I had a 87 model back in 1998 with 10 thousand miles. Fitted straight bars and took me all over the country at mac 2! Amazing bike.

I loved my FZ750. Red and white like this one. It's the only bike I know whose speedo needle would actually bounce off the stopper when it hit 150mph. What an engine! The seat though, OMG. It was like sitting on the blade of a knife.

I loved the seat for giving girls a ride. They can't help but slide up right on you. Miss that bike.

I first bought an 86 FZ with only 800 miles and the guy already put a Vance and Hines on it. It was a game changer as far as I was concerned and thus entered Yamaha as my preferred sport bike over the Kawasaki Ninjas. I then bought an 85 but didn't like it as much (no lower fairing) as it seemed to have some carb issues. Through the next 10 years I bought 2 more 86 models which were both in great shape (see my 80+ bikes video). The late 90s R1 and R6 further cemented my admiration for Yamahas high tech. mastery. Really, the 85 FZ was a game changer with so much advanced tech such as stacked gear boxes, mass centralization and down draft carbs that it left the remaining big 3 scratching their heads and then following suit.

I had 2, in sucession, 86 then 88. I had 2 of FZR-1000, YZF-1000 and the 98 R1. 2006 R1 was the last of the 5 valvers (my current). Thanks for bringing back some fond memories. You seem to maintain a pretty good clip there and its still a plenty fast bike. 7:40 It's a longish wheel base, but that;s good on the highway for stability. And yes tires have come a long way.

One small feature of the FZ750 that is never mentioned but is handy is that the fuel gauge is very accurate, more accurate than I’ve seen on any vehicle, including cars. This is because the actual fuel tank is cube-shaped, so half-full means half full on the FZ, not an indicated 3/4 is actually 1/2, which is very common own both bikes and cars, due to their odd-shaped fuel tanks. Another feature I really like is the hydraulic clutch release. No cable to break or need regular adjusting, because the hydraulic clutch is self-adjusting, and is very progressive, year after year. It’s one less thing to distract you from the riding experience. One last tip: replace the FZ750 mirrors with FJ1200/1300 mirrors. They bolt right on and let you see around your elbows. Highly recommended!
@maxblack3284 Жыл бұрын
I had to tighten the mirrors up as they keep moving. Yes, the clutch is great. 👍

Good tip bro I used to take mine off once you get up to unreasonable speeds they loosen and unwind themselves blue dot r1 front callipers are a straight bolt on I wish I knew this before embedding mine into the b pillar of a turning Mazda 323 back in 01 wish I’d kept the number plate it was an Isle of Man registered bike so I was riding Y750MAN in England when X reg had just come out witch Kent police found very interesting many many times.

Howdy and greetings from Calgary, Alberta. Lovely bike and great video. Such an avid fan of these vintage Yamahas. I've owned several when they were new - from the FJ1100 to the RZ500 and a number of other odd-ball stuff. I just recently found an 87 FZR1000 that I'll be restoring in the near future. I just finished restoring my 84 Virago 1000. The FZR I found is complete and original but in pretty rough shape. Glad to see videos like this out for all of us to enjoy. The SOUND of a Yamaha is so distinct - especially the Genesis engine. Oh, and the crackling sound on your mic - if you're using a late model GoPro with the mic adapter, the output gain of your lav mic is too high and the input to the mic adapter is too hot - that causes clipping that the AGC on the mic adapter just can't cope with. I had the same problem and bought a purple panda lav mic with all the proper adapter cables for the GoPro. They're better matched (gain and impedance) and you'll get better fidelity with no clipping. Cheers!!

I had this bike. D656 PNE. I used to love it. Rode everywhere on it. I was only 19 or 20. Used to absolutely thrash it. Redline in first and second gear every time. In 2 years I only got 1 speeding ticket. Was before the days of speed cameras.

I had the same exact bike/year and sold it about 1995. Then got a CBR600 about 5 years ago. The Honda was painfully uncomfortable and did not feel as stable when raising hell down the freeways...perhaps it's just my age...

Great to see an FZ750 video, it's got me keen to finish my 1986 blue and white one 👍 Had one back in 1988 and wished I hadn't sold it, so bought an identical one 4 years ago. I sometimes ride on the same roads, if you see a blue and white FZ sometime, it's likely to be me !

I've had a blue and white model from 1990 for 24 years now, was riding it yesterday. Best bike for an all rounder imho it never feels old (apart from brakes). Give me a shout if you fancy a pint after it's back on the road.

My favourite 750. Loved it. I had the same model for 20K miles. Soft forks, weak brakes, doesn't like headwind but completely un-flustered by a side wind. Nose heavy when scratching so that will be the first thing to go. Very economical even when used hard. f that's the original exhaust, it will rot from the inside. I did once manage to run mine off the clock, so it can be REALLY fast.

I bought my FZ750 1FN in 1990 and I still have it. Not had it on the road for about 20 years, and been thinking of sorting it out again. Probably strip it down and powder coat the frame. Not sure whether to strip the top end and Cerakote the barrels and head, or whether to strip the entire engine. I managed to wear out the original clutch lever on mine! Too much time riding 2 strokes maybe. Mine was a pain for carb icing in the winter. Commuting down the A38 to work, it would run below 3~4K, and you could see the fuel gauge moving. It would clear up fairly quickly once caught in traffic. Mine had a Micron pipe in it when I bought it, which gave a big flat spot between 3k and 4K. I put a Laser pipe on after a few years which is far better.

They put that engine in all sorts from Dakar works bikes to snow mobiles and jet skis the name genesis is only partly to do with the engine it has as much to do with the carb air box and petrol positioning in only the back of the tank genesis was the original concept of tilting the cylinders forward so the carbs and air box go above the engine and not behind it with fuel going behind them in the back of the tank only for a few different reasons from better engine cooling to loading the front end with a lower centre mass to bigger and more easily fed air box (especially on later ram air fed bikes) to lowering and centering the fuel load almost all sports bikes after this use this layout and design.

Yeah, the seat had that forward slope. I bought my 4th 1986 FZ750 in 1996 and realized then how harsh the rear suspension was ... that was after 10 more years of Japanese sport bike evolution...
@nomorokay Жыл бұрын
After racing my FZ750 in 750 Production and Open Production for the 1985 season, the very first mod I did was to replace the stock plank (it pretty much is) with a Corbin Gunfighter and Lady seat. The seat is actually bum-shaped (well, the reverse, actually, so it fits your bum) and so much more comfortable. I did that change before the brake and suspension mods, because the stock seat was constantly on my mind, so to speak. At that time in Toronto, it seemed like 50% of the sport bikes had Corbin seats, or a few other less-well-known brands. Years later, when the cover started to crack, it was simple to take it to a car upholstery shop and get it recovered with better material, so you can keep those seats for a really long time. It was less than half the price of a new seat.

The fz750 seat was rejected by the Spanish Inquisition as too cruel a form of torture! When I bought my fz it had a very crudely cut down seat on it with little padding. I bought a standard seat from a breakers and put that on. Took it back off a week later and went back to the crudely cut down one.

Is the speedo the wrong one? It only seems to be indicating halfway. Similar problem with the tach too by the look of it :c) You left loads of performance and braking ability in the bag... Admittedly that's probably why yours sounds so smooth whereas mine now sounds like a bag of spanners... Mine is an awesome bike and it's never failed me in twenty years, of excessively fast riding. And the emergency braking performance is MUCH better than you show. Bridgestone battleaxe tyres really suit this bike, when you can get them...
