What excites me is his point at 2:05. The keys absorb moisture. I can now rest my coffee on a keyboard without bothering about spills. I am buying this..lol It sounds awesome

Have owned the mx61 for at least 4 years. Great board.... I stated 3 years ago that Yamaha needs to expand to a mx88. Its here. Wowwwww. Had been focusing on a cp-4 , but now that's on hold.

The split/layer function looks very easy. However, is it possible to create more than 2 voice layers/splits and if so, is it then possible to save those for live performance? I've seen a number of videos on the MX88 but none address this issue! 😉

I think you should clarify that the action is Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) and not the GH action, as there is a significant difference in the touch. GHS keyboards have always felt a little lighter and have a little more bounce than GH keyboards. GH keyboards feel heavier and a bit sluggish especially on the left side if you are coming from a lighter keyboard. I found that spending a few hours sitting at either action will eventually cause any awkwardness in the feel to disappear, and you'll come to really enjoy either action as you get used to it. Just thought I'd bring it up since Blake said Graded Hammer in the video and I was surprised to see GHS in the marketing materials.
@lmw6996
@lmw6996 7 жыл бұрын
Its not just this video that Yamaha tries to confuse new customers. Even when you click the specs, it does not mention GHS and you can only find it under features description. Anything that comes out of the Tianjin plant in China is at best a GHS , it seems they don't trust the Chinese. MOXF8, DGX6XX series, P115, P45..the list goes on. When all the competition has upped the ante with heavier more piano like keyboard actions for a lower price, Yamaha continues to offer just GHS at this price level. Starting from P255, which is assembled in Japan, you do get the superior GH Action.

I think this was meant to cover all budget ranges. Not everyone could afford a Motif, Montage, Tyros or Even the MO. I for 1 am thankful for the MO because I could never afford the Motif. The MX88 is for those who can't afford the MO.

What's the difference between this one (MX88) and the MOX8 in terms of sound engine? I mean, does the MX88 sounds better?
@calebrabion4786
@calebrabion4786 6 жыл бұрын
Juan Lessey The MOX has more features and is built a little better. I believe there isn't much difference in sounds. I will say that I have the MX88 and the keybed is very weak. I've had it 4 months and already have to send it in for repair.

I have been a Yamaha fan since the 80s and we already owned a DX 7, a DX 11 and a Clavinova "in the old days", but, sorry, this presentation does not convine me, and I have to say that in this price range I think I'd rather choose the Roland Juno DS 88 instead. By the way: When it comes to colaboration with smartphones and tablets, why are there always just apps for iOS, never for Android?
@paulcassar

Tom Brooks, I just have to agree with you about the sheer lack of support for Android. Is Google not providing enough motivation or collaboration perhaps...or is Apple paying Yamaha for such integration?

I'd love to know also. The manual only lists a few DAWs, and I'm guess the AI Knob only works with Cubase, but in the video it sounds like the device will work with any DAW. Some clarity on this would be helpful for potential buyers. Is it all just normal MIDI messages like any sane midi controller? Does the AI Knob simulate a mouse wheel movement, making it useful in other daws?

People are missing the actual point in this keyboard. Its not if its a better Piano or synth than product x, y or z. Yes its a cut down motif engine. its not a motif to compete with other sample or synth workstations, nor is it a top of the line Piano to compete with Roland RD-800. And its again a personal opinion if RD800 is that great. Personly I'd choose a Yamaha Piano over a Roland any day, but thats again .. just my opinion. It's a workstation with some build in sounds from the motif, that integrates with Yamaha's Steinberg Cubase line of programs/apps with direct control of parameters in cubase. Thats the whole idea. Yamaha is like other brands acknowledging that more people move away from expensive hardware workstations and using software synths instead. Is it the perfect Cubase controller? ... propably not. I'd also prefered some more specific knobs and controls instead of just 4 pots and some shared buttons with the local instr. selections

