hit! Thanks Alice, I know that you don't want to work with "collab bro/sis" guys but I have amazing melodies so maybe one day we will do some hits! If not, still I am very thankful for all your work. Good luck! 😃

Okay the ambiance/depth trick is cool. I've done the same w/ just a short reverb to put the mix in a room, but this approach takes it up a few notches.
@FurkanTopal
@FurkanTopal Жыл бұрын
I love witnessing how music is endless and learning is literally infinite! This depth part is really f*cking logical! I was doing that with adding texture and according to the genre by adding some crowd fxs which also works, and I was adding freezed reverb of the main lead under it but using return channel with this way, I hadn't think of and it is really a gamechanger tip. And it gives me new ideas like creating automation of that return channel to manipulate that depth intermittently and imagine how it could be so catchy! The other thing I learned from this video is that I didn't know Pro-MB has a dynamic sidechain function. Lately, I was producing a song and I was adding two different dynamic Pro-Q3 parameters for whenever the vocal comes in, to compress the high-mid and high frequencies where the vocal's frequency is busy but this MB does that thing with more practical way without needing a second fx plugin. Damn. That was a precious information. Thank you for sharing these legendary tips Alice! Much love! ♥

Another useful video! I've found that saturation tools are critical. I've also found that airwindows makes a wide variety of saturation tools that are great when used in the right circumstances. I recommend Chris' plugins. It takes some time to understand them (no GUI at all), but there's a freedom you get from not looking at an interactive display. You listen instead of looking all the time. Thanks for another great video!

Nice video, thanks! The pro mbs attack & release times are program dependent so whatever you set the dials to is gonna be added ontop of their automatic gain reduction/makeup. In the example with the sidechained "beeps" you can clearly hear that this "added" release is too long, so with percussive sounds you can easily use the fastest settings.

Dont do that, as you said it yourself you dont like listening to noise so why take reference from it? One of those KZbin tips no pro would ever use exept when measuring acoustics. We are making music so take your favorite track of the genre as a reference and compare it to your own production soloing different frequency bands. This will help much more, promised!

Another brilliant video! Thank you so much Alice! One question please, what is the purpose of the limiter after the transient shaper? Can’t we just decrease the level? I’m having trouble to understand usage of limiters outside the master channel 😅 thanks in advance and much love ❤️
@gutshisalamanca1191
@gutshisalamanca1191 Жыл бұрын
A big part of mixing is managing your dynamics in order to create potential for loudness in the mastering stage. If you have ever seen the waveform of an untreated, recorded snare drum, you will witness a relatively thin sound but peaks near 0dB FS. What you now have to do, is to gradually shave off some db here and there (single tracks, busses, master) in order to push back those transients closer to the "meat" part of the waveform of your track. This is called the "crest factor" and it is showing the ratio of peak values to the effective value of you waveform. The Reason why she does not just slap one limiter on the master, is that it is not as transparent as managing the dynamics beforehand. Cheers!
@gerasimos-dimitriostheotok7071
@gerasimos-dimitriostheotok7071 Жыл бұрын
@@gutshisalamanca1191 thanks so much for your response! I totally understand the purpose of managing dynamics. What I actually don’t understand, is why to use a limiter instead of a compressor? In other words, when to use a limiter instead of a compressor? Thanks in advance!
@gutshisalamanca1191
@gutshisalamanca1191 Жыл бұрын
@@gerasimos-dimitriostheotok7071 there are multiple reasons I would opt for a compressor over a limiter. Shaping the envelope, the "sound" (mostly in analog models), Glueing or pumping & rythm. However if you ONLY want to attenuate the signal and shave off peaks, a limiter, or sometimes a clipper for that matter, is one of the most transparent ways of doing that (reasonable amounts obv.) Also dont forget that a limiter is basically a compressor with very fast settings and a ratio higher than 20:1
@gerasimos-dimitriostheotok7071
@gerasimos-dimitriostheotok7071 Жыл бұрын
@@gutshisalamanca1191 yes that makes a lot of sense! So basically in this case Alice is using the limiter only to catch the peaks! Thanks a lot 🙏
