Absolutely. I sold my Taylor 914ce and purchased both the AC3r and the AC5r. In my opinion the quality workmanship, playability, and tone of these Yamaha models equal guitars easily twice their price. I could not find a huge difference between the China and Japan models outside fancier inlays, Gotoh open tuners... To me they both play and sound alike.... Truly my favorite acoustics. I also own an L-6 and a mahogony parlor Yamaha model.

00:28 I just bought the AC3R and I feel the same way. I have gone back and tried seemingly every guitar that could check all of my boxes. The Martin M36 was the closest I got to getting what I wanted. However, this little guitar is so good for it's price range, I really don't know how they do it. And the SRT2 system is the icing on the cake, it's such a good a versatile pickup system.
@deanrussell59704 күн бұрын
I also have the A3R and overall the sound is amazing. They do have an issue though - the SRT pickup system is very noisy which makes it impossible to use for recording and even comes through in a solo live setting - you can hear it at the end of this video when he stops playing. Yamaha is probably the best bang for the buck and have an excellent reputation so I'm surprised they would release the SRT to market with this issue.

Hi there, I got my yamaha a3r 2016 model ...yes not the exact same guitar like you demonstrated us(I thought I was buying one like yours...I figured it out once I got it on my hands and compered it with the looks of it from your video 🤣) Anyway is pretty much the same instrument besides some small changes like the ARE (technically aged wood) Yamaha is using nowadays, probably that is why your guitar's top looks darker than mine which is lighter colour and the grain of the wood is more visible something that I loved as soon as I opened that beautiful hard case that came with from Yamaha ...here I got to say that the guitar is brand new I bought it from a dealer in Italy... An other difference are the electronics and the battery position...at least these are the differences I can see myself...the rest are exactly as you described, the instrument is very very well made... I couldn't find anything not even inside like leeks of glue around the bracing that you usually see on cheaper guitars ..everything is surprisingly beautifully done. The guitar feels solid like it is and sounds fantastic with lots of sustain ...something that characterises mostly more much more expensive guitars...the playability is there ...maybe the nut I would say is towards the narrow side but it's OK with me. I have the guitar a day now and I can't leave it from my hands!!! Overall... that guitar has everything one needs, beautiful rosewood with excellent finish, warm and balanced sound, comfortable neck, very good electronics (alots of potential) and the most important you don't break the bank...very fair purchase really happy with that Yamaha that guitar is a keeper!!! Thanks for bringing this up to me Richard...be good 👍 👍

I bought this same guitar (well - the dark burst finish but otherwise same) in Japan and brought it back to the US. It cost me just under $700 US dollars which meant no import costs. It is a fine instrument - I wanted another acoustic to keep tuned down a 1/2 step. That said, my main is the Yamaha FGX5 made in Japan. It retails for around $1500 US although I got a like new used for just over $900. While I appreciate it isn't apples to apples, the quality and playability of the latter is superior. NOT BY MUCH, and you are correct when you say there are diminishing returns as you go up the price points. With great manufacturing occurring across the globe, this is something all the manufacturers are susceptible too. Nice playing :>

Why would I shell out twice as much for the Japanese version (Yairi) when I can buy their Laureate flagship model from China for $1400 USD? I've been playing acoustics since the 70's, and my first was "made in Japan," which meant it was bottom tier. Fifty years later, Japan is known for fine guitars, and China is the new "made in Japan." However, the truth is some of the finest, most affordable guitars are currently being made in China for non-Chinese companies. Given that the Chinese economy is in free-fall, I'm guessing that this won't last. China's in really bad shape and getting worse.

Hey, thanks for this vid :) I have same observation, there is no point in paying double money for 5% extra features, if one really uses the instrument a lot, or gigs with it. 5k axe getting stolen in a skid row joint as you look away to get your drink? No, thanks. Revstar is a great example, the mid-priced line from Indonesia (at least mine is from Indonesia), does the job. I feel MiJ & MiA , and some top-line guitars are meant for people expecting high re-sell value (or profit). Maybe for wealthy collectors, too. Its kind of like making museum art objects of the guitars. Which is ok, if you fancy starting a museum ;) Here in the EU there is a huge market for "original vintage", boxed and never (or hardly ever) played guitars, with criminally high price tags on them. And, a cool name on the headstock, of course. Its a nonsense, but people seem to like it and play this game. And, as for double-lines (same model from various factories) all major brands do it, so it has become a thing now. Even Solar do it. Cheers.peace

I had an LL16, which I played for a couple of years and really enjoyed. That was made in China and I got it 2nd hand from £450. I think the new price is about £800. You just cannot touch these guitars for the money. I have high end US Martins, and the Yammie was certainly in the ballpark, and I would say possibly better than one of them. I only sold it on because I bought a Fylde and my house has a 'one in-one out policy'. They are just fantastic guitars, but the law of diminishing returns applies equally to all guitars. A £200 guitar is probably easily twice as good as a £100 one, a £400 guitar probably isn't anywhere twice as good as the £200, but it's afair bit better. By the time you get into the £1000s, it becomes a matter of taste IMO. I don't like any Lowden I have played, my oldest friend would have to have his surgically removed from his hands. I feel the same about my HD35. They come in at almost the same price.

You’re not wrong, I’m just trying to do my part to turn it around! Everyone should see guitars for what they are individually

No,I wouldn't agree with your thoughts, all details considered ( wood types, nut and saddĺe material etc. I know of many Guitarist's who feel Yamaha's are Awesome guitar's, their consistency is the key, Iv'e played alot of poor Martin's, takamines, etc.but Yamaha seems to have that consistency, but then just my experiences 😊😊😊

Yes indeed, good reasoning, I feel the same, the higher the price your not for the money getting much more, and I settled for their acoustonic cutaway, wow now that's a guitar 😊😊😊

Yamaha has produced millions of "Pawn Shop" specials... beginner guitars, so most people have played one of their $200 instruments and decided that Yamaha doesn't know how to make a guitar. Nobody who has played my LL-TA (LL16 with transacoustic) holds a negative view of Yamaha guitars :P

I have two. One a twelve string. They are quite incredible, and the twelve string has the most amazing, light, action. Im not a great player, to say the least, but I love the quality and sound you get, consistantly, with Yamaha. I dont much care who else buys the brand, but Im glad I have🙂
