Hey Woody, Yamaha should be glad to have you representing this keyboard. You hit a sweet spot of instruction that can inspire prospective buyers. Most demo guys want to do a "Jordan Rudess" style wow performance. While that sounds great, your instruction has a way of making the keyboard accessible to a wide range of playing ability. Well done. Cheers, Cliff

when often what they represent is alot of the best of what the manufacturer generally has to offer in one package and you dont have to use everything, but its always good to have it there, they offer huge flexibility, they generally have the best value in terms of keybed etc too in the price bracket, :) (i've freelance style created/programmed for yamaha in the dim and distant past but theres no bias here lol )

@@winddealer1 completely agree buddy, tho i will just say tyros 4 is nowhere near that age (half) :) even the original tyros (1) isnt even quite 20yrs old yet, tyros 2 just came out of prototype stages in early 2005 etc etc bud, another thing to add is if you say have a tyros 2 (first to have super articulation, went to usb etc) hardly any owner and i mean maybe 2 or 3% have ever gotten near the full capabilities of the machine, to the uninitiated i can understand workflow can be daunting/slow but this truelly is a digital workstation and altho not the most user friendly, the sequencer is phenominal and if you piece together your own tracks from scratch there is no reason to critise preset accompnaments which are always going to be a compromise to a large extent, but put there purely as a convenient way to allow someone to sit at it and instantly make nice music. obviously Daws and plug ins,vst's give infinate possibility, and a midi controller and an interface dont need to cost much atall, but (A) its not an all in one unit (instrument) you can take anywhere to either perform live of play as part of a band in a pro studio (B) you are buying an actual instrument not just components that together make one, if you buy a controller and an interface and use a good spec computer (so now you have massive operating power and an all in one instrument obv compromised on that too) just for that purpose your near the cost of sx 900 even if a cheaper computer and thats before you buy any software whatsoever, so suddenly a £500 2nd hand tyros 2 is looking like a bargain (and you can also easilly sell a keyboard if your suddenly broke, or want to change/upgrade), also computers depreciate like a sinking stone and good luck getting anything back on a couple grand worth collection of software built up overtime lol), ive went on way too long as it is lol, guess im just trying to say its unfare to compare the two really as they are incomparable, but never underestimate the capabilities of these units like many do as they really have no idea what they are capable of in the right hands, and thats what it really comes down to regardless which you buy :)

Thanks Woody. Great video as usual. My immediate reaction is that you are focused more on taking the bare bones of a style and then extending and decorating it rather than using its full version to accompany a separate and fixed right hand melody as arrangers have traditionally been used. I think this is an interesting direction.

synthwave is the very reason i'm shopping for a new board. i've got a very dated and convoluted syth/rack/midi setup and looking for something simpler to do some 80's style arranging. debating between the lesser psr's and the sx700. leaning toward the pricier, more fluid choice, ofc. 😉 very helpful video.

Two questions - - (1) Does this keyboard come with a comprehensive PAPER manual? (2) Would this type of instrument be suitable for someone who can pick out single note melodies with the right hand, and do simple chords or triads with the left, and then have hours (or years) of fun just experimenting and using the machine to make up for lack of talent?
@IamtheKingsman5 жыл бұрын
All of my other Yamaha keyboards had such manuals so I don't think this should be any different. If you're pretty good at being able to pick out notes with your right hand, or do like I do with reading fake sheets, thus should be an ideal machine for you. Yamaha has a lot of built in helps in the PSR Sxxx series to help the budding to the most advanced musician and Woody is very good about corresponding with us to help us get the most out of these wonderful medicines.

2) yes it does come with a comprehensive manual, 2) perfect for someone with those skills, but unfortunately the performance will sound poor in lack of talent situations :)

Does a keyboard exist where the pre-recorded beats actually sound good? Even on this keyboard which isn't cheap, the pre-recorded beats/melodies sound like they're from a toy and not something off a song you'd normally hear. I'm not sure if it's the arrangement of the beats/melodies or simply the samples/sounds used or a bit of both but the songs have that "it came with my keyboard" type of sound and therefore sounds toyish and cringy rather than like a real sound.
