Review of the FZ6 by Yamaha. Feel free to leave any feedback or questions in the comments section.
Riding without proper safety gear can be hazardous and is not recommended. The riding you see here was done by a trained(ish) semi-professional on a closed course.
First song is Kyushu by Mrs. Evergreen.
Second song is Raven by Jamie Salisbury.
All rights to their respective owners. I just liked their songs! Thanks for watching.

Been riding since 67 and the 6 is the best all around I ever had. 55k, replaced a tires or 2, chains, fork seal and some oil. Runs better than new because I painted it in the fastest color. Black.

Been riding for over 40 years brought one of these babys over 4 years ago, when my last bike was stolen, and guess what still have it now, so says alot. your comments are spot on second hand bargains everywhere, it has plenty of power for real world riding and yes once above 8k she wakes up and goes, use her mainly for commmuting these days, but have soft luddage and its a good bike for weekend touring, the tank range is great if ridden sensibly gets 250 miles ,your right its a good ride " jack of all trades master of none " but for the money hard to beat , plus best of all get off still after 4 years with a smile on my face lol

I have one naked model S2 ABS since 2009, more than 10 years now with it, and i still love everyday that i go to the garage to turn it on and go to work or anywhere for that matter. I use it everyday, is my daily commuter and i have tested a lot of 600s and liter bikes, and i am still in love with my FZ6.

Absolutely love my 2007 Yamaha Blue FZ-6. Two mods I'd highly recommend - install a clutch release arm from a Yamaha MT-07. It's a little longer than the factory one and will help reduce the stock heavy clutch feel. Secondly, get a Scorpion exhaust! I got the round stainless model from SportsBikeShop in the UK. Cost me just under $450 shipped to the USA and it fit perfectly. The craftsmanship was impeccable as well. With the baffles in, it's just barely louder than stock. However, take the baffles out, and experience pure eargasms! I still can't help but laugh every time as I rev it up past 8,000 rpm, it sounds so freaking amazing! And it looks so much better than the factory exhaust with the tiny little tailpipes, IMO.

After owning a bunch of regular supersport bikes I bought a 1st gen FZ1 and it instantly became my favorite bike. I've rode it in two trackdays and set my best times with it. I can actually corner better with the higher and wider bars because it's easier to control and the bike feels more agile and maneuverable. On the street you appreciate the more comfortable position and little things like the large fuel capacity and helmet lock. Not to mention the centerstand. I'm looking at a low mile '08 FZ6 for $2500 for mainly the track, you can get these bikes dirt cheap. With the suspension resprung and revalved and the forks raised 10mm it would be perfect. Its sad that bikes like this are now ugly fully naked bikes with no wind protection.

I had a 2005 for 6 years. Amazing place to start your riding career as long as you're self disciplined and have good throttle control. It's such a puppy dog lower in the rev range but an animal when you kick it. This is a good review. However, in my experience, the wind screen is designed specifically so that every bug you approach hits you directly in the face. It's ridiculous to ride this without a full face helmet. But to each their own.
@MatthewGoesNowhere
@MatthewGoesNowhere 3 жыл бұрын
I've certainly gotten a couple bugs in my face here and there. For me, the windscreen pushes most of the airflow above my helmet. (I ride mostly with a full face but I have an open face I use sometimes). That being said, I'm not the tallest guy. Also, all of the bikes I've owned before this one didn't have any sort of windscreen at all, so it felt like a step up to me haha.

Thanks for the review. Recently bought my first SS. 2005 GSXR 600. I love its bipolar personality. Pretty normal up to 7500 rpm, gets crazy from 7500-15000. I can rid fairly normal all day long. I know this bike isn't made for the street. I have clip ons that are 1" closer and higher than stock. That's gonna let me ride a lot longer with no stiff neck. The FZ6 seems like an incredible bargain with the fairings, look, bad ass exhaust, more rider friendly bike in general. I just don't know if the WOW factor is there performance wise I'll have to research. Maybe a test ride on a used one. Thanks Again !!!!

