How to display Yamaha digital outboard (F70LA) engine data on Raymarine Axiom 9" MFD? using Yamaha gateway 6YG-8A2D0-00. (NMEA 2000) and Yamaha Command Link Plus
Why do Command Link to display engine data? (1) no more clutter gauges on my dashboard and (2) future upgrade possibility.
2 things to improve later: (1) upgrade to a fly-by-wire control system to use Yamaha Command Link to troll for fish to be gas efficient. (2) Auto-pilot for trolling. Subscribe and stay tune.
Open Yamaha app in Raymarine Axiom MFD (LightHouse 3.10 update) and if you see error message then you need to go to "Settings" boat details to select Yamaha engine and exit the "Settings". Re-open the Yamaha app and it should work.
The engine data will take a couple minutes to fully display. First you should see vertical trim bar started flashing up and down in gold color, and then you will see voltage appear and engine hour and everything else. It is nice so I can see RPM, oil pressure, fuel flow, etc. on my Raymarine 3D fishfinder. No multiple meters to cluster the already crowded small dashboard space. It is nice to be able to see engine data in an instant instead of waiting for dealers to tell me. Fuel flow will give me a better idea how efficient I am running the motor, how much gas I have left or miles I can still go with the fuel I have left in the gas tank and remind me when it is due for service oil change etc..
The Command Link Hub has 1 Red power port, 2 BUS ports and 3 device ports. Red Power plug will need a 12v power line plug into it. 1 terminator cap needed to go into 1 of the 2 BUS ports. If you have another CL hub, then you will need a BUS wire to plug the second BUS port. Otherwise leave it uncap. Gateway has 2 terminals. 1 will plug into 1 of the 3 device ports on the hub, 1 will plug into the NEMA 2000 T connector. 2nd of the 3 CL hub will have a pigtail plug in from Yamaha outboard engine side. the 3rd device port does not need a device cap (optional). There should be 3 T-connectors in NMEA 2000 network. first T will have the Gateway connect to it, second T should have a 12v power connect to it. Third T should be connected to Axiom MFD NMEA 2000 port which is attached to Axiom MFD power port. There are many wires and components involved in the circuit, so engine data like engine hours, RPM will display after a couple minutes in the initial setup (power on) so be patient with it. The vertical trim bar in the Yamaha app will first start flashing in yellow and going up and down. The battery voltage, engine hours, RPM etc. will show after 15 seconds. If you see trim bar flashing green then it is waiting for you to complete the circuit. You may be missing 1 cap terminator (only 1 is needed) at the CL BUS port or your 12v power is missing in your circuits etc.
