Originally came with NiCd but later replaced with 18650 lithium ion batteries

Could you give me some explanation about the circuit of the Battery box because I got the bycicle with no battery pack. I found out that there are four connector poles on the battery base but only three poles are connected. However ,I am not sure how poles connect to battery. Thank you in advance.
