Good review Matt, hats off to Yamaha for keeping mid size sports bikes alive and the CP2 is a very capable engine. Being an old git I do recall the original R7 which was a peach and it’s difficult for me to see this variant in the same light. Should they drop the CP3 engine into this with a few upgrades here and there it would be awesome.

Manufacturers need to keep it going otherwise there will be no knew riders and just us oldies cutting around on our adventure bikes 😁. They need to do something about this engine because it just isn’t enough right now. What that answer looks like I just don’t know.

I got a 60th anniversary edition after passing my test. Coming from a grom it feels pretty fast for me lol

No there isn't, it's a shame, we need young blood in the sport to keep it going.

@@DSR1YTits a minefield these days though tbh.the tests are a pain imo,and you have to be really motivated to pass it. bikes are not cheap either when you consider what kind of car you can buy for bike money.admittedly not new,but still enough to to turn a potential bikers head.

Hiya, I hope you are both enjoying the warmer weather. I’m test riding one of these this week. Which did you like better, the R7 or Kawasaki ZX-4 and why ?

Hay David, if I was looking at these then my money would be on the ninja. I enjoyed riding the ninja a lot more than the R7. R7 felt quite lacking. But I didn’t expect much from the ninja and that probably lead me to enjoying it more. 🤙

@@DSR1YT Many thanks. I test rode the MT07 and the R7 today. The MT07 was very powerful but to my suprise i loved the R7 probably more than any bike i had ridden.. apart from the red CBR650 lol. So i put a deposit down for an R7 in blue. It just goes to show that until you ride a bike and see it first hand, its all the opinion of others which are valid to them. Makes bikes fun.

@davidhill8163 and that’s why I always recommend people test riding bikes. Everyone views a bike differently. Well I’m glad you managed to get out on it and you’ve put a deposit down. Did you go through Bransons again? Is the R7 a second bike or will it replace the Honda?

@@DSR1YT No I went To Crescent Yamaha in Verwood. Ill always keep the Honda 650R. I want to be cremated on it and come back as Ghost Rider as per the film lol. Have you been to Bransons lately ? I was talking to the guy with the Gentlemans mouchtash and he posed for a photo for me.. giving it a wax !

Great review. I have the anniversary colours. How does this compare to the Honda CBR 650 R to ride ?

Hay David, glad you liked the review 😀. Unfortunately I (Matt) took the out and Zoe took the cbr out so I wouldn’t be able to give you a fair comparison, sorry 🤙
