I recently bought the 485. It's absolutely fantastic receiver, the sound, the effortless control with my phone/tablet , the connectivity to net radio, and local dlna (Using serviio) is just great. Long-term yamaha guy and this exceeded my expectations (By a lot).

Bought a 685 a few weeks ago and it’s absolutely amazing! I haven’t used a home receiver in years and after deciding I wanted to install speakers in my backyard, I decided to pick up the 685 due to the 2nd zone option. Feature is incredible which allows me to play music outside while I have cable on inside. Receiver also has AirPlay, Bluetooth and I updated my receiver for the first time which was pretty cool! All around a great purchase!

I have a similar setup (outdoor speakers) with an older Yamaha Rcvr (HTR 5960). I would like to be able to control that second zone (outdoor spkr) fully with an iPhone. Can you expand on how the zone control works and is it also possible to power the Rcvr on/off with smartphone as well?

@@davidc1590 Little late to on getting a response out but let me answer you question. Yes, you can control the RX-V685 through your smartphone. You'll need to connect your receiver to your home network by ethernet or wifi. The receiver does have wifi built in as well as bluetooth. After that, download the "AV CONTROLLER" from the app store and you're good to go. You can control both zones independently through the app. For example, turn each zone on/off and can choose which source each zone is outputting. So, you could have Airplay music going to your outside speakers and keep the football game going inside. I've had the receiver for about a year and I still love it. It was a much needed upgrade for my family room entertainment setup! Yamaha has a detailed comparison chart of all their receivers on their website which helped me decide which receiver to go with. Hope this helps!

@@daynor_5374 Hi! My house was pre-wired for patio speakers when it was built. So, I had two gang boxes outside with speaker wire inside them that then ran to my entertainment setup in my family room. Therefore I did directly wire to zone-2 on the back of the receiver. The receiver does have bluetooth which can work both ways. It also has MusicCast built in. I have not used MusicCast myself but from what I understand that would allow you to wirelessly send audio to speakers in another zone. Don't quote me though, please verify that if you are still looking to make a purchase.

You should had included RX-V585 in your video, which is cheaper than 685 and has Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.

Is the sound quality identical given they use the same DACs and process audio in the same way? Another difference between them is the 485 is not built to handle 4 Ohm speakers whereas the 685 is (front L & R). I recently upgraded to Monitor Audio Silver speakers and the fronts are 4 Ohm (centre and rears are 6 ohm interestingly). I am using the 485 and am a tad nervous about the amp not being able to handle them. But as I don't drive the system too hard and the speakers have good sensitivity I shouldn't run into any problems. The Australian version of the 485 is 6 ohm and the impedance can not be changed in the advanced settings.

I have RX V-375 pretty much same amp like but 485 older model. Had just 2 speakers Dali zensor 1... Audio sound quality and value for money was really good. I recently upgraded to Dali 3 fronts dali center.. and my old 1s at the back with Norstone 3 stands with acoustic foam good placement etc etc. Result: Even if AVR can drive them, I need a new AVR now because real watt dropped from 70w 2 ch driven to something like 20-25 5ch driven. Even few watt can be really loud and shake the house. But more watt doesn't necessary needed for more power, but for more quality for sound even at low levels. If you plan to hook more than 2 proper speakers, true watts go really low with the 585 and under.. 685 is a massive step up! (5ch driven haves 100W at 6ohm per channel) plus you can hook stereo amp with inputs that bypass volume control for the fronts!!! My advice is: a) if 2 speakers go for stereo receiver (with or without a sub output depending yr needs). Sound audio money/performance wise vs AVR is miles away. b) if you need more than 2 speakers 685 and above.. for marantz 5012 and above, for denon 2400 and above. Never forget a good combo of speakers-amp makes the real difference with room acoustics, placement, size, etc in the mix :D c)if you have those satellites with sub 5.1 packages I only recommend budget AVRs. ps. Yamaha entry level advantage series doesn't offer much sound wise for the money compared to 685, better quality materials in short and some of them more preouts. You have to go RX-A1080 and above for high end.

the feature that stood out the most was the acrylic display full of scratches....well done Yamaha, well done.
@jdoyle48112 жыл бұрын
First off this video was created by ABT electronics not Yamaha. Those scratches may just be a grease smudges as these receivers did not just come out of the box. Also this is all you got out of this video, what a hater

Nice video, thanks. I have a yamaha rx v685 a few months ago and it has worked well. However, since yesterday the bluetooth doesn't work. When I select this function, the bluetooth symbol does not appear, and the worst thing is that the bluetooth cannot be recognized on my devices (tv, cell phone, among others). I don't know what is happening. The antennas are good, it seems. I cannot connect the music cast either. Do you know how i cant reactive the bluetooth function? Thanks for your support

Cool video 😊 Q. Does the 685 have memory outputs for speakers for each individual input? For example - can one select Phono and setup output volumes just for thus input, then go to AppleTV Atmos and choose a diffent set of levels and speakers?

If you want to connect up to 2 speakers you can go with stereo receiver too.. better quality less money +phono input even on high end AVR sux compared to stereo ones :D eg: Yamaha A-S501, Marantz PM6006 etc I also suggest to google this: "How to combine stereo and surround sound in one AV system" , it's a awesome article from whathifi :)

Rx v683 which I bought is a disaster. Poor sound quality and low power. Poor Yapao settings makes your 2000 $ speakers sound horrible. Strange now I can see they have Monitor output as well as two HDMI out incase hdmi fails your avr does not turn into a box. Hope they improved sound quality. But still now days companies just build cheap products to sell at low cost. Don't care about sound quality or robustness. "Will never buy Yamaha or any ::Japanese:: music system again"

Sure the hardware is good but not so the software to run it. I have had the Yamaha Musiccast system for almost a year and it's buggy and not very intuitive. Also, they don't offer Google Play Music nor KZbin Music as a streaming service. This is insane. One of the most widely used music services in the world and it isn't included in the app. I'm a huge fan of all Yamaha products (from motorcycles, to instruments and audio) however, I am really disappointed in Musiccast.
