Do you know how to record with the default effects on? For example, when I play the clavinet nu phasing patch in non-record mode, I hear the phaser effect. However, when I record the same patch it is dry. Any ideas? Thx

The functionality is the same as MO8. The X represents extra sounds from the Motif XS which was the flagship at that time. So basically you have a stripped down version of the XS-you have a great keyboard!

Yes, I'm enjoying it, but need to start to get to the good stuff. I appreciate your quick response. Having looked around a little bit, I'm thinking that the record functions (just simple drum tracks, etc) will be the same in any synth in the Motif series. So videos on virtually any Motif series will work. True? Best.... Rick

+Richard Bryan You're correct, the record functions are the same. The XS and XF have bigger screens, different button placement and are therefore much easier. However, I'd recommend using Cubase which comes with the keyboard over using the inbuilt record function for two reasons 1) More Power/control/features 2) Easy to save to MP3 or any audio file. I have since moved from using the inbuilt sequencer for recording. Best...Jakn

XPEHBAMBCEMB3AD With the MO8 or MO6 you cannot. I think the XF is when they introduced the feature where you can play in Performance mode and record to Pattern mode. Cheers

Once you lay down tracks on pattern mode can you save them so you can keep going back to them..if so how do you do that?

Unfortunately you have to save to a USB Flash drive by pressing the STORE button and navigating to the particular pattern and saving it. Otherwise if you turn of the keyboard you lose everything. Also you can save only to Motif format and not to formats such as MP3 which a computer can read. You will need to connect the audio out of the keyboard to a computer and record the audio in a recorder application on your computer. For this reason I stopped recording using the keyboard and have switched to Cubase/Logic on the computer which still allow me to use the keyboard sounds but not use the keyboard sequencer for recording.

Josh Hurt You could google free DAWS from the internet but they lack a lot of features, but if it just basic recording you need a program like Audacity which is free can work. Logic and Cubase are not free but Cubase comes free with the Motif. Logic is cheap but only for Apple computers.

+JaredKay Once you press the record button, the screen changes and the button F5 will allow you to turn off the click track. This is before you press play. Hope that's clear
