Yamaha MT-09 Tracer FJ-09 with Loud Akrapovic Exhaust

The decatted Akro sounds sooo good in person. A friend of mine here in the US has one with the full system plus a dyno tune. Its lovely.

Hi Mark. It was a cheap one from ebay. about £10. It's NOT waterproof so don't use it in heavy rain or submersed in water. OK as a splash proof holder.

Like you were I am trying to decide between FJ09 and Tiger 800xrx. I've read that the Tiger engine is smoother and more refined. What was your experience and is rear shock adequate for one up riding? I am 170 lbs. Thanks and ride safe. I cannot decide.

Stock windscreen on the Tracer makes basic wind sound like a million bison running down a midwestern valley with a tornado behind them.

The design team in charge of hand guards and windscreens on the MT didn't really care about actual wind function.

Yeah- I couldn't even hear the exhaust above 50 mph. I put a big ugly touring screen on. Much better.

Yeah it's noisy as fuck. With your head directly behind the wind screen you can enjoy the humming of the engine. Lift up your head and you are in a fucking tornado with ear damaging noise.

Reasons why I prefer naked bikes with a minimal flyscreen to take a little pressure off the mid-section. Clean laminar airflow where my helmet is. Even if I live in a cold climate area with a shorter riding season, I still like to be able to take advantage of air flow to cool myself when it is hot. I've ridden behind windshields that do a decent job of blocking wind pressure and I'm sweating on warm days, unable to keep cool enough. Just don't care for them. I'd rather ride slower speeds (under 70 mph) for distance on a naked bike than be hot and uncomfortable and hearing tornadic noise from the turbulent air around my helmet. As an aside: much of the roar of a jet engine taking off is the turbulent air swirling on the edge of the jet blast and the surrounding still air, it's not the fuel burning inside the engine.

Do you mind to share the akrapovic exhaust type your mate are using? Some of the tracers riders had the akra pops out, but that one slip underneat which looks slick to me. He took out the muffler hence the rumbling sound. Does he also perform engine tuning when upgrading the exhaust?

Nice review there, personally I have stopped using loud exhaust as I find it very tiresome on a tour. Also on other bikes on tour it does my head in. Cool as f for a short period but terrible if you ride far, in tunnels or in mountains.

I'm torn between tiger 800 XTR and the Tracer... HELP!!!?? Tracer looks more sporty / contemporary, however the Triumph comes across as a more refined engine... Correct? Also, I think the Tiger may be better for pillion and long rides whereas the Tracer better in urban environment... Opinions, anyone? Thanks.

+ralbright I got the case from eBay for iphone 6 plus and it was about £10. Not waterproof but should survive a shower or two.

No finance. Part exchanged my last bike and paid with some savings. You should get a good deal for £8k.
