thanks for this patch comparison, something I've been looking for 🙏. I am surprised at how good the MODX+ is, given that the Montage is 2.5X the price, where I live. While there is better reverb and sound quality on some of the patches, it really isn't enough to justify a 2.5X price tag for the Montage. The MODX+ it is, for me. Thanks again..

I should mention, too, that the sounds I chose were ones that both keyboards contained the samples/patches for. When you delve into the Montage’s string & horn patches, especially solo instruments, you can hear where the comparison gap is. Montage comes to life.

Formerly, I owned a 01/W pro and subsequently 01/W FD. The overall sound quality between the 2 instruments was, despite the same name patches, pretty damn significant and the later purchased FD had to go within a month

Funny how that works. Some minuscule component on a circuit board, replaced with a cheaper one, may have shaved a penny off production costs. 😆

Notice a slightly better reverb tail on the montage with CFX & Pad.

Agreed. The Montage verb really stands out

I love Yamaha keyboards but the amount of hoop-jumping you have to do to run an update or download a piece of software is such a pain - especially since acquiring Steinberg. Download this. Email that. Confirm this. Enter serial number. Type in this code. Run the installer. Re-start computer....

So true..same. Huge dance you have to do, endlessly. I made peace by using them for what they do best- as live instruments, or if I want to record them, I go analog out into two audio inputs in my daw. That’s the closest my Yamaha keyboards get to a computer. And then of course for any real recording I use plug-ins like everyone else. I don’t regret it a bit, and the nightmares stopped. 😆
