So it turns out that there are most if not all of the old effect still on the 670, but they are obscured behind some hidden folders. I don't quite remember how I figured out how to access them, but I was able to get all the legacy effects and they worked as they did in the past (full keyboard with pitch shifting).

@@reygallegos1 So it turns out that you can save custom sounds to an external storage medium, and I was able to extract a bunch of these "hidden" sounds. If you would like I can make these publicly available along with a tutorial on how to get them to show up on the keyboard. I would highly recommend getting this keyboard regardless, since it's an absolute killer in its price range.

as a keyboardist it's actually not bad at all..... the piano sounds and the eps are incredible.... It sounds way better than the 650 and I have the 650.... Hopefully I'll be purchasing this keyboard the 670 sometime this week

Listen to your own review. 9/10ths whining on about SFX and 1/10th saying what a good keyboard it is but nothing as to why it is a good keyboard -- as in they have packed a huge amount into a great keyboard at a very competitive price. Do you know what, I can live without SFX. I have had mine 6months now and never even bothered to investigate SFX or the Drum kit. I would rather play proper music. I have the 660 and also upgraded to the 670 so I don’t have to take my board where I play every week. I totally agree, love the new board but the special effects sound locations is a real let down. Looking forward to an update as I have the same issue. It’s the only thing I can say is a real disappointment with this upgrade. Only one note for that particular special effect sound causes a huge problem especially when you have to hunt for it

Being unable to access the XG, GM2, and GS voices kinda broke my heart, but, not all hope is lost. I was messing around with the 670 in Guitar Center, playing with some 3rd party styles when one of said 3P styles' OST loaded up an XG voice, and I thought, "Hmmmm....". I'll have to workshop this a little bit here and there, but the but thing here is that I was able to somehow trick the 670 into loading an XG voice. And I want to one day see if it's possible to do the same for the GM2 and GS voices.

Its a great keyboard. I love the sound it puts out. Heavy, so very sturdy on the stand. Performed/recorded all the music for a commercial using this the day i got it, and client was thrilled. Its a great keyboard for the $$. Every product has its strengths. In my opinion, this is geared more towards piano/organ players, while offering a ton more. It aint my Roland Synrh... but its not supposed to be.

How to connect external speakers to the DGX-670? Is it enough to place a TRS stereo connector with mono L and R division at the headphone output? or will the sound be of poor quality? It really seems crazy to me that the dgx-670 does not have an L and R output and this is the worst of the limitations of this keyboard.

you can use powered speakers like a set of mackies for example they come with 2 ways to connect one of which is rca to 1/8 stereo jack so youll need an adapter but it will work what do you want to hook upto

I love this keyboard. The keybed feels great and because the cabinet is good quality, you don't get the knocking, thumping sound you hear on lightweight models of syths. A more heavier cabinet of good quality. The feel of the keys is important, and this gives you that acoustic piano feels. There are too many good features other than what you mention. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE SYTH SOUNDS IN THE MODX SERIES WITH THIS KEYBED AND CABINET. Otherwise, one needs to spend 4,000 dollars to get it all. Can you get sounds from the computer via the USB?

Allow me to give my own hot take on the DGX 670. I LOVE this piano. However, theres no headphone jack on the front. I can't natively use an expression pedal with this. The onboard effects, as great as they may be, are nonfunctional to the input of the audio in jack on the back. There is no A,D,S,R for tweeking sound patches. OK now lets talk about some positives. This sucker has 256 not max polyphony meaning you can straight up rock out on this sucker and not miss any notes, even when stacking sounds. The sounds are mostly outstanding for this price range. The built in speaker system works well and has decent enough punch to have fun while not upsetting your family or neighbors. Its not perfect, but its no pushover either.

This was not designed to be a whiz-bang synth keyboard. Yamaha kb is in the genre of weighted digital piano WITH a ton of added features. I think adding too much is where they got thin on the execution.. but studio musicians will primarily use the core features and not worry too much about synth unless that is their area of expertise... like writing content for TV commercial gigs and the like... in that case they'd want some customizable sounds that can be easily imported, mixed and manipulated, again this is NOT the instrument to do such things as it's mainstay-- maybe a HIGH END casio, roland synth kb.

I have a PSR where they legit printed icons above the keys for keyboard percussion. Can't get lost with the PSR-90, and there's no need for disgusting stickers. I guess they thought that the printed symbols were too unprofessional, but what other option is there? I definitely do like having the sound be uniform across all keys, because then you can layer it, but you could probably also use pads. Only keyboards I recommend for that are from Kurzweil. If you're fine buying a toy, then you could get Casio Superdrums.

I've had mine about a year now. The lights are the wrong way around; Green for off and red for on, makes no sense! Also, those lights are too bright/misplaced, I can't read the writing above those buttons. And the menu system just sucks, not at all intuitive; wheel, cursor keys, enter, exit, number keys, tab... Jeez, what a mess! Screen should be twice the size for what it tries to display. But, I love it. Keys feel great and the sounds are phenomenal. If you don't have one, get one. It's just got some annoying quirks.

well i am Gen X Dude and there is stuff i just like and FYI alot of modern Music uses a lot of the effects but i guess you didn't know that and that's ok youll learn once something is gone and you need it youll have to hunt down the shit you need.. what yamaha did here was a disgrace

@KevinMillard68 That's good if you get some use out of them. Music producers generally use effect libraries, synths, etc., we don't use GM effects from keyboards. I think that's why Yamaha doesn't keep these around/working.

Honestly, you're right, this is very frustrating. They should really fix the SFX. I have a 255-YPT Yamaha keyboard, and the sound effects were played by all notes. There is the main note, (C5 in my case) that has the original sound effect, and if you use the lower keys, they have the low audio sound effect, and if you used the higher keys, they have the high audio sound effect. So yes, I can see how this can be a problem, and YAMAHA should fix it.

The thing that suck is that most of the sounds are too low and impossible to even play. Then the piano lower keys too bassy and too loud. It's great for practice but for live gigs it is horrible. I had to buy a Roland Juno. Yamaha need to do better. The customer has spend too money much on thier product.

not sure what your talking about but i have no problems at all nore has anyone else mentioned the problems your talking about you must have had either a defective unit or you messed wiht some settings you didnt know how to get out of , with all yamaha keyboards and pianos all you need to do is hold down the far right white key and keep holidng while you power on the keyboard and it resets the entire machines to factory specs, was your a on floor demp unit because that can also explain the problems as well you had other then screwing up settings.. this is also a touch sensitive keyboard as well so the lighter the touch the quieter the harder the touch the louder it is realitive to the volume setting of course the speet spot on this is 2pm position for the volume dial, for live gigs you have ot hook into a pa in large areas and for sure any area with a band.

I wouldn't choose a keyboard whether it had good or clunky special effect. It's all a gimmick that I never used in any song I created. Hats off to Riders on the Storm, but there are always outliers. Forget the gimmicks... They are irrelevant. If you want reliable drums and special effects, use a Daw,

I owned a Yamaha workstation years ago that was killer, but I wanted a better piano sound. Tried a few of their portable grands in the past, and trade offs were just too much, for a slightly more piano feel, and slightly better voicing. Now that the old workstation is gone, I ordered this based solely on reviews. Couldn’t find one at a local store to try. So I’m crossing my fingers that I don’t feel the same limitations I had with previous digital grands. But based on reviews I’ve seen, it seems it has everything I need. But that some things are buried deep in menus.
