I love how those old R1s used to stutter when they shifted. They sounded so angry. I'm also of the unpopular opinion that the normal inline-4 2008-prior sounds better than the crossplane engine. The R1s of 2007 and 2008 (maybe 2005 and/or 2006 as well; I can't remember) were also the best-looking of them all with that iconic wasp-like design. Though objectively speaking, the current R1s are more capable machines performance-wise, I wish this corresponded with the beauty of the 2008, especially the R1 Raven. Still one of the most beautiful bikes to this day.

no point taking it to the rev limiter as your going beyond peak power and torque. better to shift early and ride the wave of power (plus it's kinder to the motor :-P )

You are thinking of the pre 20014 models. I have an 08, my second one, and max power comes in around 12200-12400. There is a nice over rev through 13k, but no point going beyond that. Red line is just under 14k. I have both bikes tuned and dyno`d and have the charts.

Meant to say pre 2004 models had the lower red lines. Different engine for the 1998-03 models. Long stroke, more torque in the lower revs but less up top. A great engine for the real world streets.

maybe because its a clutch so its there for a reason? Not to mention its straightline riding so theres no need to shift at redline like a mongoloid. Reaches peak torque at 9k roughly and peak HP at roughly 12k so running to redline is just wasting power. Its cool though
