Very good choice. If you ad the yamaha analogue cards, you don't get op amp access. Op amp access was dropped on the pm5. And pm7. It's really important to have a pre amp, analogue. Not a virtual input. VIDEO OF THE YEAR. be careful on the difference between clipping and saturation. Fantastic op amps on o2r. People thought this was a joke. It can actually done without software. Presonus or focus right. An O2 will give you 24 analogue in. 16 outs if set up.

Nice video! I have the Yamaha O2R gathering dust haha. It has 3 Adat cards, so 24 channels of Digital I/O. Yes, the RME Digiface usb would probably be the best and cleanest looking solution to connect this mixer (with the ADAT card options) to a computer. From what I understand, the RME does not have built in conversion (except for headphones), so it would function more like a digital patch bay, with the Yamaha O2R mixer doing the conversion, at 20bit or 24bit depending on the setup. I would like to get the RME Digiface USB, but they always seem to be out of stock or there was a waiting list whenever I wanted to buy one. The RME digiface usb is also a handy little unit because it has the standard USB connection. This means that if your computer only has usb connection, you should still be able to use some old firewire or thunderbolt interfaces on a modern usb only computer (as long as the audio interface has ADAT inputs and outputs and can function in stand alone mode I'd imagine) There is also the Motu LP32 which is strictly a ADAT only interface and has a nice LED display. It has 32 channels of ADAT with built in 24bit conversion, and has been around for a while now. New to the market is the Audient EVO 16 usb interface. It is almost the best of both worlds with 16 ADAT and 8 Analogue I/O for a total of 24 inputs and outputs at still at a very good price.

I'm considering getting one of these I've been offered for next to nothing. I'd like to run my synths and samplers through it into my DAW Logic 8 which I'm still using this way I can get more MIDI instruments recorded at the same time as I only have a two channel Apogee audio interface for my DAW. I see lots of negative comments about it but remember that LTJ Bukem used one on most of his releases so they can't be that bad?

Hello! Is it possible to use one adat card (8 in ) and the analog input channels 9-16 simultaneously to have 16 tape playback channels for mixdown? The interface witch is connected to the pc has one adat out and 8 analog out. Regards Peter

Hello ,I have never used coax kabels.I have had an m-audio fast track pro,and I had used jack 6.3 mm kabels to connect my o2r to the m-audio interface,and that was connected to the computer with usb.Kind regards and succes, Marc

Hi marc quick question how do you make active the Insert input with the ADAT (digital) input signal on same channel strip, Insert inputs only Seems to work with Mic/Line (analog) inputs but not combined with ADAT (digital) input signals on same channel strip. I hope i make sense to you. Reason is i want to connect my Compressor via Insert input with the ADAT signal together on same channel strip, i would asume this would be Digital/Analog mixing combine correct? Hi Paul,I no longer have the O2r mixers.Now I have a DM 2000.But i have inserts going trough adat i.o. , the effect out is going to to the input of a behringer adat ultragain pro 8.and then trough optical cable to my yamaha.I use the preamp and gain knobs of the adat ,then I can rout it to any channel I want.I remember that channel 1 to 8 on the O2r has an insert jack on the back.I hope this will help,kind regards Marc

@@paltrock. Hi marc, not sure if i understand you correctly but yes you are correct marc the yamaha02r has 8 insert inputs. I can not get my device (compressor) to work via insert input with the ADAT input channel, do you remember how this can be done? Many thanks marc

@@pauldiaz4273 Hi Paul,if you use the inserts on the channel,you need a split cable,one jack on one end ,plugged in the O2r,and two jacks on the other end,going in your compressor.I have used aux 1 to 6 on the yamaha O2r to connect compressors etc.and the returns on channel 21 to 24.I have never used adat.I'm using it now on the Yamaha DM 2000 throug an interface.(ultragain pro 8 behringer )then route it on the yamaha.

@@paltrockyes marc the cable is called TSR (tip sleeve ring) cable it is like a Y cable. I have that connected already my problem is my yamaha 02r does not reconize the Insert input with ADAT input. It recognizes Insert input with only Mic/Line inputs on channel strip. Is there a setting on Yamaha 02r i have to set to recognize ADAT and Insert inputs on same channel strip?

For the clicks from the Behringer I’m sure you’ve done this but, have you checked the buffer size of the interface? I’m also curious, I’d try the 02R for DAW fader control and other things, but you say it’s difficult right? Compared to a smaller interface? Fantastic information especially since it’s updated to the latest DAW and OS!

I have tried buffer size, master slave and so on,but I couldn't solve the problem.My other interfaces dont have this problem,so it is solved anyway.I think you can control pro tools with the O2R, I have only Cubase.It's not compatible with the O2R ,but I use midi cotrollers,BCF 2000 ,korg nano control, and Icon control, It works perfect in Cubase.Nice to here from you again.Kind regards Marc

I have an O2R with one optical ADAT card. I was originally going to connect it to my M-Audio FireWire 410. I'm hoping it will connect with another a USB interface card with an optical input. I'm just not sure if it will transmit 8 channels.

​@@paltrock Thanks for replying. Unfortunately my O2R gave up on me a couple weeks ago with a series of "CPU fault" errors. I tried resetting the cards and factory rebooting to no avail. The whole system was getting pretty tired so I went out and bought a used A&H ZED-24. Of course it doesn't have the digital capabilities (only a stereo 16 bit usb output) but it is a fairly nice analogy console and I already have a decent DAC.

Connaissez-vous une option pour O2R en connection FireWire je souhaite connecter via mLan mon Yamaha motif xs en mlan afin d'exploiter les 16,canaux. Option A que j'ai, serait de passer par ma périphérique audio( Steinberg-Yamaha Mr816) elle même, connectée au pc en firewire, le synthé connecté à elle en firewire et "le tout" ressort sur sa sortie en Adat vers la 2r, mais de cette façon je perds 8 sorties n'ayant qu'une sortie Adat. Option B, serait donc que la 2r m'offre une autre possibilité autre ?

Hi there,the O2r has 4 slots,so you can insert 4 adat cards ,or optical cards,what ever you want.With two adat cards you will have 16 channels in out optical.I use one optical and one analog card.{Nice music you have on your account)Kind regards Marc Stam

@@paltrock Merci pour la musique et la réponse. Mon problème, c'est que ma carte audio n'a qu'une seule entrée et sortie adat. Je pourrais toujours exploiter les 8 canaux restent en analogique, puisque je peux déjà envoyer les 16 canaux vers dans le pc en firewire . Mon but, dans l'idéal, serait d'éviter autant que possible jusqu'à l'entrée dans mon 'ampli, de convertir le signal "N/A/N/A" si je peux l'éviter. Ps. Je n'ai pas encore la O2r que je devrai bientôt l'acquérir. Bien à vous Jérôme.

That was pain to watch. If you can use ADAT, why for god sake would you go analog? Especially considering the poor quality of the 02r converters. And you didn’t even use symmetrical connections as your cables only have two contacts (TS instead of TRS). 😰
