Thanks for this Leigh, I have been playing with the idea of linking my Genos to forScore on the iPad wirelessly so that choosing a song from a playlist automatically brings up the score on the iPad and vice versa. Now that I’ve seen this video the possibilities for a wireless connection are enormous. Oh to have more time!!

Yes, it would be great if Yamaha creates app that can fully controll Genos, it might become accessible for blind through I-pad, because it has built in screen reader' It is possible that it is already accessible for us with Midi designer. I'll try to find someone that has Genos here in Croatia to try it out! Thanks for a great video, it can be that you found the oportunity for blind people to finaly use arranger keyboards. Thanks again!

If this helps someone who’s blind then that would be amazing.
@Niklas_Gardelid11 ай бұрын
Yes that would be awesome! :) I know that Yamaha released software for Genos 1 that gave voice output when you touched the screen and told you what you selected. That was great, but the disadvantage was that the voice only could be routed to the main outputs so the audience had to hear it. Maybe they have fixed this now, so it is possible to have the voice only in in-ears for example. I will look more into this! :) Best!

@@Niklas_Gardelid Unfortunately, Voice Guide function isn't good at all. They didn't inplement screen reader, what is much better sollution, but they prerecorded voice messages in wave format that are triggered by touching the screen. As much as I know, you can search for the voice or stilles, but if you want to edit something or use deeper functions of the keyboard, you can't. It is sad that we can't fully access all of the keyboard. I would never pay so much for instrument that I can't use. If they can't inplemment screen reader in the keyboard, we need fully accessible app for I-phone, I-pad, computer or anny other device that has built in screen reader. We could than use keyboard without public hearing spoken feedback.

I’m blind too, I received my Genos2 on Monday, I’m totally amazed, personally I love the way how the vocal guide works, but the big big problem is that lots of screens are not voiced, I am trying to contact Yamaha team to make them a feedback. However, I am asking if it’s not possible to add some vocal notes in the vocal guide, because you can change the existing files and replace them for example, does anybody know about it? And yes, I agree, the solution of a screen reader would be magnificent, it would be the easiest. I could set up and assign my keyboard by my own, even using screens, which are not voiced, it’s possible, but when you are working with user files are using edition menus, it becomes very difficult for the moment

Hi Leigh. Another great tutorial, many thanks. I have used the APP for a while now, mainly for style & voice control. It gets around the problems with Faders and Rotary switches not having feedback. Now on the IPad I can see and adjust all my controls instantly. There is a new version due out shortly also you can do everything within the App without using MIDISCOPE. It is in the design mode, MIDI and it’s called learn.
@LeighWilbraham11 ай бұрын
Brilliant. If it has midi learn. I used midiscope because the current learn doesn’t pick up all of the controls. Midiscope shows everything - amazing what you can do and more surprised that Yamaha haven’t made a remote control app themselves - iPad 12 inch would be so useful for those with poor vision. Accessibility is so important.

Hi Leigh - have you ever played a Roli Seaboard? Can you imagine how one of those gorgeous Genos Voices like the Fluegelhorn will sound when expressively played on a Seaboard? I have a seaboard and I am about to connect it to the Genos 2 … I am sure this will be fantastic! You would love it!

Hi Leigh. Very nice and to the point tutorial. A well-made Template for MidiDesigner. I have Genos1 and I have MidiDesignerProX, but I have communication problems. My iPad connects to Genos via WiFi, but I probably have incorrect Midi port settings on Genos, so although some functions work, not all of them do. I can control Voice R1.2.3 and Left. I also know REG1-10, but some messages coming to MidiDesigner do not trigger a reaction in Genos. In the background of your video I see that you have interesting settings of Midi ports in Genos. Could you tell me how to set them in Genos so that communication between Genos and MidiDesigner for iPad is correct? I know that this port setting can also be exported, but if you could at least explain how the Midi ports should be set in Genos, I would be very grateful. Maybe there is a tutorial on this topic somewhere, or maybe you, Leigh, have already recorded one, I'd love to watch it. I'm asking you if you had time to help. Regards Dariusz Sagadyn Sorry for my English, forgive me...

this reminds me the app bk partner that i use on my roland bk3. i have performance or style list to choose from , i can select instrument, and control start stop, fill, variations. then on the bk3 i have my mp3's, midi songs displayed at the same time. not a bad setup for me. i also have a korg pa 600 that has touch screen display. i really enjoy your video thanks. ill check out those apps
@theopichard831611 ай бұрын
Do you know if those applications can control and program the style creator? I corroborate all the commentaries I have just read from blind musicians, being blind too, if Yamaha is watching, yes, making an application to fully control the Genos means make it fully accessible for blind people. This ID of a vocal guide is so good and helpful, it would be magnificent if they can carry on working on it, and adapting, voicing more and more screens. I love so much your videos Leigh, you are a model for me, thank you so much for all these so deep musical moments with you and Genos

Very timely video - I have an elderly but loved HX1 sitting next to my Genos and this would revolutionise the options. Quickly reading through the Genos manual, it looks like you can actually set the instrument up as a wifi access point so you may not even need the MIDI adapter you show. Will investigate. You may be aware that John Beesley does an app for the Genos which allows even more control and layers, obviously using the same MIDI command structure. But alas it doesn’t appear to have basic transport and style controls, so not so good for an external instrument.

That’s my next trial to use WiFi - not sure the app will send via WiFi though.

The Roland FP30x has both standard midi and midi audio both over Bluetooth. This means you can control certain features of the keyboard. However, best of all you can play backing tracks on your iPad and the audio comes out of the keyboards speakers and you can play along!

Hi, thanks for great videos! :) This sounds very interesting! Do you know if this technology even can be used to browse voices and styles? I’m currently playing a Tyros4 but am very interested in Genos. But since I’m totally blind, it’s not all that easy to use the touch screen so I’m looking for alternative ways of controlling the keyboard. :) All the best!
