I have owned 30 bikes I'm life , but in 2005 I bought and FJR and it is the very best of the lot . It does everything well . It's fast comfortable, handles very well , smooth. Mine has 70,000 miles and still runs good and I have never touched the engine . just oil, filter , tires and brake pads. When I can I am going to buy another one!

My 04 FJR has about 28k (no valve adj. yet) as I ride other bikes. In the 70k have you had the valves adjusted? I know it's a big expensive job and they say it rarely get's out of adjustment. Thanks for any feedback.

No I have never even changed the plugs. I just fired it up after sitting all winter in the garage and it runs great! One thing , if you live in the north where it gets so cold, that helps any bike, is a heated garage, which I have.

Nice review. Picked up a new-to-me pristine liquid silver 2010 earlier this year with 2200 miles on the clock, owned by a car mechanic. I've always rode naked bikes, so I prefer keeping the windscreen in the lowest position for rides under 100 miles so far. It's not flashy, but does look sportier riding around the city without the bags. It's top heavy, but only when moving it around in the garage. This bike works perfectly for my year-round riding in Los Angeles.

have a 2007 FJR 1300 with the cheater clutch lol, it you can shift whenever you want and it goes. This is my first bike and is currently paving the way for my second bike. I love my FJR, there is no incline or gear the engine can handle, the torque this thing produces has saved me many times when i needed to get out of a sticky. My used FJR was handed to me with 74000 miles and now it currently sits at 76400 miles. When I am done tearing this one up, I will buy another. These bikes are bulletproof, the only way to break an FJR 1300 is lack of maintenance or a wreak.

The seat on the FJR becomes very uncomfortable after about 200 miles. So, unless you are an experienced rider who often takes extra long rides and has an iron butt, then you may want to have a different type of seat material which would help your butt stay the course much longer.

The saddlebags hold an impressive amount of stuff. My only real complaint is that the handlebars have a pretty annoying buzz , and on longer rides I get a little finger numbness. I replaced the stock grips with gel grips and added 16 ounce bar ends, which helped a little. Then I got some good gloves and changed up my hand position a little so that the handle grip contacts the point where my fingers meet my palm instead of running right across my palm, and that alleviated the radial nerve paresthesia I was getting. Otherwise, I can see me riding this fine machine for quite some time.

I get the same vibration in my hands and they go numb quickly. I put on heavy bar ends, and a helibar riser and that has helped. I use the cruise control to relax my hands and get the blood running back into them. I try not to squeeze the handle bars much and ride very relaxed and that has helped. I wear decent gloves which I'm sure helps a bit. Twowheelobsession has a video here on youtube where he runs a test of the handle bar vibration. It's an interesting video to watch and it's easy to see how much the heavy bar ends help to reduce handlebar vibrations. Have you picked up any other tricks on reducing vibration now that you have been riding for years? Thanks

John Ford , I agree with you. I love the FJR and the only reason I hesitate to buy it is because it does not have DCT. I am hesitating to buy the new Goldwing because of DCT even though it is a bit too big for my taste.
@johnc8910
@johnc8910 5 жыл бұрын
DCT is not likely to happen on an FJR. I realize MamaYama managed to shoehorn a six speed transmission into the engine with only minor case mods, but I do not see how they could fit a DCT without going to a clean sheet of paper.

The FJR is more refined and more comfortable on long distances (IMHO) The Kawi has a tiny bit more throttle in the lower gears they say but I couldn't tell. I have an 07 FJR and would not trade it for a new one because it is my ideal bike with out all the additional accessories. She's fast as can be, nimble in the twists, great for long trips (though I do have to stop every hour and walk a bit because I have bad knees, but not because of the bike), and I also happen to think the design, which hasn't changed much in years, is possibly THE most beautiful big bike design ever made. That's certainly debatable and is a personal comment, but nothing else looks as right to me. FYI I also have a Goldwing and it is just as thrilling power-wise (1800cc's !!) and rolls wonderfully thru corners, but it isn't the aggressive seating position of the FJR. I've ridden the FJR to Cali and back (from Salt Lake City, and loved how fast I cover the distances even loaded up like the Beverly Hillbillies!

@@chrismaggio7879 I did end up buying my FJR, a Red 2014 with all the extra upgrades already done. I drove it from Salem, Oregon to SF, CA---and I didn't feel tired at all! You were so right about it being so great for long trips. As soon as I arrived in the Bay Area around sunset, it was suddenly quite cold, foggy, and windy and those heated handgrips did the job! I didn't get knocked around by the wind, either. Perfect bike. I took the very nice county side roads, mostly 99W. It really was like a dream. Could smell a lot of things, the grapes, oak wine barrel and pine tree smells, and of course many cannabis farms. hehe I loved the power and handling of the bike, drove it mostly in 5th gear, among the winding, tree-covered roads, and perfect weather. Really enjoying the bike. Just took a few minutes in the parking lot to get fully comfortable with it. It really handles well.

@ John Jones - For the most part I do... Too big of bikes focusing way too much on comfort making them mostly only suitable for straight line riding. Sure you could say you can still carve a canyon, but I've seen Goldwings and Harleys do that too, but it's just no fun doing that and is way too much work.