Thank you! Unfortunately I haven't ridden a VFR yet. I've heard good things, I believe they're a bit heavier but a lot of people prefer the suspension/braking/overall handling to the FZ6. That engine is pretty sweet too. Overall, I'm a bit more partial to Honda as well. Again, I haven't ridden it so this is just from what I've heard. Sorry I couldn't help more.

There’s a few similar options like the FZ6R which succeeded this. Also the Honda CB650 or the Kawasaki ninja 650. Suzuki used to make GSX-F650 which was a very direct competitor to this as well as the Kawasaki Z750. Jack of all trades type bikes.
@DacodaCourtney
@DacodaCourtney 3 жыл бұрын
I’ve got a couple questions. Would this be a good tourer? I know you said kind of but I’m wondering if the front fairing really does much to stop buffeting. Also would it be a good bike to move into the sportier style when all I’ve ridden are cruisers? Oh and one more thing do you think it could possibly be someone’s last bike (as in something that has enough power to keep them entertained).
@MatthewGoesNowhere
@MatthewGoesNowhere 3 жыл бұрын
Well it certainly had enough power for me haha. As for wind, the front fairing actually does help, not as much as a full windshield or something, but I've ridden a good few naked bikes and it does make a difference. If the main thing I wanted to do was touring I probably wouldn't buy this bike. I'd say it's closer to sport than it is to touring, but then again, I haven't really owned a lot of touring bikes. It's certainly going to be more comfortable than a lot of sport bikes for longer rides, but it's still not going to be as comfortable as a touring/cruiser bike for cross-country hauls. If you want a sport bike that is more approachable for longer rides or daily riding though, I think it's a great pick. Just my two cents, hope it helps.

If you're still in the market, I don't ever recommend starting on anything above a 250cc. Just my personal opinion of course, but I always recommend starting on something smaller to learn to ride before you get a bike that can kill you as easily as this one can. Hope that helps! Sorry for the late response!

@MatthewGoesNowhere
@MatthewGoesNowhere 3 жыл бұрын
In general I do not recommend 600cc bikes as first bikes, especially ones with 100ish HP. So I wouldn't personally, but everyone has different opinions. I normally recommend people start on something smaller like a 250 of some kind or even a scooter, as it allows you to learn the ropes of riding without having an unnecessarily sporty/difficult clutch and enough power to kill yourself pretty easily. Just my opinion though. I think some people have had success with these as first bikes.

I have the chance to get one of these for under 2k euros from a friend of my inlaws. Seems like a good starter bike. My favorite bikes are the new vulcan and eliminator 500 but those are still 7k+. @MatthewGoesNowhere

No gear indicator I think! Not 100% sure as I haven't had the bike for a little bit now, but I'm pretty sure they don't have one. I'm mostly coming from 70s and 80s bikes so I barely even consider it anymore haha. That's a solid price! Hopefully you got it or something else cool!

Good review. Not good at anything, but decent at everything is pretty accurate. Maybe that is why I like it. I bought my 2007 new and only being able to afford having one bike I was looking for a standard all around motorcycle. After 48k miles I still love it. I've thought of trading it in for something else at times but just can't justify it and feel I would regret it. I recently got a different style smaller bike for something different to ride and so I would have something to ride while I do some refreshing and upgrading on the FZ6. It's nice to be able to switch between the two and don't see getting rid of the FZ6 for a long time, if ever.
@SatanikanataS
@SatanikanataS 2 жыл бұрын
I've had my '07 for six years now, and like you, I can't justify switching. I love riding it, it's beautiful (team Yamaha blue!), and mine is typically the only one I ever see around my city. It's just too reliable to want to bother buying another bike. Also, half fairings are the best combo of looks and usefulness. You get that sexiness of a naked bike with decent wind deflection and mirrors you can actually use to see behind you.

Don’t get it twisted. This is still a FAST bike, even by today’s standards. 3.5 seconds to 60 and 12.5 qtr mile.

No negative comments, so I'll split hairs. I don't care for the sportbike left/right headlights. I often get people telling me I have a burned out light. Same thing on my Zuma. No biggie. I love em both.

Agreed! I wish they'd just put hi/lo bulbs in both.

There is MOD, easily can make work both of them. Check on KZbin for examples. I did for my fz6.
