@montana2strokeracer Жыл бұрын
Hey Robert, not sure how much longer I will be able to. I will as long as I can, but there really do get to be a lot, and with about 350 emails a week. That takes away from shop time, and that is what everyone watches the channel for. I try to stay at one hour a day for emails and comments. But editing and uploading videos takes around 4 to 6 hours. So that basically cuts a little over a day out of my shop time a week. Yeah, right eat at home!! LOL you shouldn't have to worry about things like that. This place is a really well know and popular place across the USA. How's the Suzuki and Yamaha coming?

Amazing how it started first kick! I heard faint rattling and was wondering what was up. Your explanation nails it and explains a lot of why I've heard so many sound that way. You bore to the precise dimension the manufacturer wants. Shops don't care, don't want call backs and take the easy way out. That's why I think your bores are the best I've seen!

Hey Wally, thanks for the kind words, yes, the TS125 that I restored about a year ago was emerald green. I did the best matching I could. I liked it and so did the customer. But it was not spot on by any stretch. I did just that with the Gatorade and lots of water. Feel almost myself again.

Wow!!! Never knew tanks had so many layers. Primer, sealer, stripe color, base silver, final color and then clear? Looks better than what I've seen so called "pros" do!! Well done!!! Painting looks complicated, but its on my list to learn.
@frankdillon6127 Жыл бұрын
yeah, Dale knows how to paint for sure, back in the day seems i would just patch,primer sand and spray. the guys that know, use sealers, and silver/sometimes gold under the base color sounds strange but it makes the colors pop, then the Clear coat to protect and shine the base paint. years ago to get the show quality shine it took 30 coats of hand rubbed paint to get the same shine that modern clear coat provides.
@montana2strokeracer Жыл бұрын
Hey Jim, yeah next time you sand one, just pay attention to the layers. You have to kind of reverse engineer the process in order to even get close to mixing paint. Thanks

Hey Dale great video and its good to see you back in the saddle. I had that 1969 CT 1 and rode the wheels off that bike . The top end does sound a bit loose . Excellent job once again Dale. A pro painter once told me to keep the trigger depressed when spraying back and forth. It keeps any nastiness from building up in the gun. It was really hard to get used to for a hack like me but it really cut down on inconsistencies in painting.
@montana2strokeracer Жыл бұрын
Hey Dave, thanks for the tip, I have seen painters do that. I am such a beginner at this this stuff. I will try it next time I have a test panel out.
@jackheinemann1994 Жыл бұрын
Up the Air just a tad when your spraying the clear coat, It''ll really help smooth out the finish and cut back on the orange peel. When you watch the pros laying down the clear there is a tremendous amount of fog when theyre laying down the clear, a smaller tip gun helps with atomisation too. It just comes down to experience... and lots of expensive and time consuming mistakes @@montana2strokeracer

Great job sir, I hope I will be as skilled as you someday. I’ll be repainting my ‘71 AT1-C tank again soon, it turned out terrible compared to your work and I got the whole color and size of the stripe wrong, but I just ordered all new correct enough paint, clearcoat and everything. So I’ll be painting it next week I think, but I also need to sort out some pin holes near the top of the tank, so I was thinking that some JB Weld will be fine, as I seen @Garage2Trail, do it on his ‘81 TS185.
@montana2strokeracer7 ай бұрын
Thank you, my friend, my painting is nowhere close to professional. I am self-taught and do a lot of stuff wrong. But most of the time I get it done. I just accept less than professional work. The hobby is all about having fun, if you get too serious about a run or some pin holes it just starts to be no fun anymore. But that being said.... that is how you learn. I would just pick up a small tube of spot puddy for the pin holes, you can get it at the hardware store for just a few bucks. I just have no experience with JB weld for that purpose, it may work fine.
@scotte36987 ай бұрын
@@montana2strokeracerYour welcome, as I’m writing this I just put on a second coat of some white filler / sealer and it definitely doesn’t look perfect far from it, but it definitely looks presentable and good enough for me especially since I done it. But I just now seen your comment and I used the JB weld and it looks like it's gonna do a good job, very strong repair I reckon. But I would've used the spot putty if I seen your comment. The JB Weld is quite hard to sand down flat and i was worried about sanding the bare metal too much so I have an obvious bump on the tank but the main goal is so I can have a full tank of gas without it leaking.

Looks great Dale! Nice work as always! Hey!! You've committed to doing my AT1 (2) MX in RED!! COOL!! Out of the tons of bikes I've had, I have SUCH a soft spot for the old AT1MX. I'm doing a 2000 YZ125 now (for myself), but I'll always love the old AT's. I sure hope we get to see some riding vids of your red one. Say, what made all those small black smudges on that one panel of the garage door, and what's the triangular box all taped shut in the corner during painting? (Nosy me...) So sorry about the food poisoning. Major bummer!! Hope you feel better!! Again, great work on the CT! Take care, Robert & Sofia

Hey Robert, yes, its red as we speak. That YZ sounds like a great project.... where's the videos! Hi Dale. I really like your videos. You inspire confidence that I can do this.I have a similar project in mind. Thinking about building up a 175 engine from a AT1E motor. Is this possible? I have a bunch of parts that I could use. I know the devil is always in the details..Is it possible to use a 175 head on a 125 bottom end? Thanks for all you do for us.
@montana2strokeracer4 ай бұрын
Hi Tracy, yes, the video series that you commented on here, is just that, Yamaha AT1 to CT1 is this transformation you refer to. There is a playlist showing most of the details. The only real difference is the engine. You will need the crankshaft, or at least the mag side of the crank, the cylinder, the head, piston, pin, bearing, and the flywheel magneto setup from a CT1. You can convert without changing the crankshaft and original ignition, but you probably will not be able to use the electric start.

@montana2strokeracer Жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, I can't give you the numbers on the Candy green, it was mixed by Marblesmotors.com in Texas. He is tight lipped about HIS formula. I have had this paint for over 10 years, waiting for this project. As far as the other paints, if you want the codes, I used, I would be happy to give them to you. Just email me at dsweger@bresnan.net Really though you can use any pure white and silver base coats, and 2K clear coat with catalyst. Just keep everything urethane, I just go to my local paint store and look at their chip book. Believe me nothing I used is special and most I have had on the shelf for a very long time.