Nice! Wish this would have been out before I spent 25 hundred on the Roland RD 800. Don't get me wrong it's a great piano but very limited and only sounds good when run in stereo. I'm sure the MX is a lot less expensive. I guess the good point is that RD's are known to last forever.
@ian757
@ian757 7 жыл бұрын
Greg Uselman The RD800 has a vastly superior Key action which is a major point for any 88 key keyboard. The advantage of the Yamahas are their amazing 'performances' combinations which are truly inspiring. However, I own an RD700SX and if you know how to use all its features it's an amazing keyboard. The 800 is obviously even better. The 800's piano will be way better than the MX88's and the instant control with those sliders is a huge advantage over the Yammy. Build quality of the MX series is very low and plasticky. Not in the same class as an RD but I should think the value for money will be very good. The Casio Privia PX-5 is about the best value you can get in my opinion. Hope that is useful.

No its not. In fact even the top Claninova does not use the real hammer. Only Yamaha Hybrid NU1 or N series use a real hammer action. The MX88 uses the GHS which is graded heavier from left to light on the right. However GHS is the least realistic of all the Yamaha action types available.

savio sarwar yes exactly the same as DGX630/640/650/660 and P45,p85,p95,P115.... the list goes on. Any weighted keyboard from Yamaha China is GHS. Even when u pay quite a mid price for the MOXF8 Synth Workstation, u still get only the basic GHS. Is Yamaha getting too big to be able to respond quick enough to its competitors?

Pretty simple, many people use this type of keyboard as a controller for their studio to play all kinds of parts, including piano. Also, pianists would prefer to have a weighted action 88 note keyboard. If you don't need or want 88 weighted keys, then that's why they also make a 61 key synth action version of this synth.

I really don't see why Yamaha has made the 88keys version of the MX and the sounds are still NOT AS good as the Motif itself. Also faders would be great in the MX series, Yamaha!!!
@ian757
@ian757 7 жыл бұрын
Anthony Julius Yamaha already does a version with the faders. It's called the Motif! Those faders are expensive to make and install so you only get them on the top end boards
@anthony-julius
@anthony-julius 7 жыл бұрын
Jackofalltrades How expensive is it to make and instal faders Jack Of All Trades? Do you work for Yamaha? I need to know if I should even bother responding to your earlier message. There are simple ways they could make the MX series A LOT better without having to spending too much. I'll happily share my ideas with Yamaha if they want. MX series is great. I don't see the point of the 88key version especially since they haven't changed much from their pre-released 61 and 49 versions. You need third party programs to come close to properly program these machines...I can't help but thing "mediocre" for Yamaha. #ILoveYamaha btw hence me wanting them to wake up. :)

Yamaha MX49/MX61: they based on the soundset of the Motif XS. It features the same voices as the XS, although with less wave ROM (166MB vs. the XS's 355MB). They left out 2 power acoustic snare drum kits, 1 power guitar/bass FX drum kit, and about 40 or so power guitar/bass voices.

Helsinki Oslo the montage sound engine is based off both the motif and the evan older yamaha Dx series look it up for your self. These new keyboards you see arent really new they just add a few new features then but take from the old thats how it has always been. I am a professional keyboardist and im telling you I prefer any motif from the es to the xf over the montage any day because I dont want to pay 4000 dollars for a super knob because thats what you are paying for. The statement you made was stupid because first of all you don't know how to operate a motif let alone a montage because if you did know how to operate one in its entirety you wouldn't say that. look at most professional keyboard players on tv or KZbin you will more than likely see them with a motif XF 8 not a montage. Actually I have never seen any big pros use the montage. look man stop dick ridding and being a bandwagener and get your skills up as a musician because if you sound like ass on a casio you'll sound like ass on a montage . look man most pros don't relly mostly on software for sounds and performances like mainstage; garageband logic and Native instrument. These software programs cost no more than 400 bucks and they give you qaulity sounds for live gigs or studio use. That's why nobody uses the montage. The yamaha mx series is a good board its engine is based of the motif which is one of yamahas best keyboard series they have ever made.And the mx is cost friendly . You take this board and get you some daw and it will be just as good as the montage.
