Excellent video! How do you Scene 1-5 and ARP Switch 1-4 on midi controller FCB1010? I want to free up my hands. But there isnt a guide for it. What are the SYSEX values for Scene 1-5 / ARP-On/Off 1-4? Basically I want to control Performance mode sequence on foot because when I trigger with hand it’s messing up my groove. Thank you!

The best way to find sysex values will be to download a midi monitor app and trigger the messages that you want them write down the sysex message. This is not guaranteed to work though once you put the info into your machine... But it will be a great start.

thanks for feedback, the montage has the s ocalled Performances consisting of Parts and Scenes...inside the parts you can define (add) parts dedicated to the synths you have and define with the zone management the midi data sent to get the right sound adjusted. This means in one performance you can deal with several synths...I have that beast new...still exploring...love it.

no problem on the feedback. that's what I'm here for. Yes that performances mode must be the new master mode. (or at least it includes the features). I've been considering grabbing a montage to learn the ins and outs and add some things to my channel based on it.

This is a great video - thank you! Master mode demystified! One question: Instead of an external instrument on additional zones, how can I additional internal sounds? E.g. can I have another voice on zone 5 or performance on zones 5-8?

I will need to get back in front of a motif again to check on this for you (to be sure). I don't have my XF anymore. But I believe it would be possible. Think about it like this, it would essentially be the same as adding a performance into the master vs going all external. BUT to make sure it worked correctly, I would but the external parts on the later zones (5-8)... the motif is automatically programmed to attach the four parts of a performance to a single transmitting/receive channel ON THE FIRST FOUR FADERS. So set up a performance on the master just like you normally would have THEN try and add the external parts to faders/zones 5-8. Let me know if this works for you.

Just a normal midi cable. But I also I a little more complex setup with my midi that I also use that connect everything to two different computers and each other all at once. I can't use both computers together simultaneously but I can use them one at a time and with the other devices.

Great video, it does turn my Xf7 into a midi controller and I guess the entire purpose of the video and the function you are explaining to us, I am trying to get two way traffic between my Motif and FL Studio and it does communicate both ways when I use the midi out plugin, I am only wondering where your output is going to ? I see you controlling 2 additional synths with the Motif but you then hooked up 6 monitors ? No right ? Because I cannot get my computer to send the midi data back like the Yamaha manual is speaking about on port three with sending midi on port 1, the Motif is indeed sending midi but I cannot use the monitors on the Motif as output, and the Motif as tone generator, that is what my soundcard is doing in my computer, is the thing that I want to achieve just weird and have I misread the manual or is there something I am missing ? I tried everything and trying for weeks now, hopefully someone who understand the issue I got ? It sounds simple to me, instead of using my 5.1 system on my computer I want to send the signal to the Motif so it can monitor the sound, not that I don't know how to get my sound to my MSP 5 monitors, I mean that is a matter of hooking up an interface I suppose but is there any way for the Motif to receive the echo signal of the midi being send so that it can then use a DAW to produce the sound with midi but also to receive it back on port three so it then also acts like a tone generator ? I am really stuck

@@JuliusDeBerryJr Sorry about that, I tried to be as clear as possible, so I tried what you showed me and it works, I can now also use the 8 sliders to control my DAW wich was impossible before your method, so very nice euhm but my main concern was : How can I echo or resend midi data send from the Motif to a DAW in my case FL Studio 21 back to the Motif so that the L/R outputs are used of the Motif itself, I can see you controlling 2 synths right ? On channel 14 and 15 ? Well is it that you send midi data to the other 2 synths and they are turning it into audio with their own tone generator or do you receive the Midi data back that you generated in the video on the Motif and is your Motif monitoring the sound on the L/R outputs instead of the I think L/R outputs of the synths on channel 14 and 15 ? Yeah I am really sorry that I am not that clear it has been a long night again, soooo the bottom line here is : how can I redirect the midi data send by the Motif to my DAW back to the motif so that the Motif will generate the sound with it's own tone generator becauzzzz when I choose a midi out plugin, well then the Motif does produce sound even with the Local control on OFF soooo that means the Motif can receive midi data back on port 3 right ? And also monitor the sound ? All the other midi data is send to my soundcard of my computer that is why I am wondering about this, and wondering if the Motif is capable of also receiving midi from a DAW but also to send it to it's own tone generator, I have everything set up all channels are visible in my DAW, channel 1, 2, 3, 4 and there is connection between the Motif and my computer and DAW but I am really eager to find out the Motif can generate the sound being produced by the midi data that I send to my DAW with the Motif, I got this idea that I am mixing up midi data with audio wich requires the FW16E card and a Firewire cable the card wich is as good as unavailable but yeah that is sort of my question.

Anyone else figured out that when you change from av Voice-sound to Performance-sound in Master mode, it takes like 1-2 seconds to load? I can't have this when performing life:( How to prevent? Btw, my keyboard is XF.

I've heard people mention that sometimes, the motif does take a second or so between screens when trying to program sounds... I'm not sure I've heard about this issue before.

I love the motif, very high q sounds, but the user interface on Yamaha boards are terrible, Yamaha has to overhaul there interface, and make it easier for every to use, I think the that should take some lessons from Roland on the usability side if things

Ricardo Jubraj what specifically don't you like about the interface? Everybody used to say the motif was soooo hard to understand. But once you get the hang of it, it's super easy.

Ricardo Jubraj True its still a workstation synth though. you can't really compare it to what Roland has been putting out recently. FA-08, RD-2000 Both are Stage based. if you look at the Fantom or the V-Synth, they are some of the hardest boards to learn. I think Yamaha should take cues from Roland on their stage pianos like the CP-80 instead.

Ricardo Jubraj FA08 is def not stage based. It's a workstation. It has pads on it. Def not a stage piano... Yamaha has their stage piano market and the motif isn't in that line.... however if you want to just turn it on and select a piano or EP voice, you can definitely use it as a stage piano. 😉

@Pete K I'll agree that it's a complex system, but I think the other thing is that musicians tend to want to feel inspired when they buy an instrument and assume they will just instantly gel with a worktation. I hated my M3 and Motif originally, but something told me to not get rid of them. Over time, I grew as a musician and began to understand what these boards were capable of. They are the most customizable and extremely practical for wide variety of situations.
